I have a love/hate relationship with this tool. I bought it for a project in my son’s basement, wanting to speed up the drywall process. Read the reviews and found them to be accurate. It’s a must to keep the gun perpendicular to the drywall. Getting into corners is not possible most times so I still had to use individual screws in all the corners. Sometimes it doesn’t move the screws forward smoothly. In fact, in one strip 10 screws were left. That only happened once but it frequently missed a screw or two per strip. That said I would buy it again. It did speed up hanging and fastening the drywall once I got a rhythm going. I did have to go back and deal with screws that weren’t driven in deeply enough but there weren’t many—excepting the corners and any tight spots. It’s worth the price for a DIYer like me.

Just bought the Ridgid Collated Screw Driver. Awesome product.
I saw some pretty bad reviews, and a few pretty good ones, so I thought I would take a chance. I have a finishing nail gun, but nothing so heavy duty as this. I read reviews where people complained that the bits wore down fast, the heads of the screws were twisting off, the screws were stripping out the wood, and or the screw driver was jamming a lot. So before trying it out, I read the instruction carefully and watched a couple videos before taking it for a spin. Using 2 1/2" collated deck screws (type "CS"), I first checked to make sure the screw heads were not sticking out too far per the instructions, made sure the screw gun was set for 2 1/2 inch screws, and started the screw driver before doing the first screw. The first screw stuck out of the wood by a little more than 1/8 inch, so I adjusted the setting for countersink. After that I did several more screws without a single problem. It countersunk the screw 1/8 inch, which was perfect. I left the screw driver running the whole time and it was very fast and for the most part, flawless. I did several tests, so I can honestly say for me it was a great purchase.

Jams frequently
I got this for a Christmas present last year. The first time I got to use it was this week. We are hanging drywall in a house. I didn't want to attempt a new tool on the ceilings, so I waited until we were hanging the walls. It jammed multiple times over two days. Its either going back to the store or to the pawn shop.

Never used a screw gun before, just an electric drill with a clutch & Torx bit. That being said, I could not get this thing to work correctly. Every 2nd or 3rd screw, it would not advance. I talked with the Rigid help desk, who were very helpful, and NOT offshore, they walked me through some adjustments, which helped some (misfeeds down to every 8-10 screws). The guy said I probably needed a new "head" (the drill, not me...I think!), said they could send it out within a few days, or I could take the gun back for replacement.
I didn't have time to do either, so went back to the electric drill system, & frankly, it worked better for me. With the gun, it was very difficult to precisely place a screw, as you can't see where it will be driven. Also, the system uses square head screws, and even after the limited use - maybe 30 screws - the bit was starting to show some rounding, so I returned the drill for a refund.
So, maybe it's me, but in my case, the "old school" system works better!

Works great.
Some advice line up the tool, pull the trigger to get the drill spinning, put force behind the drill to get it to plunge forward to drive the screw into the material. Having the drill perpendicular is important or it won't allow the drill to plunge forward.

Used it to drive 1-1/4" screws to hang OSB. At first it would jam about every 10 screws, then I learned to keep it perfectly perpendicular to the wall and kept the trigger on, then it worked really well. It is heavy and in awkward positions I couldn't drive a screw all the way in, but that is my limitation and not the screw driver's.

Don't waste your time or money. Most Ridgid tools are great. This one is not. I tried 2 of them. Neither one would feed correctly. I tried different brands of screws. Still wouldn't work. If you can get 4 screws in a row without the gun jamming, you're doing well. I returned both guns and bought a Senco. The Senco is a much better product.

Poor design
I just spent an hour trying to get this poorly designed tool to drive screws. If by some stroke of luck the collated strip is advanced perfectly you might get a screw driven. About 1 in 10 in my experience works out that way. Most of the time the screw is either pointing off center just enough to hit the "guide" or spins in to some indeterminate depth. Because the tool is pressure sensitive you can't back out or try re-driving to set it. I build houses, wood boats and restore cars, I know my way around tools, don't waste your money on this one.

Once I figured out how to use it correctly it worked well. Still a few missed screws but no problem. My son just couldn't figure it out. You either get it or you don't.
