steam bath in our laundry room
We were SO hoping this dryer would be wonderful... and it just isn't. We've had it for a week and it doesn't dry anything in faster than 2 cycles. The laundry room turns into a steam bath every time we run it. On top of that, it produces a high-pitched whine that gives me a headache every time. It's going back. I hope the next iteration of this dryer fixes these issues!

    slowest dryer ever
We have had it for about 2 weeks and my wife is begging me to return it. I don't even know how, as the delivery men discarded the package when it was delivered. It is loud, produces a lot of heat in the room, and is REALLY REALLY SLOW. 2 loads of laundry is now a 6-7 hour ordeal. I really want a more efficient electric dryer (no gas in my neighborhood and crazy HOA bans clothes lines), but this one is a big sacrifice.

NOT energy efficient and poor design
We bought this new WED99HED ventless heat pump dryer even though it was considerably more expensive because Whirlpool touted significant energy savings. The logic behind the design made perfect sense - why send all that hot air out the vent when you can recycle it into the machine and not have to keep reheating it. The dryer worked great for the first 3 months, but then started dumping hot air into our laundry room, turning it into a sauna. Two technicians came out and neither one had ever seen this machine before. Whirlpool tech support claims the machine is 'working as designed' - the operating temperature is up to 105 degrees and because there is no vent the heat has nowhere to go but into the laundry room. We live in Florida, so whatever energy savings we may be getting from the dryer will be more than lost by the increased air conditioning bill to cool all that hot air. Now we are going to have to install a fan vent in the laundry room to try and remove the hot air from the house. BTW they don't tell you there is a screen on the BACK of the machine that they expect you to clean once a month - our laundry room is just wide enough for the washer and dryer to fit - so we are going to routinely have to actually pull this heavy beast out to get at the back. Very poor design. Whirlpool has a very unhappy consumer here.

Very Happy, Impressed - Highly Recommend
The primary motivation for purchasing this product was to save us time, as utilization of this dryer (in part) eliminates the need to hang-dry laundry. Secondary reasons include eliminating air infiltration (pressurizing) issues inherent in normal/conventional dryers that utilize a dryer vent to exhaust hot air, and reducing our electricity consumption. We set-up the dryer ourselves and it was easy to set-up. Although I'm not sure if it was necessary, I applied some teflon tape to the threading on the drain pipe. I think another reviewer mentioned that they noticed water underneath their dryer, I think teflon tape would take care of the problem. I've kept a careful eye for water leaking and it's been very dry, not a drop of water. To date, my wife has been impressed with this dryer's ability to dry laundry without shrinking. This, of course, is due to this Dryer utilizing a heat pump to dry the clothes. I would imagine that this feature alone saves us an hour a week, which we really value. We would have been hang-drying these same clothes with our previous clothes dryer. We have owned this dryer for about 6 weeks and are extremely happy with it. It's quieter than our previous dryer and my wife and I both perceive it as being very quite overall, and it is certainly much, much quieter than our washing machine (which spins very quickly). I think this dryer actually does a better job drying. The clothes are softer to the touch and a bit more fluffy. I'm guessing that this is due to the fact that the clothes are dried with less heat. The user can choose the speed for a load of clothes. The speedier the drying cycle the more heat it uses. We always chose the "Eco" option, which makes greater utilization of the heat pump, consuming less electricity. This dryer will reduce our natural gas consumption too. Living in upstate NY the Winter's can get very cold. Conventional dryers exhaust air out of home through a duct. This creates a vacuum and outside air is pulled into the home to make up for the air expelled. In the Winter, really cold air gets pulled in to house. I guess likewise, on a really hot day, hot humid air is pulled in. What I'm trying to say is, I'm happy that this will not be an issue with this new dryer. I would imagine, if you live in a climate with very warm or cold temperatures for part of the year then this dryer would make it easier on your HVAC equipment to maintain the desired indoor air temperature.

        bad bad bad. sad dad.
I waited a year to replace a malfunctioning dryer after learning the new heat pump dryers were going to be released in the US. I received mine 2 days ago and just started using it. The interior light isn't working - the repair people are supposed to come out and fix it. Since it is a fancy LED, there is no simple bulb to replace. The bigger problems are these: 1) It is louder than a normal dryer, which would have been OK, but the major problem is that it makes a bone-chilling whine all the time it runs. I don't think I can bear to use it while I am in the house. 2) It has two very delicate looking lint filters. Complicated folding contraptions made of all thin plastic. If I keep the dryer, I will buy spares for both of these as they surely won't last very long. The normal one is supposed to be cleaned ever use and the extra one every five uses, but it seems others are saying to clean both every cycle, and the warning light to clean the second filter came on after the second load. 3) I went to the whirlpool website to see about prices for the spare parts and this model is not listed. When I tried to chat with customer service to get the part numbers, they told me the model didn't exist. What a start!!!

