worked for about 1 year, 9 months
I thought these units were great when I first got them. They were easy to install and attractive looking on the ceiling compared to other brands and models. But… The last four days have been a hellscape of very little sleep. This system keeps issuing false alarms in the middle of the night. I called and spoke to kidde, the manufacturer, and they had me "clean them out" by blowing a hairdryer on cold all around the perimeter and said that the alarm would not go off falsely anymore. That night it went off at both 1 AM and 2:40 AM. You cannot remove the batteries and the only off switch is a "permanent" off switch. There is no way to stop the sound unless you essentially destroy the unit. If I had known that this would happen, I never would've purchased these. I spent a lot of time running electrical cables through the house during a bathroom remodel to install a AC powered system, so that I wouldn't have to deal with chirping and battery replacement, but at least with the cheaper smoke detectors, if they are being problematic, I can just remove the batteries and get a good night's sleep. The first night they went off, I was worried that there was some sort of electrical fire in the wall or some thing that I could not find and I actually called the fire department. What a waste of time, resources, and sleep. Do not purchase these units.

Product was returned because I did not realized I had some on hand, otherwise The Home Depot seem to carry most products for what I’m looking for.

Too soon for a review. Let’s review in 2-3 years from now. Hope they really stand for the 10 year flawless trouble. Easy installation though. Nice product. Just upgraded my (same brand) older detectors.

Daily false alarm: I thought I was the only one
We moved into a house with these alarms pre-installed. Now it goes off several times a night. The product is dangerous, if we have to take them down (unplug) so we can get good nights sleep. Do not buy this alarm. Also, the company needs to make an acknowledge that either the product design or the product manufacturing effecting some lots were faulty. Our kids and family are done. We are replacing the product.

          Way too complicated
I am a fire inspector. I came across these installed in an apartment after Fed law required interconnected, voice alarms. The first one I tested did not activate, and it went into a search mode looking for other alarms. It did not find the one in the next bedroom. I had to contact the manager to find out how to get it to work. I have no confidence that it would work if I can't test it. Had others in the complex that did the same thing. Way too complex for tenants who aren't going to have the owners manual, and who reads them anyway. A life safety device should not be this complicated.

            bad purchase
The alarm is the worst I have ever purchased numerous failures less than 2 years and have replaced 3 they do not last false alarms, difficult to stop alarm which is very loud and continuous. I had prior alarms 10 years with one failure. I had to remove all and discard them. DO NOT BUY

Hello. If you have issues with our alarms again, please call us at 1-800-880-6788 with the alarms in hand before you dispose of them. We do stand behind our products and we are happy to troubleshoot and figure out what is going on and get an issue resolved. It sounds like some dust or debris or an insect got into the smoke chamber of one of the alarms and the alarm mistook the debris for smoke. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean the alarm, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). We recommend cleaning out all of your smoke alarms at least every 6 months to a year and at this point we would recommend cleaning out all of your other alarms as well as a preventative. If you have interconnected alarms, the first step is finding the initiating unit, as that is the key. See the owner's manual. Some of your alarms may be in one the locations to avoid listed in the owner's manuals. This would especially include alarms being installed within 3 ft (.9m) of a forced air supply ducts used for heating or cooling, ceiling or whole house ventilating fans, or other high air flow areas. We recommend that alarms not be installed near vents, flues, chimneys, or fans. We recommend that alarms not be installed near doors or windows near areas directly exposed to the weather. We strongly recommend not to install these alarms in garages, attics, and crawl spaces as you will get temperatures, dust, insects, and chemicals that can cause nuisance alarms. if you still have the old alarms, call us with those alarms in hand at 1-800-880-6788.

              Nightmare with false alarms!!
Easy to install, looks great until the false alarms start!! Weather is it 2 AM or PM, this has become a nightmare. I installed these my self. They looked awesome, simple to operate butWOW what a nightmare! I will be replacing them all with an alternative system. Don’t know yet, but definitely will get rid of these.

Hello. Before you replace the alarm, please call us at 1-800-880-6788 with the offending alarm in hand. We do stand behind our products and we are happy to troubleshoot and figure out what is going on and get an issue resolved. It sounds like some dust or debris or an insect got into the smoke chamber of one of the alarms and the alarm mistook the debris for smoke. If you have interconnected alarms, the first step is finding the initiating unit, as that is the key. Once you know where the issue is happening, it is usually easy to figure out what is causing the alarms to go off. To find the initiating unit, look for one that is flashing RED or GREEN at least once every second while in alarm mode, then follow the reset procedure on that unit. If the alarm stopped on its own before you could find that flashing light, the initiating unit will flash for 1.5 seconds every 10 seconds. If there are no obvious signs of a fire, the alarm should be cleaned before being reinstalled. False alarms are most commonly caused by something interfering with the sensor. To clean, hold the unit by its edge and thoroughly blow through the gap on the side of the unit with compressed air (like keyboard cleaner). Absolutely horrible!
I am sorry, but these alarms are less then 3 months old and they are absolutely horrible. The seller was forced to replace the existing system with these little possessed demons due to local codes. We've blown them out, just like suggested. They have to be placed in certain locations due to the state's code. Now we have to install a secondary system so our tenants will have working alarms and then we can replace the rest of them in the house. As new homeowners, this is an expense we shouldn't have!

                  False alarms.
Every time it is a random unit going off in the middle of the night. Replaced a few at first, but it won’t stop. Had them required to their own circuit even, reduced it, but no luck. These alarms seem to be terrible after a year of ownership.

What a nightmare of an alarm system
Codes forced us to upgrade when we were having some other electrical work done and the inspector came. Said we had to have interconnected smoke alarms. This is what our electrician installed and we are so regretful. My husband is a 100% disabled veteran with PTSD from serving as an infantry combat medic. Having all of these alarms go off for no apparent at 2AM is not good. We have high ceilings so we were having to drag a ladder in from outside. Very stressful to be woken in this manner. We are going to disconnect them and go back to the old kind. This is the second time it has happened in a few months. Can't live like this.

                          Bought 12
We installed 12 of the wirefree alarms, tired of replacing batteries in the old alarms. We have not had goodluck. They seem to go off in the middle of the night quite often, for know reason, scaring us and our pets. We've had to dismantle them scared to go back to sleep and have ended up throwing each one away as it goes off.

                            Hateful worthless junk
Endless false alarms, fitted for fire regulations so networked, in every bedroom and hallway. Replaced every unit, same deal. Just to get some sleep you have to disconnect them and then they're worthless. Utterly outrageous that this product can be sold.
