Customer Reviews for SharkBite 1/2 in. Push-to-Connect Brass Coupling Fitting (10-Pack)

After I moved into my new (old) house I had to call a plumber 1 year later due to a leak in the steel piping from the street up to the house. He had to replace the pipes due to extensive corrosion (after 40 years). He used 1in. PEX pipe. A few feet from the house he installed a SharkBite shut off valve. He also used a SharkBite "reducer" connector from 1 in to a 3/4 in PEX which was joined to the copper pipe leading under the house. That was 5 years ago. Yesterday, I got a water bill for over 4 times the amount I normally pay.... and started looking for a leak. I found it where he had installed the SharkBite reducer connector. In fact the brass connector had completely corroded and broken off away from the 3/4 PEX pipe. The plastic fittings inside the Shark-Bite connector were all like new, still gripping to the pipe, but that doesn't count for much if the outer "brass" casing dissolves away in 5 years time. I am afraid to allow another plumber who also wants to use a Shark-Bite connector to do so. He claims they're "made better" now, but it seems to me that the testing ground is literally in the installation of it. I know a lot of people are swearing by them, but I would say simply "beware" if the connector is going to be 2 ft. underground.

I used this when replacing a hose bibb. Super simple, solid connection.

returned to store. i found out they were not recommended for underground applications, which mine was. and not recommended for permanent connections because of O-rings deteriorate

I ended up not using this part in the install so it was returned to the store.
