Love it. Narrow, so easy to fit in a smaller spot. Doesn't require extra room for a crank. Goes in smoothly and easily, and the back and forth motion of the winder makes it go evenly on the reel, which was always a challenge before. You do need to watch it as sometimes the hose will try to kink while being wound up, or the nozzle will catch on the grass or some obstruction, but it's so much easier than a typical hose reel. I really love it.

So far so good. My third Suncast Aquawinder in the last twelve months.First one lasted almost a year, second one was defective when installed and have just had this unit one week.Poor quality materials used by Suncast. Cheap plastic gears that wear out quickly.

Self rewinding hose reel really works! It was a little hard to set up. The draining hose is attached with brute strength - I had to get my son to do it - but otherwise not bad. My wife loves to garden, but used to struggle to rewind the long hose. This is great for her. “Happy wife = happy life.”

Had to take the product back to the store. The rewind mechanism would not work. Am very surprised as this was not the first time I've installed the Aquawinder and they've always worked. To add insult to injury, I ordered another one and it's now been 2 weeks and haven't heard from the store as to availability/pickup.

I have bought two of these in the last seven years and each failed within a month or two of the Suncast warranty expiration. The automatic winding mechanism regularly struggled with my 75 foot hose and unwinding was even more problematical, with snags making it very difficult to manually extract the hose. The ultimate death of each unit was a leaks from inaccessible areas. Suncast sent a replacement part after the first breakdown but the repair required a complete disassembly of the unit and never resolved the problem. My request from Suncast for my second purchase to be replaced (I refuse to do another repair) was rejected. I will never by another Suncast product.

This is junk and totally overpriced. You are lucky if the product lasts two months. All plastic, cheaply made.

No it was delivered with broken parts. I returned it. Lowes had one in stock for $10 less. I hate that place but bought one there anyway.

Good in execution but not ecologically elegant
So, what to say about a hose reel? Does it hold a hose? Does it reel it up as advertised? Is it rugged enough? The answer is an unqualified yes. It does the job very well and looks quite nice as compared to an open reel with a dirty hose if you care about such things. What is not so great is the amount of water is basically wastes winding up the hose. If you live in a water metered jurisdiction, if your house connection is in a place were you don't want to shed a lot of water, then this may not be the item for you. I use the hose for watering my garden so I have ended up using a large paint pail to collect the water that is used to reel in the hose. I then distribute to places where it is needed. A gallon of fresh is a gallon of fresh and just that little amount added up over multiple uses can really end up being a lot. I hadn't reckoned with that when I purchased this product. I will probably purchase a longer waste hose that I can run into a garden rather than collect it this way. If you are in an underground garage or someplace where you can't conveniently run off the waste water (hopefully in a constructive fashion), then this isn't the product for you.

I just called Suncast customer service (800-846-2345 x5) and told the person that this is the second hose reel that stopped working. With the first one, the large wheel that holds the hose did not align with the axis location; with the one I have now I see that that the axis of one of the gears (there are several gears) cracked. She said "unfortunately" to me a number of times (its usually not good when customer service says "unfortunately" to you). As one or two other reviewers also stated, the customer service representative asked if I had a receipt, and I told her I did not keep the receipt for a purchase I made late, last summer. She said, "Unfortunately, without a receipt there is nothing we can do." I asked what would be the procedure if I did find the receipt. She said I would have to take the hose reel apart, remove and send in the bad part, and Suncast would send a replacement part. I told her that just trying to look at the mechanics that work the hose reel is difficult, and that trying to fix the reel would be a challenge. She responded several times with "unfortunately." When I asked to speak to a manager the representative immediately said that a manager is not available at this time. I kept insisting to speak to a manager, so she said she would put me on hold and I could speak to the manager when he becomes available. I was on hold for about 10 minutes and then I heard a dial tone; so the call was ended. I'm not clear why a receipt is needed for faulty merchandise sold by Suncast. Suncast must know that parts that go into their product and, if I did go headlong and attempt to remove and send in the bad gear, they should be able to just send me a new one. For instance, when I have had issues with my Weber grill or a table we have from Telescope, those companies just mailed the parts I needed without any requirement for a receipt. Also, Suncast should be aware that there hose reels have bad gears based on the many reviewers that have stated this. Suncast should make good on its faulty manufacturing for an item that originally cost consumers $90 to $100 by just mailing customers the replacement part and should not attempt to skirt around the problem by requiring receipts.
