Basic smoke detector works great
This is Kidde Firex simple photoelectric smoke detector. The re-wiring for the new harness is easy for a DYI person and the new harness and battery backup is included in the box. A very minor point that prevents me from saying "everything is included" in the box is that Kidde doesn't supply the wire ties; had to re-use the old ones. This unit is reasonably small and esthetically pleasing. So far after a few weeks has not had any false alarms. I'm very happy with choosing Kidde products!

Intermittant chirping after installation
I bought the contractor pack of 4. The house was cleaned before installing, but two units started chirping due to a low battery soon after - very annoying. Replacing the Kiddie brand batteries with fresh Energizer batteries seemed to fix it, but I'm going to replace them all with new, possibly a different brand, in the near future. Not a good product.

    Hello, Was the original unit going into a false alarm? False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. Because photoelectric alarms can be sensitive to particles in the air, we recommend cleaning the alarm. To clean, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year. Take note of the location for this alarm. Kidde recommends that alarms not be installed near air vents, ceiling fans, or flues. We also recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly discourage having these alarms installed in garages and attics, though Heat Detectors can usually be installed in these locations. Representatives are available to troubleshoot at 1-800-880-6788. We do stand behind our products, and we are happy to figure out what is going on and help resolve this for you.
