Badger5 is leaking from numerous crack around its plastic casing. Totally surprised by this, assumed casing would be strong enough to withstand torque. It is not.

The old disposal was the same model. I am not sure how old it was but it started leaking from underneath and needed replaced. I chose this one because it was easy to install due to the fact it is the same size/dimensions and the price was lower than a lot of the other choices out there. If you are replacing one it literally only takes 15 minutes to install and that includes set up and clean up.

This unit as well as the line of Badger Products is easy to replace . Five plus years or duty and mostly trouble free. The reason it was replaced was due to leakage the housing mounts for the motor unit rusted through the screws that were used causing it to leak, Therefore it was to be replaced. The mount system was once installed quickly allowed it to be taken out and the new unit was in in five minutes.

I Purchased this unit as a replacement for failed Badger 5. It was easy to install and works quietly. It met all expectations.

Installing this unit is fairly straightforward. My installation didn't require the angled pipe as I used the existing straight pipe. This disposal is little on the heavy side to install under the sink trying to lift it one handed and then attempting to connect the three locking tabs. I placed a bucket under the disposal to support it and then managed to connect the three locking tabs after some "manhandling" of it for a few minutes. Wasn't the easiest thing to do, but finally got it in the correct position and hammered the locking ring in place. The wiring on this is simple and is just a matter of removing the wires from the old unit and connecting it to the new unit. I used the existing locking tab/drain from the old unit as it was the same as the new one. Didn't see any reason to replace it as it was the same design as the new one. Really no negatives about this unit other than a little difficult to lift and install, but other than that it it a great product. Works great and is fairly quiet after a few weeks in operation now.. Now I have just have to keep my mother in law from putting potato peelings into it as she did in the old unit! They showed up in the downstairs shower stall!

Hungry little bugger. Will eat anything I feed it. Of course, I haven't fed it the guts of a cantaloupe or the bones from a steak. The plumber got it installed easily and said it was a good product, same for the electrician. Quick delivery and good price from Home Depot.

Best priced product - better than anything found in the brick and mortars Home Depot. Its working like charm.

Same mounting system as different model I had previously, so I left old sink ring in place. 1/2 HP a little less than my previous, but still adequate. Works fine, no issues.

It was upgraded from Badger 1 to Badger 5. It works smoothly. In installation, I took about 2 hours because I took a while to figure out a few steps to disassemble an old one. The last step to mount the min body to the sink was needed to have another hand to support.

I have never done any plumbing work or anything like that. But I was determined to replace our disposal myself. The directions were very simple to follow. I was able to do this with tools I already had at the house. It only took me about 40 minutes. If you have experience, it probably would only take 15 or 20 minutes. But I had to read the directions step-by-step. It was not hard at all!

We had this installed with a kitchen remodel four years ago. Just two of us live hear now, so it doesn't get heavy use. The last year we have had plumbers out three time to clear the line that the kitchen feeds into. The last time I took a picture of the junk the plumber snagged from the line. You can see why the line closed up!

Our previous InSinkErator Badger 1 food waste disposer provided 14 years of daily use. After a distinguished career it finally retired. We chose to replace it with a new younger Badger 1 model. All of the connections were the same and made installation very easy. We are very pleased with the InSinkErator Badger 1 food waste disposer and highly recommend it.

With the help of my husband, I installed the Badge 5 1/2 HP to replace the old one of same model which has been used for the past I do not remember how many years. Online order from Home Depot was very easy and it arrived on time well packaged. We spent minimum amount of time in the installation as we purposely bought the same model for its durability and ease in installing it without having to alter the pipes and connections. It took a little more time in taking out the electrical wire from the old disposal and put it on the new one as it took some wriggling to successfully squeezing the wire into the tiny slot at the bottom of the new disposal. Also we did not follow the instructions by putting the gasket inside the drain outlet before we connect the pipe, instead we wrapped the gasket around the pipe, then insert it into the disposal drain hole, then screwed tight the metal plate, this way we did not have to cut short the pipe and had just enough room to fully insert the pipe into the drain hole. It worked, and no leakage.!! Attached picture shows our achievement in this project.

