The batteries that come with these units are depleted. Thought I installed them incorrectly but once I put my own batteries in the low battery chirping stopped. These where old lead batteries and yet the box they where shipped in had caution stickers all over it "lithium ion batteries inclosed ground ship only". Wasted their stickers.

So far, so good.
My old unit was going off at all hours and I couldn't figure out why. I didn't want to change my mounting plate from the old one , but decided what's two more holes In the wall. They are all pretty close in size, so hopefully the screw holes will match. With the adapter connects, it was fairly simple to choose which one would work and it's snap on connection was sturdy and not ever going to become loose. I don't know why the makers didn't come up with putting the battery on the outside instead of it being so that you had to remove the unit to change it out, many years ago. So, that's a plus. The one thing is that the power light is kind of dim, and unless you're looking right at it, it's hard to see. My old one had a removable charcoal filter in it, and not sure if this one does. I usually just take one of those canned air and blow it out about once a month. The battery compartment is spring loaded so that's another plus.

Best value IMHO for line powered/battery backup replacement smoke detector
Easy install replacing similar kind originally in house, cheaper than Costco and Amazon by $5 ea. unit. Had two kinds of adapters to connect to house circuitry. Battery door is out front, so it's pull down access, very straight forward. I bought this one after I had trouble trying to use anybody's 10 year battery alarm, especially First Alert which is likely to give false alarms and need replacement in a couple of years as opposed to 10 in my experience. I also could not find a single alarm that had both quick smoke and flame (heat detection) rolled into one. The only dual type's I found included CO2. Why can't somebody make a fire/smoke alarm combined, that works off heat and ionized smoke particles? The wording on most of the brands tried to obfuscate that they were one or the other and not both, that it to say they wanted to leave you the impression they did both.

Love these!
After our power went out several times within 10 minutes, our old smoke detectors would go off at random times and were difficult to silence. We also realized the old ones were expired. I purchased the new ones at Home Depot and installed them myself. I didn't need any new connectors because the old smoke detectors were made by Kidde. I changed the housing on the ceiling without any issues. I replaced five of them in less than an hour. An added plus is that we don't have to take the detector down to change the battery when it's low, whereas on the old ones we did. Just push the battery door and it pops open, change the battery, and push the battery door shut.

Excellent product for the purpose.
I needed to replace my 16-year-old wired smoke alarms (should have done it after ten years) and the original product was no longer available as the company was no longer in business. This product was a perfect replacement and the adapters made the install a snap. I now have fresh smoke alarms, good for another ten years with much better battery access and easier maintenance than the alarms that were replaced. And, because I needed four, shipping was free.

Worst smoke alarm
I bought this about a month ago. This alarm goes off if you light a candle in the house. I absolutely hate this alarm. Every time we make dinner we need to take unhook it, and take the battery out. I’ll never buy Kidde again. Way too expensive for all the hassle. This should be sold at the dollar store not big box stores

Way too sensitive. It sets itself off with just the thought of cooking on the stove. We removed it and will get a different brand.

Hello. It sounds like you will be happier with the 20SAR model 21031482. This alarm will be a lot less affected by steam and heat and humidity from cooking. It is specifically designed to avoid nuisance alarms due to cooking.

Plugged into existing wired system easily. Like the easier access battery chamber. Keep in mind this is just smoke detection- not CO2. Good price for what you get.

The included FireX adapter didn't fit until I removed an extraneous piece of plastic. Bought this because it was close to my old FireX models and the package included adapters. The multi-option mounting bracket also fit the screws from my old detectors. I buy wired instead of battery-only models because they have wired interconnection so if one goes off they all go off. I'll need to see if I encounter the low battery chirping issues others have reported with this model, but so far so good.
