The installation of this fan is tricky. There is a lot of bulk to fit into the housing and there is no guidance as to where to put the remote unit. After it was installed, it ran well for a couple of days, then we heard a loud pop. The remote unit had overheated the unit and causing the fan to smell like something was burning and causing a scraping/grinding sound. We later removed the remote unit from the housing and hard wired the fan to see if it worked. It works fine, except you can't turn the light off or change the fan speed at all (you have to do this using the remote). We are trying to get a replacement remote control unit (since it should be under warranty) so that the fan can be fully functional again. We like the look of the fan and the air flow is great. I think that we just got a bum remote unit.

After getting through the maze of online ordering from Home Depot - easy to order, with good follow-up from HD. Arrived quickly, easily installed, looks good and works fine.

I have installed quite a few fans of different makes during the past 10 years and hardly needed installation guidance. This one is a challenge. Where to put the receiver box ? It is not mentioned in the installation instruction. It also surprised me, that this fan only works on remote control but not manually. So while this fan looks good, so far it is not working. I had a professional electrician on it and after 3 hours, he gave up and left for the weekend. What is frustrating is the fact, that the installation guide is written by a technical person for whom it is probably easy - well except for my electrician - . As for myself, I do not recommend the fan. Even though it looks good and probably performs well, I am changing it for another model.

Its puts out good amount of light and the air circulation is excellent!

I have installed dozens of ceiling fans but this was the first with a remote. The instructions were extremely vague about the where and how to install the receiver. In the end I was unable to install the receiver until I removed the motor from the downshaft, allowing me to wedge it into the bracket above the downshaft. Still not sure if it is correct, but it works. The only other complaint would be the fact that my electrical outlet has separate wiring and switches for fan and light. No option to bypass remote and use my setup. If I had known that before purchasing I may have made a different decision. Good fan for someone with only 1 switch.

Looks expensive yet affordable. Simple to install. With all instructions, read then thoroughly first, then again as you do the installation. It's clear that the remote needs to be installed in the canopy if you do this, since reference appears near the end of the instructions! Light source is low. More accent than utilitarian. Also, the glass globe has a yellow cast so the room will take on different feel. Also, the fan can be easily flush mounted if you don't have much ceiling height. I will say the instructions completely left this out and that may be the only real complaint. (It's pretty self explanatory though. You'll end up with a short down rod and small canopy you won't need,).

Wanted a contemporary ceiling fan with remote...opened the box and was pleasantly surprised with the quality...saw extra instructions and separate package for the remote so knew it was an "add on" but was cleverly labelled for connections and was already stripped ready for the supplied connectors...the second small package I did not like and no one mentioned it being an issue...a balancing kit...I will concede...generally anything with mass that rotates needs to be balanced...car tires/rims...turbine engines...car engines etc...but a ceiling fan ? none of my other ones have this problem on the indoor or outdoor ones....figured it would not be needed thinking they took the time to balance the blades during manufacturing.......all hooked up nicely...remote squeezes into the right place...turn it on...vibrated badly on mid and high speeds...open up the balancing kit....took about 10 minutes to balance....2 small weights come with it...ended up with one on one blade...one on another at about the same distance away from the motor...first night about 3 in the morning with it on the highest speed... what happens ?...one of the weights lets go and cracks into the wall ..wife and I bolt upright....luckily I figured out what it was right away and didn't have to pull the Magnum out.... taped them back in place and have been fine since...it is close to the bed so pushes enough air and lite is bright enough..cubic feet of air it advertises pushing surprised me ( can't be that much )....definitely not good for a large room high up..would I buy another one , yes....looks great and remote works well....fairly quiet as well...and decent quality other than balancing....others can do this...why not this model ??

i really like the modern look. easy to install, quiet, and moves air quite nicely in a room about 18x18. The light is sufficient as well. It says comes with reversible blades, but they were black on both sides

This fan is a wonderful addition to our morning room/vaulted ceiling. Looks like we paid more than we did & works wonderfully. I am a very frugal shopper & usually have doubts purchasing larger items, as I did with this fan. Was relieved to be extremely happy with it. Also was doubting the fact that a 3-blade fan (instead of 4) would make a difference in the air circulation, but it did not. That puppy makes a room much cooler, quickly, even on low speed. The only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5 was for the awful instructions on the product, as we've encountered before with Hampton Bay.

Looks great, works well, came with reomote which made it a very good value

We are totally in love with this fan. We replaced this with one in our bedroom. its very quite and looks are awesome. Thinking of buying another one. manual is kind of confusing but once the fan was up, its been almost 1 year and works great.

Read some of the lesser rated reviews and was surprised. We bought two of these fans for our bedroom and kitchen. Installed both in less than an hour and had NO problems with the remote sensor, codes, etc. Looks and performs great. Buying another on this week for another bedroom.

Had two of these installed on 36" downrods in the great room. They move the air well, don't wobble and run very quietly plus they look, well, great. The lights are weak but we don't use them as a primary light source. I was considering much pricier fans but am glad I took a chance on these. Can't comment on the installation instructions but the electrician didn't have any trouble. A good value.