Purchased this garbage disposal to replace the the Badger 5 that broke. Easy online purchase, great price, was delivered to my house within a couple of days. Installation was about an hour with regular home tools. Works great!

I was replacing an existing exact model that was 8 yrs old so replacing was very easy & I knew the quality of the product

Was installed when house was built. Noticed corrosion in vertical crack lines around the exterior of the grind chamber. Some of the crack lines have started to leak. There are several thin vertical cracks every few inches. They start as small cracks then corrode and leave rust ridges eventually leaking through several of the cracks. Have applied silicone as temp fix but other cracks have now started leaking. The case appears to be aluminum casting but it must be steel based and very thin because if has cracked in several places and the rust builds up on a mound on the exterior of the crack then it starts to leak. I nearly purchased another of the same brand at the home depot store but checked online and saw many low reviews for this product. I found a waste king on the home depot website for $30.00 less ($54.99) regular price. The Waste King has a 2 year in home warranty and a LIFETIME corrosion warranty. I then checked to see if this one also had a corrosion warranty. No this product did not seem to have a corrosion warranty so I ordered the Waste King. See the attached photos for the cracks. I have removed the heavy rust from several of the crack so I could apply silicone to stop the leaks until I can get a replacement.

We bought the exact same model as was in the house when we moved in. The house is 12 years old, so I am assuming it lasted that long. The previous one was able to handle all our disposal needs.

We purchased this Badger 5 garbage disposal to relace a 10 year old one that started leaking. After just 5 months the new one started leaking at the mounting assembly. The mounting is rusted and the rust has also spread to the screws on the basic unit. It looks like it is 10 years old! I called Insinkerator and they told me that this is not covered by their warranty because they consider it to be improperly installed by our plumber. They did offer to send a new mounting assembly but it will take 5 -7 days to arrive. They told me they could send one of their plumbers but if they determine the assembly is not defective, then I am responsible for the costs of the parts and labor. So much for their warranty. I am sitting here waiting for our plumber to arrive. Buy a product that has fewer short term use failures.

InSinkerator service tech in Manila said the 2 major exterior cracks were from "normal wear and tear." Ridiculous. Wish I could give it ZERO stars...

I bought this disposal to replace my old Kenmore disposal that was no longer made. I ordered online and it was delivered within a wk by UPS. The box was smashed and had a couple of holes in it upon opening it the styrofoam padding was shattered and the small foam pellets were stuck everywhere due to static electricity ( lot of cleaning before able to install it ) the plastic drain pipe included with the disposal was busted into a dozen pieces and useless. Luckily the old one on the sink was usable. The Product was a great item at a good price, the packing and shipment of it left alot to be desired. Have had it installed for a month now and works great no leaks and pretty quiet for a disposal.I would reccomend it to anyone needing to replace their old disposal.

I purchased this to replace the exact same model that was installed back in 2007. The old one rusted through inside at the top and was leaking out the bottom of the motor housing. A stainless grind chamber would be nicer and not rust out but I figure 8 years was a pretty good run for a unit that cost under $100 to replace. We use it some almost every day. Never had a jam. Plenty powerful for our household. Citrus rinds tend to get stuck in there and just keep going around so I recommend not putting them in this disposal. I have never tried to grind up bones or hunks of meat in it so I can't speak to that. The unit is not super loud but certainly not whisper quiet. Installation was straightforward and the directions are good. There are quieter, more powerful and stainless steel units out there but I did not want to spend $300-$400 for these features. Note: An internet search of this unit will find no shortage of people who have experienced the same failure of the rusting through inside. The metal in there is galvanized and eventually will wear off and then rust through. You will need to decide if a less rust-prone unit is worth the extra expense. Anyone comfortable with basic tools can install this themselves. Just read the directions!

My disposal died.... so I searched online for the same brand since the previous version lasted approx 20 years(just don't find that anymore). I used the label from previous model to search and found it was cheapest on Home Depot's site along with quick and free shipping-Whoo Hooo!! Ordered and received within 2-3 days and installed within 30 minutes. Nowadays nothing last longer than just a few years, while not being any lower in price? We've become accustomed to appliances becoming consumables and are not thinking about where all these consumables' waste will wind up? Need to get back to making things that last! Thanks for making a product that provides an effective use over a long period of time. Thanks
