The directions were easy to understand. The product had everything we needed to reinstall a ceiling fan that had fallen through the ceiling. Overall simple to fix.

Why did they change?!?
These new commercial electric boxes are garbage! I’ve installed 100 + ceiling fan boxes over the years and these are by far the worst and most difficult to use.

It's designed for 16" - 24" centers. Naturally we had a 14" spacing in that spot and it had to be cut. It's hard steel with a big lead screw and it's a royal pain to cut. So I'm not super happy about that. It would not be rocket science to make one with a wider range.

The best thing to have when replacing your ceiling fan is this ceiling fan Saf-T-Brace. It supports the weight of the ceiling fan and you don't need to craw into the attic to replace it.

Design Flaw
Using this with the hanging bracket supplied with a separately purchased chandelier. 1. The box does not securely fasten to the brace. It hangs slightly from the bracket that holds it onto the brace, so when pushing up with my chandelier to get the bolts from the bracket down through the cover of the chandelier, it pushes the whole box and bracket back up (into the too-large hole cut in the drywall ceiling by previous owners). 2. When following manufacturer instructions to use ONLY the threaded holes on the box and not the box ears, it is impossible to line up both of the box threaded holes with the hanging bracket that came with my light fixture. I had to use one threaded hole and two box ear holes. I hope this will support my light, which only weighs about 5lbs.

Product works fine if all parts are in box. I ordered 2 units, both were missing pieces, I was able to make one from both units. I don't know whether this is a manufacturer problem or a H.D. problem of people returning items without all parts. I ordered these online and picked up at customer service counter. I don't know this for a fact but it seems to me that H.D. has a policy of filling online orders from returned items or items with damaged packaging, as other online orders I have placed had similar issues. I now check all orders before leaving the store.

awesome and easy to install (relative to the task at hand!!!!). Amazing how even little details are thought of: the screws in the brace are magnetic which helps hold the box in place when putting the nuts in place. Great piece of hardware!

Solid quality product. Con: cannot be locked internally from rotation and therefore "wiggles" in the direction of rotation (up and down in picture). This can be a problem with fans. Solution: secure by fastening/connecting to drywall.

I bought this in two sizes because I was not sure which I needed but I found them more difficult to install than similar braces I have used in the past. (Also, while Home Depot shows this as a Westinghouse brace there was nothing on the packaging that had any reference to Westinghouse. I am not exactly sure of the name but it was something like Consumer Electric.)
The two sizes had different ways to attach the junction box once the brace was mounted. One method was almost impossible having to try to attach bolts from the underside into two holes in the bracket above the brace. The other was a little easier since the bolts hung down from the bracket and you only had to push the box up over the bolts then attach nuts and tighten. Neither matched the Westinghouse installation video on the Home Depot website.

Incredibly easy to use. Took 2 minutes to install after cutting the hole in the drywall, but as others have noted, it made it significantly easier to be able to access the attic above. Hung a decent sized ceiling fan, it is very sturdy and doesn't rock at all on the highest speed.

Not the best ceiling fan box out there.
Once box installed it was very flemsy when tested for strength. Rod was good. The problem is there are only 2 securing studs. Other ones have 4. Also no side holes for electrical wires.

I'd gone into my local Home Depot store intending to buy another, and more expensive ceiling fan bracket for a fan I was installing. The store associate suggested this one, and pointed out its features. Not only was it less money, but worked better for me than would have what I originally thought I wanted! Thanks Home Depot!

It states that you do not have to access the roof space which if you have no insulation is true but if you have insulation in the roof space is neigh near impossible to go up through the space and adjust. We ended up in the roof space to install and that was a pretty easy installation and a good product. I gave it three stars only because it stated that you do not have to go into the roof which is not necessarily true.

Good product, I am an electrical contractor and have used this product many dozens of times, pretty much the only thing you can use to install ceiling fans after Sheetrock is up, from the description on the bad reviews It sounds like they were installing it wrong, probably should have read instructions

Perfect for 1980's light box replacement
Our house was built in the 80s and the ceiling electric box was not strong enough to hold a ceiling fan. I purchased this to replace the box and it was easy to install and super strong. No attic access was needed. I will probably purchase more for the other rooms in the house. Great product!

Made My Fan Installation and Breeze
I used the Saf-T-Brace to install the Hunter Antero 46" White Ceiling Fan in an existing light fixture. The brace was simple to install (no tools needed, tightened by hand) - I simply twisted the brace until it made solid contact with the two joists. The electrical box was then mounted to the brace, and the fan base was mounted to the electrical box. The brace provided a solid mount for the fan without any additional modification needed. I am very pleased with the result.