        Heat Pump Dryer
We purchased a HybridCare? Ventless Duet® Dryer with Heat Pump Technology about a month ago. Our purchase was based on the desire to alleviate the long dryer run we have in our home (a vent fan was undesirable). If you are looking for a very economical to run, full sized machine with absolutely no need for venting this model is superb.

          Saves on home heating/AC
I sought for a heat pump clothes dryer over many years, and this was one of two models that became available in the US in 2015. I chose this model because it had faster dry times as reported relative to the other model. Overall I am very happy with my choice. It dries large loads, condenses the water out, and runs it to the drain. It saves money on energy used to dry the clothes, but that alone would not make it worth the money unless you have strong environmental interests. I live in a cold winter climate, and we launder a lot of clothes, so that the dryer runs often. The air that blows through a normal dryer gets blown out of the house, and new cold air comes into the house to replace it, and it needs to be heated. Heat pump clothes dryers like this one do not vent air outside, so you save on the home heating/AC. One small drawback I have found with this model other than slightly longer dry times (with the option for faster ones by selection, at higher energy use), is that it includes a second lint filter that needs to be cleaned every five loads. Cleaning this filter takes a few minutes each week for us. This filter is necessary to prevent build up of lint on the heat pump heat exchanger. Another drawback is that it only rotates one way, so that very large blankets occasionally rotate about a center that stays moist.Bottom line is that it works well for our family needs (6 people, including 4 children), and it dries most items and large loads very well.

Very efficient, seems well-built, leaves moisture in the air
We are doing renovations and wanted to get a dryer that wouldn't need a vent. This was basically the only full-size one available that is ventless so we bought it 'sight unseen.' We knew we were taking a risk but it seems to be worth it. Pricey for sure, and not much selection is available at the moment for heat-pump dryers but it is new technology. Our previous 2012 Kenmore dryer used about 5kW of electricity when on and this one uses between 1.5-2kW on the eco setting. I haven't noticed it taking much longer than my previous dryer and I don't find it to be too loud. It has more of a humming sound than a slight thumping sound like I am used to.My only issue with it is that it seems to leave a fair bit of moisture in the air and I am concerned about putting it in my basement. When I walk into my laundry room it now feels hot and humid in there, even some condensation not the windows. The drain appears to work fine as I can hear water going down it, and there are no puddles on the floor. Also, my wife isn't too thrilled that both lint filters require you to snap them open to clean out, it's not as quick as a traditional flat filter that you just swipe your hand across.

Great Product, Whirlpool Hit a GRAND SLAM!!
I bought this dryer in January 2015, It is a great product. Nice features. I like the fact that it is vent less and uses the same heat over and over. No more losing heat out the vent. I always thought there must be a better way. Congratulations to the Whirlpool engineers!! I would recommend this dryer to anyone. My wife and I enjoy using it, the 15.5" pedestal makes using this dryer a pleasure!!

                      Loud and sometimes leaks
It is a great dryer. The clothes come out nice and dry to the touch and a bit fluffier then our old dryer. Like the washer we got with it they are much louder than our old front loaders from the late 90s. The dryer has a constant noise similar in volume to a hair dryer running the whole time it is running. If you had a laundry room or somewhere that there is a door in between you and the dryer it probably wouldn't be an issue but ours are out in the hall in a little laundry nook with no doors.I've leveled it over and over, clean both filters after every use and made sure they are set properly but it often leaks by both front feet and fills the bottom filter area with condensation.

                        Amazing machine!
I researched several ventless dryers before buying. This one is excellent. It dries cloths completely and the capacity allows me to dry full loads of laundry.

                            Awesome but noisy
I pre-ordered this unit and have had it about 2 weeks. I have solar panels and the added efficiency of the heat pump is great. My wife says the clothes come out better due to reduced temperature. The only drawback is that it is much louder tha n conventional dryer, even to the point of being annoying.

                              Great Ventless Solution
I searched for months for a full size ventless dryer and almost gave up until I found this unit. I've run 6 loads through this dryer and have been very pleased with the results so far. Results are very comparable to vented dryers in Quick Dry setting. Only knock is the price, but it was still cheaper than what I would've spent to add vent and booster fan required for my application.
