False Alarms
5 new units installed in march of 2022. False alarms started in July. Clean unit August 7. No apparent dust, bugs or other debris. Will see what happens. Had same problem with Simplisafe, had to throw away.

Hello. If you have interconnected alarms, the first step is finding the initiating unit, as that is the key. Once you know where the issue is happening, it is usually easy to figure out what is causing the alarms to go off. To find the initiating unit, look for one that is flashing RED or GREEN at least once every second while in alarm mode, then follow the reset procedure on that unit. If the alarm stopped on its own before you could find that flashing light, the initiating unit will flash for 1.5 seconds every 10 seconds. Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms. Find the alarm that is setting off all of the other and call us with that alarm in hand so we can figure out what is going on in that location that is causing issues and get this resolved for you.

    Constant False Alarms
Same story as everyone else. Fire department said old smokes were not sufficient and we had to install these. They’ve been in for 6 months and we’ve had 3 different units give false alarms at all hours of the day and night. It’s a blast trying to figure out which unit is angry at 3AM, especially with a newborn baby.

Hello. We apologize for the inconvenience. Finding that unit that is setting off all of the other alarms off is the key. To find the initiating unit, look for one that is flashing RED or GREEN at least once every second while in alarm mode, then follow the reset procedure on that unit. If the alarm stopped on its own before you could find that flashing light, the initiating unit will flash for 1.5 seconds every 10 seconds. If there are no obvious signs of a fire, the alarm should be cleaned before being reinstalled. If this is happening after 6 months, some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean, after disconnecting the alarm and removing any removable battery: hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative. Try cleaning out the alarms and checking the locations. Once you find the alarm setting off all of the others, call us with that alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can get this resolved for you.

      Absolute garbage.......
Constantly going off for no reason........after a year of operation (the battery lasts 10yrs) they went crazy for 2 days every 10 minutes. Followed the manual and cleaned them with compressed air and nothing. Ended up deactivating them and throwing them out. I wish I would have seen the reviews before I bought them.

Hello. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor, yes. Usually cleaning them out very thoroughly with compressed air will clear the alarms. Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manual as well. Call us with the alarms in hand at 1-800-880-6788 so we can figure out what is causing this and how to keep it from happening again and get this resolved for you.
        No! No! No!
I would NOT buy this alarm again on a bet!!! Ibought five, integrated them and installed them throughout the house. After a month they went off due ti some cooking, but even after airing the room, I could not get them to stop going off again every 5 minutes. After a number of tries, I finally found the offeding unit and disabled it. A few months later another failed. I called the manufacturer and they said they wiuld send a replacement. It took 10 weeks to arrive and that unit failed in less than a month. They are junk!

Hello. It sounds like with the first alarm some debris or soot got into the alarm. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. This is a battery back-upped detector, but the battery isn’t replacable. Ours started beeping that it had a low battery in the middle of the night three months after it was installed. Definitely not a 10 year worry-free detector! Ugh.

Hello. A chirp every 30 seconds might not be a low battery. It might be that it lost connection with the other alarms or that one of the diagnostics testing the alarm and the sensors might have been tripped. Call us with the alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 and let us help you figure out what is going on and get this resolved for you.

            numerous false alarms.
County required wired alarms. Electrical inspector would not approve the first ones that our remodeling company installed. Had three false alarms one night in the first month (2, 4 and 5 AM).. Average about one false alarm a month from one of the four installed.. ADT smoke detector about five feet away from one has never given false alarm in three years.

              Wrong unit for my application.
This item was returned because it physically did not fit into the space available for it. There was a large pushed out area on the back of the unit that made it impossible to mount. I returned it to the store and and purchased another Kidde unit that fit fine. I gave this a one star only because it wasn't the right unit for my application. I have no idea how it may work, it was never connected.

Hello. This unit is a hardwired unit that has to be hardwired. That pushed out area on the back of the alarm does not push out far and should have gone into the electrical box. Make sure you are wiring in our hardwired alarms. The batteries on the hardwired alarms are only backups for short term power outages and are not designed to be the main power for the alarms for the full 10 years.

              disappointing - false alarms
first the positive - these were super easy to connect to each other! This is an important feature in my book. If there's a fire in the basement, I want to know if we're sleeping on the 2nd floor. I bought these to replace RF-SMACDC & RF-SM-DC because I had been very happy with the Kidde interconnect system. These were ionization smoke alarms. Now the cons - we didn't even make it 24 hours before having a false alarm. The AC powered detector is in the 2nd floor hallway. My daughter had just taken a steamy shower & after a short time the steam set up the detector. By the time I got a chair to push the silence button, it said "Can't silence too much smoke". So we resorted to blowing a fan on it to make it stop. Then when we tried to reset it, one of the other detectors went off alerting us to carbon monoxide. Clearly the sensors poorly designed. #1 - it was tripped by humidity (of course it says on the box "UP TO 95% relative humidity". Clearly the photoelectric sensors are confused. #2 - it continued to think there was so much smoke it wouldn't let us silence the alarm. #3 - the wiring harness has to fit in the junction box. my ceiling has a shallow junction box, so I had to work to cram everything in there which does not bode well when you have to turn the unit to attach it to the mount. the previous model had a space between the device and the mount. I bought these at Menards yesterday and will be returning them today. I wish I had checked the reviews here before I purchased them. I will be moving back to an ionization alarm and not the photoelectric.

                Terrible Smoke Detectors
We were forced to have these pieces of crap installed throughout our hose when renovating our bathroom (county code). I believe they are possessed since they trigger for no apparent reason and warn of errors at any time of day or night, startling everyone in the house.

Never could get the wireless function to work properly, have 7 devices and at best could only get 4 to connect, in a single level house. I really only wanted them for the basic smoke detector function and that part works fine.

                    Sensitive
Very sensitive to false alarms. Blowing them out with air has fixed the problem on the issue units. Had the user manual told me that kidde recommends I clean these every 6 months, I would have gone with a different product.

                      Hammer Time
I just demolished mine with a hammer after only 9 months. It wouldn’t stop…kept blaring all weekend and the hush button wouldn’t work nor would the disable/deactivation option. But! A hammer sure did. Now I need to convince my dogs that everything's fine.

Hello. If there are no obvious signs of a fire, the alarm should be cleaned before being reinstalled. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. Normally, to clean after disconnecting the alarm, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We would recommend cleaning out your alarms every 6 months to a year. Using a hammer on an alarm voids the warranty but we understand the issue of the alarms going off and needing them to stop. At this stage, call us with the alarm in hand at 1-800-880-6788 and let us see what one-time exceptions we can make. Refer to this review and my response. In the future, the alarm can be deactivated on the back by pushing in the area that says break tab and then turning the screwslot on the back to permanently deactivate.

3 Units Faulted Within a Year and Half
Replaced six smoke detectors when we bought our house. A month in one consistently went into the Amber “fault” mode. Tried resetting and it went off every day. Bought another to replace the faulty one. Same thing happened again a few months later, replaced that one as well. Last night - year after the last failure another went. Throwing them all out today. Would be nice if the kill switch on the back you didnt need a screwdriver for in the middle of the night when these things fault and keep setting off everything in the house every 30 seconds until you can get to one.
