Hey--Houston--there IS a Problem!!
I have my grinder for a little over three years and yes it has surpassed the warranty period, but there is definitely a problem with the manufacturing of this unit. Since I have purchased the machine, I have noticed coffee grinds on my counter top cut chalked it up to the fact that there is static and it happens so I have cleaned it up and said nothing. Last weekend, when I lifted the grinder to clean as usual, the coffee grinds would not stop coming out of the housing were the wiring is located so my husband opened it up to find at least a pound of ground coffee packed into the wiring. I then looked up the reviews on this item and have noticed that I am not the only one and I am sure that when individuals find their grinder is not working, it is probably from packed coffee grinds in the wiring compartment. Is this not dangerous?? Needless to say, I have replaced it with another manufacturer of burr grinder. Mr. Coffee--you lost my business and who knows how many more will be lost after they have read this. Maybe it's time to re-engineer this product so this will no longer happen!

    Works superbly for me!
    I am loving my Mr. Coffee Burr Grinder with 18 settings. I bought this about 3 years ago, and it still works without a glitch. Why others have had such issues with the coffee in the machine is a mystery to me. I have never had issues with mine, and recently I dropped the receptacle for the ground coffee and cracked the edge off -- enough so it can't be used as it is. I am trying now to get a replacement piece for my machine -- but there is none to be ordered here on line. I have submitted a request to customer service to help with getting another part to replace the broken receptacle so we'll see if I can get one. I so miss my coffee grinder, this has been the BEST coffee grinder I have ever had, and I use it regularly without any issues.

      Love the ease of use
      My only complaint is that it has a tendency to let some coffee stick to the side. I’m thinking it’s from the static electricity. With the clear top it is very aesthetically pleasing to see the coffee beans in the kitchen. Had mine for 3-4 months now daily use with no problems. It is loud though especially in small studio spaces.

        Annoying machine.
        I have had a model BVMC-BMH23 coffee grinder for several years. I would grind coffee beans with it every morning or every other morning. I was constantly cleaning up grounds from the counter. The adjustable grinding feature worked well, but the constant clean up was so annoying. Finally, in desperation, my husband decided to diagnose the problem. There are 4 open slots on the bottom of the machine, concealed by the area to wrap the cord. After much tapping and bumping, he was able to get about a pound of stale coffee grounds to fall out of the bottom of the machine. It seems there's even more still in the machine and no way to clean it out. We are done with this grinder and immediately purchased a different brand, after doing some on-line research. There must be some sort of design flaw that needs to be addressed. What a disappointment.

          coffee being dumped into inside chamber
          Have had this coffee grinder and have LOVED it right up until a month ago. Same complaints others have had, something has changed, moved, because now as the coffee grinds, more than half is deposited inside the grinder, into the body and around the electrical components. First noticed coffee on the counter, took it apart and the chamber was packed full of coffee, easily two cups of ground coffee. Reassembled it and a week later, took apart again due to coffee on counter, same. Over a cup of grounds inside, now looking for a new, different manufacture. Grinders are not a cheap investment.

            Worked good for a while
            We loved it at first. But then after a few months the thing just keeps getting louder and louder and takes forever to grind now. It you to be much faster now it takes over a minute to grind the coffee. It leaves a giant mess all over the counter. We you it ever morning. We might try other brand because this one didn’t last very long. We love the features on this one but need something that lasts and maybe dosnt make the big mess. Maybe other brands won’t be so ear piercing screeching and take for ever to grind. Really wish the blades lasted longer.

              Mr Coffee Automatic Burr Mill Grinder
              I think its an ok coffee grinder. I like to grind a little finer than the Mr Coffee grinder fine setting, as I have smaller amounts in my small grinder. But, I do like it and would recommend it.

              Does a consistent grind and holds its settings. However, this is the 3rd machine i have purchased in the last 3 years. I wish I kept the paper work and returned for replacement. I still have the other two. The only reason I keep purchasing is the quality of the grind (until it stops working)

              What would be great for it
              I have had mine for over 6yrs with no problems and I primarily drink espresso based drinks. 1 thing I love about other mills on the market is their ability to dispense the ground beans directly into your portafilter. Mr Coffee should make a accesory that goes in the place the basket goes and then people would have the choice of where their coffee grounds go. It would be something that would be very easy to manufacture and it would give the burr mill another selling point. Have a great day.

                Nice Machine - it it's broke!

