Nice design. Easy to install and adjust to ceiling height. Much lighter weight than expected for a ladder with 375 pounds capacity.

Stout stair, flimsy door
Stair frame appears to be well made, heavy gauge aluminum, ample step depth. Door panel is another story - made from 1/8" masonite riveted thru foam core to ladder frame. The panel is not very flat, just riveted layers (masonite/foam/masonite) with no adhesive between layers. The lower exposed end of the panel is just a single layer of 1/8" masonite, cantilevered beyond the ladder frame. If you were to grab this lower panel edge when opening the stair you could easily break it. You should count on adding a sheet of 1/4" plywood to the lower face (glued to masonite and bolted through to the frame), plus a length of 1x2 along the lower edge. You will also need shallow pockets in the bonded plywood face to accommodate large rivet heads protruding from the panel lower surface. For flush ceiling mount with added panel thickness, raise door 1/4 inch into the framed opening and increase trim gap adjacent to hinge. With these changes, after filling and painting this makes a great door.

As with many things, it takes longer to read the directions but is a fairly simple and straightforward installation.

As a pro installer I have found this new aluminum frame to be a lot more consistent as opposed to the crooked and twisted SYP wood frames. Seating the plastic grommet/spacers through the sharply bored alum holes requires practice & technique. The design on installing the feet is about as good as it gets. The factory installed seal is very much appreciated over the one that had been sent and was expected to be installed into an inconsistent thin kerf in the unstable SYP.(whew!). I would have rated this ladder unit a 5 star except for the thin composite panel. Sometimes the panel is rippled, and or split, where it is attached to the hinge. Also, some folks have a tendency to pull on the flimsy end corners to assist in pulling the unit open. I've replaced old units with broken corners. The spacing between the side rails seems is about 1 inch less than the wooden units. I don't suppose anything could be done about that. A thicker, stronger, panel would make this unit the best choice overall and a solid 5 star rating!.

    Poor Quality
The aluminum frame is ok. But the panel is very thin (1/8”) fiber board and the hinges attached to this board and the ladder are cheap. The packaging was a flimsy cardboard box, no internal support. I should have completely unpacked it at the store because when I got it home and unpacked it had obviously been dropped. The hinges were bent and the panel was broken where the henges attach. I returned the ladder to the store and subsequently ordered a steel ladder at three times the cost.

Ladder was simple to install, 3 of the installation bolts sheared while tightening them down so I had to replace them.

Very nice ladder but difficult to pull down the stairs. The hook that was provided broke off the stick on the first try. It’s also difficult to pull the second section down without it falling. Poor design.

Somewhat flimsy, but adequate structurally. Reasonably straightforward installation process. The insulation panel limits foot purchase on the upper steps. If I did it again, I’d get the non-insulated version.

      Solo Installation
I purchased this to replace an old wooden set of attic stairs. Since I have a winch installed over the center of the opening it was a lot easier to do it as one person than it would have been if I didn't have the winch. Once secured I was able to place the lag bolts. I easily cut the bottom portion with a sawzall and fit the feet that they were flush to the floor. The width of the frame was about 1-1/2" to short for the opening. I took furring strip to one side, and it fastened in nicely.

Ladder is not very easy to use. It has no hydraulics at all. It comes slamming down and it is extremely hard to retract up to close.
