Hello, Loui. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. We're sorry to hear that you had difficulty installing your new disposal. Our new Lift & Latch disposers have a stationary ring with a small notch to make installation easier. This small adjustment allows you to simply lift the disposer and make a slight turn to have the tabs latch over the ridges on the slide-up ramps instead of continually turning until the tabs lock. The grinding components on our standard Badger Series are coated with corrosion resistant zinc and do not begin to discolor until this coating wears away. The amount of rust varies and is dependent on usage and what may have been put through the disposer. The water quality, use of aggressive cleaning solutions, or even grinding of acidic foods can speed up discoloration. Grinding components with brown discoloration or surface rust is normal and simply cosmetic. Rust will not degrade the performance of the disposer unless it is well outside of the disposer's lifespan.
