Assembly took about 15-20 minutes. Adjusted as per direction with tines 1/2" off ground. Tried it out, tines didn't even touch thatch. Threw 2 cinder blocks on it, now works great. Have to bungee blocks onto tray. Will continue to play with height adjustment so maybe I can just run 1 block. A lawn sweeper is a great addition to pick up all the thatch and debris it pulls up. No more raking.

Needs to be improved
This is not a big deal, but it needs to have some way to rise the deck for when you run across pavement

Works
Seems to work. Set height of tines to 1/2" as per direction, tried it out. The tines didn't even come close to dethatching. Added 2 cinder blocks on the top, it started working fine, but had to get creative with bungee cords as there are no holes or hooks for the bungee. Might need to lower the height to 1/4". One of the 2" carriage bolts on the hitch end broke while tightening, and didn't even tighten that hard so will need to run to hardware store. Didn't read description fully I guess, thought it had adjustable wheel height like the aerator, raise it up to move, lower it to work. I will continue to adjust height so cinder blocks are not needed, hopefully.

Good quality and easy to put together
I purchased this product to pull behind my older John Deere mower. I used once so far and it gathered up thatch and sticks very well.I’m a 68 yr woman and was proud I put it together by myself. The only thing I had trouble with was my John Deere little hitch is too low to balance the dethatcher. So I purchased a three way hitch and I am going to see if it helps balance it. I m excited to use it on my half acre.

You Cant Go Wrong With Brinly!
I have previously owned this same detacher 42 in model for 10 years. It was very durable and did an excellent job removing dead , matted down grass from my lawn. With the purchase of a new house with a larger lawn, I upgraded to the 48 in model. I placed a cinder block on both ends to provide the appropriate downforce and it made quick work of a large area. This dethatcher came with all of the needed parts and was easy to assemble. It has all of the necessary adjustments to attach to any lawn tractor hitch.

Finally got to use my Dethatcher. Easy assembly, well made, and durable. Dethatched 24000 sq. Ft. No issues. Holds up to three standard 8 inch blocks.

Works great, not a hard assembly - though when I watched the video afterwards (I think it's a "guy" thing) I smacked my forehead a couple times. Watch it first.

Works fairly well, could be better!
Bought this to help scratch the surface and to help thin out thatch and it works well for that! The one thing I don’t like is the design of how the well work. This unit is very hard and time consuming to adjust to ground height!

Great product.
The Brinly-Hardy Tow Behind Dethatcher works great as long as you do the following two or three things. Add three stones such as retaining wall block (such as for building a fire pit). They are the perfect size and weight. Use three heavy duty bungee cords to secure them in place. Optional: I have rolls of ribbed rubber (such as would go on the floor of a rental van) I cut three pieces to size to place under the stone. This prevents scratching the paint finish of the de-thatcher. Additionally, assembly takes some time but it is very easy. Follow the instructions for leveling the unit before final tightening of hardware. I used this tool hitched to the back of my zero turn mower. I was amazed at how much thatch was pulled out of my lawn (about 2 acres). Very little green grass was pulled out. I stopped frequently to clear out the tines. Afterward I used my leaf blower to clean up the entire lawn. The final pile of thatch was huge. I would say it could have easily filled the cargo bay of 4 pick-up trucks. Next is over seeding and fertilizer. Money well spent. I plan on using the de-thatcher every two years going forward. Thumbs up!

Works well.
Works well. Don't forget to install lock washers on wheel axles that are included in the parts package but not listed in the assembly instructions.

Works okay
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It works well, as advertised, I wish I ordered the one with height adjustment as I need to go over concrete often.

I like it
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great for a small yard home owner. ~ 1acre. Not an industrial / commercial grade. Having no wheels is not a problem since it is light enough without the weights.

Good piece of lawn equipment everyone needs
Before retirement I never had time or ambition to tackle lawn chores that everyone needs to constantly consider. Now time is a little more abundant and I chose this 48 inch dethatcher to tow behind my 52 inch John Deere lawn tractor and without attaching extra weight on top of this attachment, it brought up years of dead grass and gave the soil more air to breathe in just one pass. Looking forward to more use in the near future

Solid Construction but moderate design
Solid steel but the design does does not allow the placement of weights easily that would minimize the bounce and sway

two design prolbems
I bought it last month, and realized that it does not have disengage handle, also does not allow extra weight. It’s very bizarre that the 48 inch was designed differently from the 40 inch…..

    Almost 5 stars
End result is very good, but gave it 4 stars for the following reasons: no instructions came in the box, but was able to find online from Brinly website. Instructions were almost correct in the sense that it incorrectly identified the bolts and nuts to hand tighten now but would be tightened later for adjustment (common sense rectified the issue). Operationally it works great.

Overall this is a good product. The only drawback is adjusting the tynes. You need to adjust with wrenches and not a lever wheich means you must get off of the tractor to adjust each time.
