Leaks like the others say
I installed 5 fittings in a house water filter closet and every single one leaks. The machined surfaces are not smooth enough to seal no matter how tight or how much teflon tape or paste or combination thereof is tried. These are just poor quality. Rather than tear the whole filter plumbing system out and starting over I am resorting to a last ditch attempt using a nylon washer with some teflon paste. I am certain I will never use these type of unions ever again.

Has faulty machining. I made a gasket from 20 mil vinyl
C633W leaks due to tool chatter when cutting the conical sealing surface. I made a gasket from 20 mil vinyl pipe wrap tape. You need a 5/8" punch from the common 6 piece Chinese punch set. Place the conical sealing surface on the pipe tape sticky side up. Tap the 5/8" punch on a wood block to cut a center hole. With a carton cutter or razor blade cut off the edge, making a 8 or 10 sided gasket that just fits inside the sealing nut. Still mickey mouse.

      DRIPS
Wish I would have read the reviews prior to purchasing these. After installing both leaked. I was able to stop one with teflon tape and pipe dope. The second one I can't get to stop dribbling and will have to be replaced. I've tried everything including over torqueing. A $24.87 fitting just turned into $400... DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND AVOID THESE UNIONS AT ALL COSTS.

Concerned about all the negative reviews
Worked great! I was concerned with the reviews about leaks. While at the store I found a couple with blemishes where the sealing surfaces meet. So, I purchased a unit which was smooth/unblemished. No leaks!

Agreed with most others comments, the machining and seat geometry are not the best. First attempt at pressuring the system revealed a very minor drip from it. Tightened it some more with big wrenches and it held fine.

          It worked for me...
I banged up the seating surfaces during the install and had to lap it with steel wool to get the seating surfaces to mate... With a little care and torque the leaking eventually stopped making for a perfect fit...

Super easy install, leaks from fitting.
Had to repair a pipe that had a slow flow of water to it only option was to install this or a sharkbite Because I was going to be soldering in the rest of the pipes went with this it has a very very small leak from the threaded and nut meet. I am now going to need to depressurize a whole system just to loosen it and try adding pipe dope to help seal it.

            The perfect leak
I bought four, should’ve read the reviews, and for leaked. The machining on these parts were not good. My recommendation is to buy USA

Cheap union, not heavy duty enough for the price. Items was returned and repurchased a higher quality one at a different hardware store for the price.

              POOR Quality
I can't believe something perfected so long ago has declined to such a state as to render it useless. Could not get it to stop leaking. No rough edges that I could note, but it does not seal (alignment of pipe is good - union is of poor quality). Nibco should be ashamed to put their name on this. Find an alternative.

I used this to replace half of one I installed 30 years ago. I held my breath that the design of the new one might have changed and wouldn't match the old one. It matched! Perfect fit. No leakage. I'm happy.

Leaked no matter how tight I got it. Replaced it with another and it had the same problem. Ended up using a Brass Ferrule type fitting. These are JUNK .

                Another leaking union
As others have stated, I wish I had opened the package to inspect in the store. After sweating in place it was leaking, looking closely at the female/seat side of the union there are raised lines from the casting process. Tried cleaning/polishing with emery cloth but was never able to get a fit that would sustain more than about 10 PSI of water pressure. Eventually had to remove and replace with standard sleeve unions.

I bought 4 of these to use on copper air piping I built. It took quite a bit of tightening torque to get the union to seal at 175 psi. They are expensive for only 1/2-inch size. All of them soldered well though.
