Maybe I'm missing a piece in this kit, or maybe the design has changed since previous reviews, but there seems to be a glaring issue with this door. The door sits on the same track as my sliding glass door; which is good. The problem is now there's a 3" gap between the panel and my Screen door; which I can't close all the way now because my dog can't get out. I have to either leave it fully open, or leave the glass open and close the screen to approx where the panel is, but there's nothing to close it against, leaving a fantastic gap for bugs and insects to come into my house. Do none of the other people who bought this actually use their screen door? Or is this omission 'minor' as compared to the benefit of adding this panel? Love the panel, but how can this be overlooked?

We're sorry to hear that your door has a gap! Normally, your existing sliding glass door should line up with and close up against the pet door panel, so there shouldn't be any gaps. Please reach out to us directly at 1-800-732-2677 or info[at]petsafe.net so we can work together to figure out the best solution! PetSafe

Nice and sturdy. The bottom of the dog door sits low to the ground, allowing the dogs to easily walk through it. There isn't a way to lock this door to the wall-side of the sliding door, but a lock is included to install onto the existing sliding glass door and the panel. Be prepared to make holes in your sliding glass door and the panel to accommodate the lock. Both right and left sides of this panel are flat, which leaves a small space between the wall and the panel because of the existing sliding door locking mechanism (see photo - wasn't able to take a good picture). I suspect this is where the spongy double-sided tape goes, which I didn't try to install. Also, you can't fully close the screen door if you want in/out access, so expect a gap between the screen door and the glass door (see photo), though it does come with a rubber flap strip which might be for this purpose. I have not tried to install the flap. Put in the door about 5 weeks ago and my dogs and I are happy!

The door was very easy to install. The instructions shows how to install the panel for 3 different type of patio doors. Mine, type "A", was the easiest and the quickest. There is a front and back side of the panel. First, install the doggy door's sliding closing panel. This is the side you will want facing in towards your porch or home. Install the weather stripping (skinnier of the two that goes between your patio door and the panel) before attaching the door lock latch. The gap, after installing the weather strip, was too large for the latch to be installed. For me, there is 19 inches of clearance between the patio door and doggy panel. Well made in Mexico. The doggy closing door panel has a locking latch that is simple and effective. The cut out template for installing the patio/panel latch is on the last page of the instructions. The high price stopped me from giving this a 5 star rating.

This has made life easier, not having to let my dog out every hr or so is priceless. This works great for my 6mo old puppy. No longer have to worry about accidents as he can go out whenever he needs to. He learned to use it in under 10 min! Installation was simple, do yourself a favor and get heavy duty weather stripping and caulk around the outside to help keep the elements out. Pros: Easy install, sturdy, appearance, it locks Cons: Makes door opening much smaller, included weather seal, cannot use if screen door is closed

Doggie Door
I was apprehensive about installing a doggie door in my sliding glass patio door but was surprisingly satisfied with the results. Thank you for providing a quality product that resolves the problem of losing all that "bought air" through an ajar door.

Sturdy but drafty
This was very easy to install. The instructions are clear and installation itself is fast and efficient. It fits most door sizes so I will likely be able to use this if we move. On the down side, we had to purchase our own weather stripping to use with this, as the stuff provided is not sufficient. You really need to install stripping on both sides of the unit or you will notice air blowing thru. The real problem is the flap itself. It is like the magnet is not strong enough or heavy enough I'm not sure. with even the slightest breeze the flap blows open and will not close again unless you physically make it. It is the middle of winter and we live in an area without a lot of buildings around blocking wind so it basically stays open all of the time and our house is freezing as a result. I love the convenience of a dog door with an aging dog who needs to go out more frequently, but would have purchased another model if I had been given a warning about this. I would not suggest this to a friend.

Exactly what we needed
Watched the video for installation... it helps. I have a new energy efficient home and although installation was easy, I did have to adapt a couple of items. First of all upon installation the sliding door left a 1/4" gap at the bottom. After using a level I found the sliding door was not level and the new installation was perfect. Note: Adjust the sliding door using the screws at the bottom. Also, before installation you do have to remove the lock and other hardware from the sliding door and track. Finally, I did have to adjust the lock installation to make up for the design of the sliding door. The lock template could not placed exactly where it should - I had to move a bit. The back side of the door is not flat and needed to screw the weatherstrip on as the 2 sided tape would not hold. Training the dog was easy and she loves it. The lock feature is excellent. I live in Vegas and so far have not noticed any change in energy bill or drafts in the house.

