Nice replacement for my old disposal that failed. Badger 5 series recommended by a neighbor, a plumber.

My original Badger 1 Model 1-81A lasted 17-1/2 years and started leaking. Hoping that I have the same luck again I ordered a new one from Home Depot as this item was not stocked. The model number that I received was slightly different 1-87 and the biggest difference was in the drain discharge area. The original item had a 1.5 inch threaded connection, whereas this item has a "tailpipe" that includes a rubber gasket and a flanged elbow. The only problem is that my original installation included a straight beveled pipe instead at one end and used a collar to secure it to the garbage disposal. It took a few minutes to think about a solution and to think of the proper name for the pipe that I was thinking about (i.e. a straight pipe that was flanged on one end). I later verified that the instructions stated that one could be used. Too bad the manufacture did not think to include one. I don't understand why the switch was made to a flange given that the discharge pipe would now have to bolt to the tailpipe and one screw would be hidden by the pipe. To me, a beveled pipe and a threaded connection were much easier to use. I was able to re-use the existing mount as it was very clean and in good shape. Its too early to tell if this one will last as long as the first one. One can only hope

Quiet and effective. Not bulky at all but still does the job. Tones of space under sink after installation. My contractor said this model is easy to install. Way way better than the old one left by previous home owner.

It is quiet for disposal but vibrates just a smidge — overall, an excellent value for the price.

The Badger fit perfectly under the sink, even with a water filter system.

If you'll check the serial number on the Emerson Unit I'm replacing, you'll see this one lasted 30± years - Certainly built to last . . .

Very fine product my first one lasted 15 years easy install was straight change out had to replace electrical cord the the unit came with it was to short grate product

Easy installation!

It works well until it cracks!!! My garbage disposal is 8 years old so that is at the end of a useful lifespan. However for the last year I’ve had to put a bucket under it because large cracks have developed at the top half of the casing making it leak gross crud. The motor is still strong and it works great other than this. I’m thinking the vibrations of running has caused the fractures but not sure. I’ve read on consumer reports that others have had the same issue so be aware. The company told me this is unusual but apparently it’s not. I’ve tried a leak stop spray and JB weld in the cracks but it still leaks. Time to replace.

Came in a couple days. No shipping charges was nice. Bought this model because it was an easy swap as it was an exact replacement.

My new home came with the Badger installed. How the Plummer who install it did ouch our the dishwasher drain plus completely. It later came completely off. It made such a load noise and I could find out what the problem was. For the longest time I couldn’t find out what it was. I had the disposal removed and shaken upside down and out came the plug. I think it runs fine now.

Replace it every 7 to 8 years before it breaks; don't have to remove flange (sink) - same model. Takes 10 minutes max.

The previous one, same model, last for years. Replacement was extremely easy and took just 20 minutes.

Easy to install with no issues, the old Badger lasted 20 years

Purchased Badger 5 Model 5-84 3.5 years ago for my kitchen remodel. It has now cracked down the side, corroded from inside out, and leaking water in my new cabinets. Picture attached. Must be replaced.

Powerful, low noise disposal and even for a not-so-handy man it was a snap to install.

It took 20 years of complaining about picking the crap out of the sink, to finally get the best Christmas gift ever! Now I actually enjoy doing the dishes. It's still a little exciting to flip a switch just to hear that grinding sound.

This disposer is only good if you are replacing a similar sized unit. This unit would not line up with the same plumbing as the old unit. I had to troll online to find out how I could make up the difference of about 1 inch, the distance between the unit and the pipe.

Great product! Just follow the instructions and your good to go! I install it for under 30 minutes! Totally recommend to my families and friends!

Intalled easily and works great!

I hesitantly purchased this to replace the Badger 5 which died within 5 months, so I was skeptical about getting another Badger. On the plus side, the switch out was extremely easy as all I have to do was disconnect the old and connect the new. Took about 15 minutes. This one better last longer though!

Easily installed. The plumber was in my home for a total of 10 minutes and installation was complete. I have had it for about 2 weeks now and it's working great. One thing that stands out about this product is it''s low noise when in use. You don't hear the metal clicking sound when it is running as seen in previous brands I have used. And it is pretty cheap, way cheaper than I anticipated.

Works like that last one I replaced it with. It lasted 17 years. Although not a high priced product it did the job for more that the expected lifespan.
