I purchased the diamond hole saw to drill eight holes through porcelain tile to install shower doors. It met my expectations, and I was completely satisfied with its performance. I believe that eight to ten holes is about the life of the hole saw, but for the price it performed well.

Worked well, but when you have to use one adhesive patch per hole, I'll need replacements. I didn't see any at store.

Excellent for what I needed. It does not have a pilot drill, so you must use the base to get the bit started. I needed to over drill a hole and anything with a pilot would not work. For new holes, I would go with a pilot drill version just because the bit stays together. This unit consists of 2 important pieces (drill and guide) and one convenient disposable piece (a sticker that helps keep the guide from moving). Eventually I will run out of stickers and probably lose the guide. I only need this type of tool once every 5 years...

        Not sure
We bought the bit to drill holes in ceramic bath tile to attach shower curtain rod but they kept breaking. Could be an issue with our drill but we have yet to find the proper bit. Doing 50 rooms so it's been a pain.

The drill bit was purchased to install a shower curtain rod requiring drilling into porcelain tile. The water resevoir provided did not work. The water ran through the device before you inserted the drill bit. In fairness to the bit itself, it did eventually penetrate the tile drilling at 10 second intervals dipping in water between drilling intervals to cool it down.

          Not worth buying
Yes it is half the cost of other bits, but will last 25% as long.

            Works well
I had tiled a back splash and failed to leave enough room above and below a couple of outlet boxes for the cover screws. This drill did the job. Because I was working around electrical boxes, I could not set-up the included water cooler. I stopped every so often and dipped the drill bit into a bowl of cool water to keep it from over heating. A word of caution here. I had to buy a second bit to finish the job because I got impatient with the first and kept it in the hole too long. It overheated and the adhesive that holds the diamond grit to the tube melted and I lost all of the grit on the cutting edge. One other curious thing, I wanted a 1/4 inch bit, but the 5/16 was a dollar cheaper, so I went with the 5/16.

              The perfect tool.
With my new bathroom complete except for the shower door, we faced a tough job of drilling through porcelain tile in order to install the door correctly. After struggling with other tile bits, masonry bits, we finally got on line and did a little more research. We found this bit at Home Depot. For $10.00 it was worth my time to give it a try. We were able to drill the remaining 5 holes in a quarter of the time it took to drill the first 3. I was so happy with it, I passed the info on to my contractor so he can use one on his next job. The instructions were clear, and the bit performed as promised. In addition, we were able to use my battery powered drill. A high powered hammer drill was not required.

Couldn't get through even one hole
Similiar to a another reviewer's experience, after just one hole the end of the bit was completely bare. Spend the extra money on a Bosch bit.

Best bit I found for drilling granite. Just keep the material wet.
Good drill did not overheat as long as the material drilling was kept wet. Excellent

                  did it's job
The drill bit worked surprisingly well for a cheap diamond bit. I did 2 dozen holes and the last went as well as the first. The box and tape system was a joke, though. Nice idea, but.... I ended up using a spray bottle and tried to control the mess.

                    Worked once
I had two holes to drill through tile to install a microwave. After one hole the blade was completely bare. The design is you put a couple teaspoons of water in the little cup, which drizzles out immediately. About a second, two seconds tops. The idea is the water bathes the drill bit and keeps it lubricated. If you put your thumb over the top it keeps the water from dribbling out so fast while you position the cup over the place you want to drill. They give you a little sticky foam to attach the cup to the wall on the spot you want to drill. Of course you can't see the mark on the wall and hold your thumb on top of the cup, so you take your thumb off and by this time water has all drizzled out and you have to start over. And of course nothing sticks to the wall, which is wet. With four hands working together and about ten tries we finally drilled one hole. And that was the end if the useful life of this drill bit. A pretty expensive hole. I am giving two stars instead of zero because it did drill one hole quickly. All the other drill bits we tried including tile bits, did not work as well.

                      Drilling through tile
If I could give this item more than five stars I would, those who give it less, have not tried other options to drill through difficult tile. The most important comment is "IT WORKS". Yes it is a little difficult to use, but again it works. Nothing else that I tried came close, and I spent more than $50 on other options. I renovated my shower with very hard Italian tile. I needed to drill screw holes and could not, until I tried this. it is a kit with drill and an excellent alignment/cooling device . I was not sure how many holes I could drill with the kit (I had many) so I bought two more. I would absolutely recommend it.

                      FAST CUTTING
The packaging claim that you can have a hole in 30 seconds is no joke... that's about how long it took. I had spent at least 15 minutes grinding away with a 5/16 carbide tile bit (junk!) and only was about a third of the way through the tile. With 5 more holes to drill for my shower doors I decided to run back out and pick up one of these. It really does blast a hole in 30 seconds or less. Rather than grind away all of the material in the hole, it uses a diamond ring to bore out a "plug". When it gets all the way through, the center of the plug breaks free and you have a complete 5/16 hole. Pretty smart. There are a few flaws worth noting though: 1) The adhesive pads that hold the cutting guide in place are JUNK. If they get wet they break free... and this tool operates with a steady supply of water dripping on it. 2) The water reservoir contraption is fussy and awkward. I found it much easier to use a spray bottle in my left hand and just keep the bit wet. 3) The plugs I mentioned earlier tend to jam up in the center of the bit. They're real hard to push out or break free, and if you get too many of them in there it stops cutting plugs. I used a small carbide tile bit to bore out the inside of the bit between holes. Annoying, but effective.

                      Cheap and worth every penny
The adhesive does not like to be wet and will not hold up for the full hole, re-enforce by using duct tape. The three holes in the water holder give you about 20 seconds of drilling time before you run out of water. Cover one of them with eletrical tape. Takes a good 10 seconds to assemble the package in place. So assemble it first - THEN fill the water holder. Drill for about 10 seconds, then back off - don't overstress the bit. It's really a pretty horrible rig, but it gets the job done, and for 10-11 bucks, I can't really complain.

                        Works like a charm!
We had to drill two 5/16" holes in our 1/2" tile granite backsplash to install a new microwave. This little gadget saved the day. The water well is small so had to refill it a couple of times in order to drill each hole but not a problem. It's small size makes it easier to use in tight spots. No special drill needed. We used our cordless drill. We placed a towel under our work area to catch the excess water from the refills so that we wouldn't need to remove the unit each time the top half was refilled. What great little invention!

Does the job, could last longer.
I used a water bottle to keep a constant flow onto the bit and it cut 6 holes, unfortunately I had to buy another bit for the remaining 2 holes.

                        It helped us!
We had to drill six holes for the shower door and eight more for the towel/toilet paper bars. By the end it was getting dull, but it really helped us cut into the tile. I recommend that you clean out the tile and mortar that builds up in the core of the bit after each hole or it gets packed in there.