                  Great Grinder! Very consistent.
                  I've had this coffee grinder for about 5 years now. It grinds very consistently to the setting every time. I don't particularly like the clean-up, but that's a problem for all coffee grinders. I haven't had a problem with it since I've owned it. It was definitely well worth the purchase given the quality of grind and how long it has served me and my partner.

                    Still Working Good
                    Unfortunately, as with most things in life, we only hear about the bad. But as for me, I received one with no defects and it has been working well for nearly three years, although I don’t use it in the summer months. However I have now broken the hopper ( my fault ) and found that it doesn’t take a whole lot to snap it off from the stem. But like I said, it was my fault for dropping a mug on it . And, like all electric grinders (from what I understand ) there is the pesky static cling in the grind container. All in all, you won’t find a better grinder without spending a lot more money.

                      Bought this for my mother for Christmas. She’s loves it! She got tired of having to hand grind her beans. Super easy to use, convenient catcher. Comes with a cleaning brush to help clean out the grinder. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a good grinder.

                      Dead on Arrival
                      I loaded the hopper and hit the power button per the instructions in the manual. The grinder spit out inconsistently sized grounds for about five seconds before it stopped completely. Now, when I hit the power button, it just hums until I hit the button again to shut the unit off. This was bought for my birthday by my 80 year old mom who lives in another state, and was purchased at a store that is not located in the state I live in, so it will be very hard to return to the store. Very disappointing

                        Great but doesn’t last poor motor quality.
                        I purchased my second Mr. Coffee Burr Grinder and this time it lasted 5 months. My first one lasted 9 months. Considering the price, I won’t be buying another one. The motor gives out and stops working. I used it as instructed. Shame on you Mr. Coffee for your poor quality manufacturing techniques. The unit doesn’t even last a year!

