I would recommend this product, but you do have to be patient and spend extra care during install. I’ve installed probably a dozen light/fans and this was the hardest for 2 reasons. 1. The instructions just aren’t very thorough, pictures/diagrams are used sparingly and not wisely utilized – for example there are diagrams for some of the very easy steps, but no diagrams (or combination diagrams) for more complicated aspects. 2. As others have mentioned, the placement of the receiver for the remote. It is so tight to squeeze it all in to the tiny base alongside the wiring – you really don’t want to have to put stress on electrical wires, but really you’re forced to to install this. Either the receiver needs to be smaller, or the base needs to be bigger – and again, there’s no diagram to show the best placement for it. The light is fairly dim, and if it were to be the sole light source to a room that needed a bright light, you should reconsider. It may take an extra 30 minutes longer to install then other light/fans, but certainly not out of the realm of someone moderately handy. It functions well, and if the look suits your style, I would recommend it to others.

I first bought this fan about 9 months ago. It has wobbled ever since I installed it, and I tried all sorts of things to get it to stop. We lived with it for a while until I finally got fed up with the wobbling. Luckily, I was able to bring it in to Home Depot and exchange it. No receipt needed. I weighed the blades on the first one, and they were 403, 405, and 408 grams. Way off! Even with the blades removed, the motor would wobble on it's own. It was just out of whack. The new one is better, with all the blades being within 1 gram of each other. It's rock solid, even on high. I was able to wire it so that a wall switch controls the light (bypasses the remote), and the remote controls the fan (also connected to it's own wall switch). If you want to do this, it's handy to know that the white Neutral wire going through the remote receiver is always active, so you can turn the light on even if the fan is off, etc. Also, the second one that we got was obviously a returned unit that was inspected and repackaged. There are all sorts of indications that the fan had been installed before. For instance, all of the wires looked like they had been in wire nuts before. Also, one of the blades has a mark on it, like a roman numeral. The first fan we had had a warped blade, and so does the second fan. I was worried the warped blade would cause some wobble, but luckily it doesn't. I think Hampton Bay needs to increase the quality of their blades for this fan.

We bought two of these for adjoining rooms. They look very sleek and stylish, especially for their low price. The only complaint I have is that one of the fan's power output isn't as high as the other. I'm not sure if this is an installment issue on our part or the internal wiring of the fan. But it's not bad enough to take it down and return it. Overall, love them!

This is a easy to install and is a great looking fan

I installed it today. I mounted it flush as I don't like it to hang down as far. It worked, there was no rubber washer to put between the fan and the mount, so I just did it anyway. The fan looks great and moves good air at medium and high speed. Low speed it is hard to tell the air is moving, but I am sure on a cool day you could. I will probably switch out the bulb's to a LED type for more light, and I am not a fan of CFL anyway. Like one reviewer said I was surprised no battery for the remote, and a 9 volt on top of that, luckily I just happened to have one. The remote is pretty good sized, reminds me of the remotes back in the 70's for a TV. It was very hard to stuff the receiver and the wires in the housing on the ceiling. With today's technology I figured it could be a little smaller, both the receiver and the remote. Overall I am happy about would by this fan again.

I have purchased 2 of these fans to replace two older fans that just did NOT move enough air. These new fans are clean looking and function well. They come with 2 CF bulbs which give plenty of light. Just make sure you give each fan a different code for the remote. The signal does travel quite a distance.

The fan it's very nice and quiet. The remote is a nice feature. The rod is short so think about that if you have high ceilings. I am thinking about replacing few other in my home with the same fan. I love it!

got it for a great price- so the value is high. The blades are pretty roughly shaped on the edges; I sanded and painted mine white anyway. no dimming feature really bummed us out, so we bypassed the factory remote and installed a Lutron 7 position fan speed and dimmer. It works pretty well. Biggest problem- the light is not bright enough! 2 60w CFL just don't cut it above our dining table

I purchased this online for less than $100, shipped. It's modern, attractive and works well. It took a handyman roughly 45-60 minutes to install. Hey did not use the downrod and it worked just fine. I definitely prefer the Cassablanca fan in my master bedroom; however, would recommend this at this price. Hire someone if you are a novice. It's worth the extra $50. A few cons to this: (1) Installer really had to maneuver the remote control box/wires to stuff everything into ceiling. (2) I found it very interesting that this comes with two light bulbs but not the 9-volt battery for the remote. (3) The two 14w CFLs included were much too dim so I installed 2 23w CFLs and was able to put the globe on. I didn't think the larger bulbs would work but they do. (4) The fan is reversible; however, the switch is not on the remote. It is on the top of the fan motor and super inconvenient to get to.

I found this fan at our local store to replace a failing fan in our main family room. We loved the updated modern look of it. I read a lot of the reviews on the website before I bought it, and many people seemed concerned with the ease of installation as well as the remote-only operation. Installation: This fan was simple to install. I've installed quite a few fans, but I'm not a 'pro' or anything. You just need to take your time and make sure you have all the parts on the stem in the correct order. I did it at home by myself with a 2- and 5-year-old running around, so you should be able to as well under likely much less distracting circumstances. Remote-only operation: It's true, it doesn't come with your traditional chains to change the speed or lighting - but - for remote operation it comes with the same remote kit you'd buy to add-on to any fan. What this means is that if you already have wall controls that are more than just your basic switch (e.g. a dimmer for light control, and a multi-switch for fan speed control) you can wire this fan up to your roof just like your old fan and skip the remote entirely. If you only have one switch, don't assume you can just run fan controls from the wall. Unless your fan wiring is 3-wire you'll need to use the included remote control. If all else fails, consult a electrician. I found the remote receiver a bit bulky anyways so for now I put it in a drawer to install on a future fan (maybe the one in our bedroom). The only hitch on all this is that the included bulbs are fluorescent so you'll need to find bulbs that both fit in the smaller confined space, and support dimmer switches. Lighting: The included bulbs are a harsh color. I'll likely swap them out with something a bit warmer so I don't feel like I'm under harsh fluorescent lighting (even though that's what it is). Summary: It's nice to have a fan that goes higher than 'low' speed again. This one was a great find and we're happy with it.

