I bought this to replace the same brand & model that was leaking out the bottom of the disposal. I just swapped out the disposal unit, keeping the existing sink connection. The nice part about that was the bayonet style attachment - just push up and twist to lock it in. The only bad part was that I had ordered the version that does not come with a power cord, expecting to reuse the existing cord. (It looked like it just plugged in.) However I was unable to get that out of the old unit.

Good brand but I did not like this style.
It came with the rim on the disposer crooked and had a hard time locking it back in place, finally worked, next time probably buy different style

it broke in 1.5 years
After purchasing it on August 2, 2022, and today is February 3, 2024 just a year and a half later, the this version of incinerator is completely broken unable to be fixed. It makes a crazy noise. What appears to have happened is that the two blades Have come loose. This is nothing that the consumer can repair. Now, there appears to be a four year warranty, but who do you contact? There’s no contact information and it appears it would be easier just to purchase a new ine. Garbage disposals should last at least 10 years. I tried to upload a video to let you know how loud the sound is, but Home Depot does not appear ro provide this option.

Badger is very Smart: Lift and Latch Technology!
I was replacing an 11 year old Badger-1 since it stopped working. It had a one year warranty and it ran for 11 years, which is a great bonus. Since I purchased exactly the same item the installation was so easy; under 10 minutes. (I did not have to replace the old Sink Flange, I used the existing one).
I also saved some time and money since it came with the power cord assembled. I really do appreciate the "Lift and Latch" technology: it was so easy and I felt so good.

My other badger disposal leaked a long time ago. It was the cheapest one and only lasted 6 years. This one is made from stainless steel so I hope it lasts longer

Doesn't last
I see from past reviews of this product that it is expected to be changed every 5-6 years. So it's been over 10. Didn't expect it to be in this bad of shape. It came with the house and the house was built in 2009.

Hi, thanks for sharing your comments. While a disposer should provide many years of service, like any appliance, it will eventually need to be replaced once it is not performing as expected. The life of an InSinkErator® Disposer is entirely dependent upon service conditions, usage patterns, and local water quality. Should you need assistance, you can reach out to us via https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.

Made in America failed on me on this purchase
My 7yr old Badger 3 blew out and decided to replace it with an identical unit. Found one at the nearest Home Depot and installed it that night. Noticed the flange design was changed so it no longer can free spin and took more effort to mount and install. Once I finished wiring the Badger Disposal 3 unit and finished the installation, the unit won’t turn. I had to uninstall the disposal unit, put the old one back in and it fired up. Ended up buying another unit that worked. Made in USA failed.

Hello, Loui. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. We're sorry to hear that you had difficulty installing your new disposal. Our new Lift & Latch disposers have a stationary ring with a small notch to make installation easier. This small adjustment allows you to simply lift the disposer and make a slight turn to have the tabs latch over the ridges on the slide-up ramps instead of continually turning until the tabs lock. If there's anything else that we can do to further help you, feel free to contact us via https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.

Dependable for a long time
This item was installed in 30 minutes. Easy to do. Heay to lift into place to rotate and lock into the drain coller. Once connected was very easy. I am very happy the electrical cord was pre attached at the factory. My last Badger 5 lasted 26 years and only rusted out causing leaks in the body. That is a long time in service.

Badger 5
It took me less than 30 minutes to take the old ones off and put the new one. I liked for the fact it came with the power cord built in so it was a plug in as opposed to putting the wires together. Follow instructions and watch a YouTube if needed. Good luck

Exact replacement for 22+ yr old model (Badger 5)
Easy to install using online videos (YouTube & Insinkerator). Didn't even look at new instructions. Kept existing sink mount which made re-installing easy. Had to cut the discharge tube to proper length to fit my plumbing (used old pipe as template). But otherwise, a pretty simple DIY project. Was hoping new model might be quieter to operate but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Fairly Easy to Install
I’m a 25yr old female, and was able to replace my old disposal with this one, by myself. So, hopefully that shows it’s pretty simple to install. It was the exact same one I had prior - so it was kind of just plug and play. I did need to go buy a new electrical plug to attach to the new disposal, because it doesn’t come with one and the cord on my old one was impossible to take out and also just wanted a new cord. I also needed to buy a flexible discharge tube, because the tube it comes with is curved and I needed a straight one (the flexible one was perfect because I could adjust how long it needed to be).

Beware of this garbage disposal
After only 3 years, my disposal started leaking from the bottom. This was the 3rd Insinkerator disposal in 14 years so I decided to take this one apart before buying another. Insinkerator advertises the chopping area is galvanized, but once the galvanization wears off, the steel quickly rusts. This happen to mine so severely that it rusted a hole that allowed water to get into the motor compartment (see the blue circled area in the picture). No more "galvanized" and no more Insinkerator!

Hi SteveE, thanks for posting your review. We understand how unpleasant this experience must have been for you and we're sorry. Rust is something we generally consider normal wear and tear. The grinding components on our standard Badger Series are coated with corrosion resistant zinc and do not begin to discolor until this coating wears away. The amount of rust varies and is dependent on usage and what may have been put through the disposer. The water quality, use of aggressive cleaning solutions, or even grinding of acidic foods can speed up discoloration. We're always working hard to improve our products and we value your candid feedback.

Repalcement Product Disposal
I've utilized InSinkErator for over 25 years, primarily as a maintenance person in large and small apartment complexes. These products have met and passed the expectation of the aforementioned facilities and occupants served.
The recent purchased was replacement for 20 plus year old disposal which was InSinkErator, replacement was easily installed utilizing new connector hub. Additionally making connection to existing plumbing and electrical was also easy.
I would recommend this product to most home owners and the replacement model is very quit.

Rusting after 8 months
InSinkErator said, "This is not rust in the sense that it will compromise the structural integrity of the unit, it is more of a reddish colored thin film." Well, rust is rust, and this should not be happening after just 8 months of use.

Hi HDCustomer, thank you for sharing your feedback. The amount of rust or discoloration varies and is dependent on usage and what may have been put through the disposer. The water quality, use of aggressive cleaning solutions, or even grinding of acidic foods can speed up discoloration. Grinding components with brown discoloration or surface rust is normal and simply cosmetic. Rust will not degrade the performance of the disposer unless it is well outside of the disposer's lifespan. If you still have other concerns or questions, you can reach us at https://support.insinkerator.com/app/ask.

Rusts and Leaks
Very disappointed in this product, have had previous insikerator model which lasted many years. When the motor burned out, I purchased it again thinking the build quality would be the same, it's not. Only after 4 years of very light use started leaking from the bottom due to rust, even though the unit functions fine. Called customer service they gave be a coupon for 40% off of a new unit, no thank you. Switched over to Everbilt 1/2 horsepower with a 4 yr warranty and lifetime corrosion warranty for half the price.

Not a Quality Product
So our builder installed the badger 1-87 in our new house. 4 years later & it’s dead. Not a good quality product, I guess that’s why they only have a 1 year warranty on it.