                          An affordably excellent grinder!
                          I am not a paid spokesman for Mr. Coffee, nor do I have a formal relationship with them. I love coffee and have drank it every day since I was 5! When I was 35, I met someone from India, his sister-in-law's family owned a coffee plantation and we started our first "gourmet" coffee brand importing their green beans to the US. I leaned a TON about how to make different kinds of great coffee. I have to say, the difference in taste is startling! You'll never want to drink bad coffee again! I am coming up on the 20th anniversary of my first venture. My goal is to educate consumers, offer advice and distribute affordable, great tasting coffee beans. When it comes to grinders, I'm not an engineer or consider myself an "expert", but, I do understand the differences of how grinders work and how it effects taste. It's a given, to make a great tasting cup of coffee, you must have the highest quality, FRESHLY roasted beans. Roasted coffee beans are food...and like any food item, in time they grow stale, even if it is stored properly. Don't be surprised if the major brand whole bean coffee you buy at your grocery store (which was roasted months ago) only tastes marginally better when you grind it yourself. It isn't your grinder or your coffee makers fault! But, even with the finest, freshest whole beans, if not ground properly, will never make a great cup! So, what is the best way to get whole bean roasted coffee into a usable format? For in-home coffee grinding, your choices really come down to blade "choppers" or burr grinders. Burr grinders typically come in 2 varieties for home use, conical or flat burr. Blade "choppers" are the most affordable, easiest to maintain. They also are the least consistent in "grinding" your coffee. That is because they don't grind, they chop the bean. The result is typically uneven sized piece in your grounds and, difficulty controling the consistency, how fine it chops the coffee. So, when it comes to "grinding" coffee, I place it 3rd. But, again, they are very simple to use, easy to clean, affordable device that serves multiple purposes and should be in every home kitchen because of its multi-purpose function as well as to serve as a backup! When it comes to selecting a coffee grinder, there is nothing better suited for the job than a burr grinder. Hands down, you will find it is worth the extra cost! I have never used my burr grinder for anything other than coffee, but, I suppose it could grind other things too. A little history...Not long ago, burr grinders were simply too expensive for home use. They were heavy, big, bulky, took up WAY too much counter space and cost thousands of dollars. They were (and still are) kind of finicky machines that required regular maintenance such as cleaning, sharpening and replacement of the burr mechanism, otherwise, they don't work properly. Left over residual grounds will go stale and could effect the fresh beans when they come in contact with it. Simply put, commercial grade machines are not a real consumer-friendly device. Now, if you happen to own one, have the expertise to take care of it, kudos to you, they are an awesome way to grind lots of coffee every day. I have owned several in my 20 years, but, again, I am grinding LOTS of coffee, every day. Coffee will taste different if the grinder is not capable of producing evenly sized pieces to the correct level of grind (course, medium, fine, super fine). Different types of coffee makers require different consistency of grounds. For example, k-cup and espresso makers require a very fine, powdery grind, while a French press requires it be course and an auto-drip maker, somewhere in between! The best part of grinding your own coffee is, depending on your particular taste, you can experiment to find what grind consistency is just right for you! And, thanks to the innovation efforts of manufacturers like Mr. Coffee, quality burr grinders like this one have been shrunk down into a space-saving, affordable design that does a remarkable job! But, to bring out the finest flavors of your coffee without any bitterness, you must produce an evenly sized ground consistency appropriate for your maker (auto drip, perculator, K-Cup, French press, etc). Uneven sized particles will change the taste and, in part, cause bitterness. There are multiple types of burr grinders available, 2 of which are typically available for home use today. They are the conical burr and the flat burr grinders. There are pluses and minuses to each, so, hard to pick a true winner...I place them almost even with each other. A lot will depend on what you like or want in a grinder. For me, I chose a flat burr. Conical burr are easier to keep clean, but, produce slightly less consistent ground sizes compared to a flat burr, which, when properly maintained, come out impressively uniform. The difference between them is pretty obvious if you take them apart and look at the grinding mechanism itself. When you operate them, the sound they make is different too. Any grinder is going to create sound. They also create "coffee dust" and periodically need to be cleaned. When the beans are being ground, it creates and builds up a bit of static electricity, which, depending on where you live and the time of year, can be evident if you immediately open the bin holding the coffee grounds right after grinding. In fact, it is advisable you don't. Wait about 5 min for the charge to dissipate. Give the machine a slight tap. There are some other tricks you can research and try, but, I haven't found any of them to be super effective. You will need to clean the machine! Mr. Coffee doesn't come right out and say if this machine is a conical burr or a flat burr. I bought one to test it out so I can tell my customers about this particular model. I haven't taken the Mr. Coffee machine apart yet, but, it definitely looks and sounds like a flat burr grinder. As a side note: Other things will effect your at home coffee tasting experience besides grinding freshly roasted coffee. Water quality, temperature, and the type of maker you use all effect flavor. You can filter water or buy it at the store. There are also probes and kits you can buy to test your water at home. Experiment to find the coffee flavor you like best. In my kitchen, we have many type and size coffee makers. I choose based on my particular mood, how much time I have to devote to the coffee making and clean-up process, and of course, how much coffee I need to make! Everyone likes some makers better than others, and, some makers require more set up to make the coffee, clean up or maintenance than others. Some can be set up the night before and you can wake up to the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, who doesn't like that?! For me, nothing is better than drinking the BEST cup of coffee right when I wake up. It sets my mood for the day in the right direction. Whether you want to become the envy of your neighborhood, or just make for yourself and your family the best coffee ever, for the price, this Mr. Coffee grinder is superb and will go a LONG way towards helping you achieve that goal!

                            This product (Mr. Coffee Grinder Model #BVMV-BMH23) worked great for a year and a half then it quit. Of course the Warranty is only good for 12 months.

                              Thought this to replace another that had started spitting grounds out the bottom of it. Hope this one doesn't do the same thing.

                              Not good
                              I have really tried to give this grinder the benefit of the doubt. I have been hand grinding for years and thought I might like the convenience of automatic at a reasonable price. Nope. It turns about 20% of the beans to dust (like wheat flour) at the coarsest setting. Even partially burns it to where you can smell it. I thought it would be a slower rpm grinding process, but it goes at hyper-speed. Back to the manual hand mill for me. I know how that works.

                                motor failed
                                I like this grinder but it did not last. The motor failed after about nine months.

                                    Works great until it stops working.
                                    Given to me as a gift in August 2015. I only ever use it in the month of December when a local coffee shop sells whole beans of their special Christmas blend. December 2017 was the third season to use it, and the grind timer dial no longer works. The machine only runs for three to five seconds before shutting off, and I have to keep pushing the button to complete a grind. Must contain poor-quality electrical components that have failed after very little use.

                                        Feeling the pain!
                                        Like many have mentioned, I bought on of these and it worked great until the hopper broke off. To the store I went and bought another. Now that one won't grind, ARGH! I cleaned it all out to make sure nothing was stuck any where and that all the connections were good. Still won't grind for more than 5 seconds. Not very pleased with this.
