80% of the power is wasted. The grates are very high. There are no alternatives. I wish they have grates which are at least an 1 to 1.5 inches closer to the fire.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had it over a month and I love the heavy grates. You can slide a pot to a different burner without lifting it. The only drawback I see with it is when you remove the grates it's hard to line them back up with the little bumps they made. They should have indented the stove top to align the grates.

Works great, so far, but I have only used it twice. I will let you know more is six months.

I picked this cooktop because of the simple, two-part grill set. However, the location of the knobs at the front of the cooktop limits the use of pans and pots on the front two burners: there is just not enough space. My second criticism is that the "low" position for the back burners is not low at all - it is still very hot.

Nice features, flame control is minimal.

The stainless steel grade is very cheap. It is very soft and scratches, abrades, and stains very easy. Of course you have to take special care with SST, but as an engineer, the grade is cheap and soft, no where near like the grades used in sinks. Just be aware that your nice shiny satin finish won't last long. I give a low review due to material quality, price, and heavy grates.

I've never seen such cheap grade stainless steel! It has a nice mill finish, but it is not hardened and scratches and abrades and stains really easy. Yes, stainless steel can stain. As they try to reduce the standard cost, but increase the retail price, you get cheaper grade stainless steel. I'm an Engineer, btw. I would avoid these stainless steel products. They may look nice for a short time, but as soon as you get a nice scratch, stain, or abrasion mark on the finish, it can never look new again.I'm giving this one star for quality and price and really heavy grates, hence the need for the hinged grate model. Performance, yeah, it cooks like all the rest.

The grate is either too high, or the burners are too small or too low. Not sure how well the ink stamped to mark the burner height is. Seems really delicate, and I am taking care to not scratch it off. I like how the grates just lift off rather than pivot upward. One burner, the largest should be in the front. I really don't understand why both large burners are in the back. This does not seem well thought out by Whirlpool, and I would not buy another one made from Whirlpool. Also all ingitors start, and doesn't matter what burner you turn on, Why
