A: Nothing. It is a discharge line. While the the hose is being wound up, water must be discharged. If you have problem with wasting water, then look for another product. While winding up the entire length of a hose you may discharge several gallons.

A: You have to make sure the switch on the side is properly flipped. Otherwise you are fighting against it.

A: found it is easier to pull out if water is turned off....our unit broke and can no longer use it....waste of money

A: You have to watch and make sure that the hose is rewound as close to perfect circles, no crossovers. If I were to get another one I would use one of the newer collapsible hoses. They are lighter and should solve the problem.