Gaps Everywhere!!
And a slight 5 mile an hour breeze blows the door open with ease. The sweep only lasted a day before the glue died leaving yet more gaps on the backside, that was AFTER adding more weatherstripping.

I researched all of Home Depots reasonably priced options and elected to order in this particular unit. I'm glad I did. Not only did it install easily, but the main user, Ms Pepper, agrees it is perfect for her use.

    Definitely Disappointed
I’ve used your regular dog doors for over a decade and loved them. I specifically bought your patio dog door because of those experiences. I was really disappointed. - Opening up the package, the rubber window seal was just loosey goosey in the box, completely unraveled with no bag. This kinked the middle. I was still able to install it to the door. 24 hours later, the rubber is lying on the floor. The adhesive strip was still on the door, so it wasn’t an install problem. Your rubber peeled away from Your pre-installed glue strip. Then I had to peel that glue off and use a solvent to clean up the mess. This is a material incompatibility problem. - The instructions for install aren’t clear. Bad verbiage and poor pictures. More pictures/diagrams would be highly recommended for all aspects. A UX designer would have fixed this. - Once I got the door in the frame, I realized there’s a visible gap between the sliding door and the panel. You offered no weatherproofing. When I went to your YouTube channel about the install, just in case I messed up (I didn't, again, poor instructions), YOUR video also shows a sizable gap with light coming through. There are several comments asking about this. Your replies basically say: sorry, go buy some weather stripping. - The lock mechanism is a joke. This essentially renders the sliding aspect of a sliding door useless. In order to open the door, you have to bend over and pull a pin out. So much for usability and accessibility. Didn’t you do user-testing? - Even with your lock, there is no pressure to hold the door tight against the dog panel. I have to use the broomstick method, also recommended by other disappointed users in the comments. Yo… what happened here?

      Heats ourside during windy weather
The sliding glass door insert is alright, but whenever we their is winds, the flap keeps blowing open letting heat and AC out. Stronger magnets should be used to avoid this issue. Would make the door more energy efficient and save customers money from heat and AC loss. I have the extra large door.

Hard to install. Did not align with my sliders correctly and therefore left gaps where cold air comes in. The tape included did not stick at all.

I really like this pet door, it really appears to be very solid construction. It fits my vinyl sliding door great. However one thing I did not account for is the opening after it is installed. I have to squeeze really hard to go outside now. Other than that, I believe it is worth the money and so easy to install. Just make sure your opening is large enough to get out after installation.

It's like leaving the door open; build your own
This is single pane glass and a single flap; it doesn't close fully after a 4 months of use. If you live in California maybe this is fine, but for the rest of us that enjoy 4 seasons, it's only good for warmer weather. The included seal fell off after 2 days. You will not be able to lock the door once installed. Waste of money. Because I was sick of trying to heat up the outdoors, I pulled this thing out and built my own wall insert using a double-flap wall mounted dog door. Much better.

Great secure door for your pets
I purchased this to replace an old Petsafe/Johnson pet door that I could no longer get replacement flaps to fit. I was hoping that it would fit the same as the old door, but it is narrower so required me to move locks and alarm sensor. I have yet to decide if the flap works as well as the old 2 part flaps. I have noticed that the magnet doesn't always catch so am wondering how it will be when winter sets in. Other than these personal concerns, I am sure it would be a great door for a first timer. I have 11 cats that use this door many times a day so it get a work out!

Wish the door flap was a little taller. My dogs are within the weight rec for the door, but they have to stoop a lot to get through. They use it though….no more accidents

It worked fine, not exactly what I was looking for. I was replacing another insert, same size. Or so I thought the actual dimensions of the overall frame is smaller than what I needed. The flap is lower to the ground and maybe a bit taller, that is what I was looking for to accommodate a smaller dog and a taller puppy. It will work for now but it will have to be replaced again soon.