Stick the remote receiver between the installation plate and the fan down rod, it should slide in after moving the wires around a bit. Very poor quality air circulation and light even if you replace the lamps with 100W bulbs. Better spend your money on something else. Box suggest use with a large room - I installed in in a room of 12x12 and I am not happy with the air circulation or the light.

My poor husband who has installed many a ceiling fan, had such a hard time with this. The instructions are awful. The remote transmitter is supposed to fit somewhere in the ball of wires and the small silver dome.... but the instructions do not explain how to do that. After about 5 1/2 hours and researching product reviews, he ended up tucking all of the wires as far into the ceiling as possible and shimmying it between the plate and the ball of the fan. Currently, it is all set up and connected properly... including typing in some code (????) and it is not working. We have wasted our entire day on this, and everything is done correctly. It seems we may have a faulty fan? I have heard that Hampton Bay is awful, but I did not know it would be this bad. I will tell everyone I know to stay away from Hampton Bay.

very good addition at my living room, i would recommend this product

Fan is gorgeous and quiet, the light is perfect for the breakfast area and it moves the air gently without blowing everything off the table. However, like other reviewers, we had trouble with the instructions (we have installed several fans over the years and are not novices). They are very poorly printed, small type and diagrams and not very clear - my husband did not see the part about installing the controller until the installation was complete and then we had to take it apart and try to insert the controller - what a pain. 3 hours total to install, but we are happy now. If you have never installed a fan before, don't start with this one!

This fan works quitely and cools a large room. The light fixture gives out plenty of light. A wall switch with a dimmer may be needed in certain Apps in Lieu of the remote that comes with it. I am using that remote and everything is great for me. Installation was a breeze, well designed unit. Plenty of space in the dome for wires and remote. If you have trouble with this, you shouldn't be installing ceiling fans.

We just purchased the Hampton Bay Trieste fan and it took 3 hours to install, only to find out that the remote control needed to be installed during the wire hookup (which was not at all mentioned in the instructions). Only at the end of the blade and light installment did we find out that the remote wires needed to be installed... which meant that we had to work around the blades and pull the fan from the ceiling... again. My husband has installed many fans and light fixtures, but this one was the worst. The fan looks great and works great, but installation was a pain. The other problem is that you can only work the light and fan by remote control, which may be a problem in the future as this fan was installed in our 13 year-old son's room (I already see losing the remote).

Previously my son had a very nice Hampton Bay fan in his room. After a few years a problem developed. We were pleasantly surprised when Hampton Bay and Home Depot stood by the warranty and ended up replacing the fan. This fan (same price) is much quieter, more stable and cools better. The look is sharp and it works well. No problems were encountered with the installation. The remote is a wonderful bonus. The only thing that takes away from giving it a 5 is the lighting output. The maximum wattage is 120 (60 watts for each of the two bulbs) which isn't very bright. My son has two lamps in his room which provide plenty of light; but, without the additional light source in the room, the lighting from the fan alone would be insufficient for someone who does a lot of reading or other work requiring more substantial illumination, i.e., needlepoint, models, painting, craftwork, etc. That being said, my son and I are both very pleased with this purchase.

The fan looks fantastic, is quiet and cools my living room - a 20'x14' room with 11' ceilings - very well. The instructions are unnecessarily tedious, hence the 4 stars. Quite a frustrating installation experience. NOTE: Save yourself some time. The only way to install the remote receiver in the fan base is to slide it between the mounting plate (ceiling) and above the hanging ball. Wrap the wires accordingly as you install the fan.

The fan looks great and keeps my living room cool. I was originally skeptical about whether or not the fan would cool (having only 3 blades) the room down but to my satisfaction it does. The instructions are terrible and installation was on the difficult side. If you can get past the installation you will have a good fan to enjoy.

I'm not pleased with this fan. I love the look. It ends there. 1. The instructions are rather weak. They don't give any hints of how to place the receiver in the housing of the fan. I shimmied mine above the ball and the socket (after the third time I wired it). 2. Mine had rust on one of the screws when I opened the box 3. The screws are all very weak metal. The one that was rusted was also "stuck" on the fan. I stripped the phillip's head trying to remove it. I stripped it even worse trying to put it back on. Going back to the receiver - the box is far too large. It needs to be smaller or they need to create a specific place for it and mention it in the manual. I over looked this when purchasing - but you MUST use the remote to use this fan. There are no controls to manually turn on/off the fan. It adds to the sleek look - but it would have been nice if it were optional. It does look very nice (if this is your style) - but I have no plans on purchasing another Hampton Bay product if I can help it.

I love this fan. Its actually really cool, as in cold. I was skeptical because it only has 3 blades but in my 14x14 room it can make the room feel like its freezing if you turn it on when the air conditioning is on. If the air conditioning is off and you put it on hight it'll probably keep the room at 75 during summer and I live in south florida so thats unbelievable. Its actually cooler than any other fan I've been under. Plus aesthetically...its beautiful very sleek, very simple design, and very nice looking. It does look a little stupid and plain in the store amongst all the other traditional fans, but, it really doesn't once you install it everyone walks in my room and go nice fan and I'm like really thats all you noticed? :)
