Bought in Massachusetts. Made the point a year ago that MA requires photoelectric as opposed to Ionic. There should be a sign near the smokes advising consumers of this fact, Made this point a year ago, after buying 6 of the wrong kind, but nothing! You people really don't care about your customers wasting time and money! Smokes are fine, your stores, not so much!

I got 99 problems and they are ALL this alarm
I moved into a home with these alarms 3 months ago. The home is 4 years old. My first week, one of the alarms decided it's battery was low. Changed it out. That's fine. Took a few days for the red light to stop blinking. Side note: If you're considering using these in a bedroom, there is an ever present green light on the unit, which is bad for sleep quality. Tonight, the same alarm decided to fully go off and then stop after 3 beeps. The blinking red light every 15 seconds indicates it's at it's end of life. Could this happen during the day? Nope.... it's gotta happen in the middle of the night. Btw, if you have a dog, these alarms are super rough on their ears. Mine cries when it goes off. And the hush feature on the other model kidde alarms in the house doesn't work, so good luck getting it to hush so you can have a moment to figure out why the alarms are going off with no smoke present. Because of all of this, I will not be replacing these, starting with the one that is currently blinking every 15 seconds, with the same brand.

I purchased this as a replacement for older Firex hardwired detectors, thinking these would be drop in replacements. However, new subbase, new connector… I could have purchased any other hardwired smoke detectors. Detectors are fine.

Does not include screws in the box.
Now I have to make another trip back to the store. This is very inconvenient for me. Including screws would have been a negligible cost for Kidde.

      Great Product!
I've used these in my home for 20 yrs. They work great. Be sure and replace them every 10 yrs. They don't last forever. If you can get the ones with a ten year battery.

      Junk
I have ten of these in my house, originally installed in 2017. Nothing but problems with them since, they always go off at 3am with false alarms and have had to replace at least 2 a year because they went bad

Firex smoke alarm Model P12040 has been excellent for 10 years.
The new Firex smoke alarm has been working perfect for several days. I have been using the same exact model in my house for 10 years and the 4 units in my house are all connected together.

So far this has been a great smoke detector, and it's Photoelectric rather than the Ionization ones that tend to false alarm or not trigger when needed. We have installed a couple hundred of these in homes over the last few years, and only one has been bad. The one issue I have is that the battery compartment is on the back making it harder to replace the 9v battery when needed.

        Doesn’t work
I ordered 1, and replaced the batteries on Thursday. Last night (Friday), they started going off again. There wasn’t a fire. But they went off 4 times between 6pm-4am for no reason. Do not get these if you want some sleep. Sincerely, a sleep deprived mother this morning.😒

Hello. Replacing the batteries wouldn't have helped. It sounds like you haven't found the alarm setting off all of the others yet and it seems it wasn't the one you replaced. While the alarms are going off, the one setting off all of the others will have a red flashing light every second. It is also the one that if you remove it while all of the alarms are going off, the others will stop while that one will continue to go off. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative.

Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms.

Try cleaning out the alarms. If you have the issue again, find the alarm setting off all of the others and call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can get this resolved for you.