I am satisfied with the performance of the fan. It provides more air flow at a lower speed than my old unit. While tricky to install everything does assemble per the instructions including the remote receiver inside the ceiling canopy. The only fault is dim lighting. It is very handsome with a modern appearance.

I had an 8.5' ceiling that I was installing this fan, and an 11" length as stated in the specification was as short as I could find (even "Hugger" fans aren't any closer). An 18" fan hangs down too far. May be able to use a 3" rod instead of the 6", however, it might make installation impossible. The mounting bracket for this fan is impossible. Other reviews are correct. There is absolutely no way to install the controller box, and stuff all your wires back into the junction box. Bad design!!

I am very pleased with this purchase. We wanted something "different" for our bedroom. We have a 1917 Craftsman Bungalow and needed it to fit in with the style. While most would find this contemporary, its clean lines and finishes compliment our decor wonderfully. Its installation was easy and it operates fine. Only real complaint is the size of the remote; almost as big as an "antique" cell phone. Advice in installation: remember to replace any wall dimmers with a regular switch or you will have problems.

I purchased this fan to go in my man cave to replace the same size fan. Installation was fairly easy other than the remote sensor directions are poor, but I already knew that from reviews I had read. The only real downfall is that I had two switches on the wall (one for light and one for fan), but only able to use one of them, so you have to use the remote. The fan looks great, balanced easily, and puts off plenty of air for a 14x14 room. Good fan for the price.

The box indicates this fan can be flush mounted. HOWEVER the instructions in the box do not cover flush mounting. The manufacturer web-site does not cover flush mounting. The HD web-site does not cover flush mounting. It is a lovely fan and if you must have THIS fan, be prepared to hire an expert to install a flush mount. I will be returning it.

Great looking and well built. I like the remote but what happens when I loose the remote or the batteries in the remote go bad? There are no switches on the fan other than the direction switch. Had I know that I had to depend on the remote I would have bought a different fan.

I purchased several of these fans to update the look of my home. Installation was easier than expected. The included remote is a great feature. I would have given this product 5 stars, but the first one that I purchased had the fan blade assembly machined incorrectly with the mounting holes off center, and there was no way to adjust them. After I returned the item, the next few that I purchased were made correctly. I would recommend checking to make sure that the blades match up to the holes before starting installation on this product.

Almost perfect ceiling fan. Design and color is exactly what I am looking for. Quality is fine, function with a remote is a plus specially for a single switch (older home w/o the separate switch for fan and light control switch). Two energy saving CFL included. If you have a high ceiling you have to purchase the separate rod. The rod included is only about 8 inches long. I used my old rod. Good thing it is a fit.

It was easy to assemble if you do read the manual instructions carefully, in whole it is great!

This fan is advertised as having Cherry/ Black blades which they do not have. That was the whole reason for buying this product because I wanted the Cherry color showing. I hired someone to install and did not know that these did not have the Cherry color until after it was installed or I would have returned. They are Black on both sides and when it is turned on high it wobbles and does not seem balanced.

The online description stated that one side of the blades on this fan were "medium cherry" and one side were black. This is not true. Both sides of the blades are black and did not work with my colors. So, I returned to the store.

The only possible issue is there is no fan speed switch on the unit. It looks like they added the remote to address this. I use fans on "high" only, so I wired it direct and chucked the remote assembly. If you want the fan speed to be adjustable, be prepared to wire and use the remote control.

I don't know what other reviewers were having problems with as it took my husband and I 30 minutes to install this fan. I would recommend that Hampton Bay include the instructions for where the remote wiring goes inside the fan, though, it was easy enough for us to figure out. It goes between the black bracket and the base of the fan at the ceiling connection for anyone who will purchase this in the future. It was obvious it needed to go there as it was a perfect fit. The fan is insanely quiet, even on its highest setting. We didn't need to use balancers as it was perfect upon install. Purchase a 9volt battery for your remote and you're good to go! Though later on I believe we'll be purchasing a wall switch for it since the remote holster isn't the best and the remote itself is ugly.

This is a great product and it looks more modern than the display picture. We installed 4 fans in 4 different rooms and they are all working very well. The only issue which is my fault for the selection is that it doesn't give much light into the room with only two light bulbs. I should have purchased something with 4 light bulbs.

I installed this fan after having never installed one. It went up in 30-45 minutes, as I was doing it alone. I've since installed other fans and this is by far the easiest. The glass can be fragile. Be warned. I broke the first one. The wiring is easy and lines up exactly as it should. Read the instructions first. I bought this about a year ago, maybe 13 months. It has been a great fan. Easily cools a 15X12 room. My only issue is after a year of using this fan, heavily, it seems it has slowed a little in comparison to other in the house on high. High now feels like medium. However it's more or less been on high for a year straight, or anytime i'm in my room. Well worth the money. Don't forget READ INSTRUCTIONS FIRST. :)
