A: There are no other openings other than the vents, lid and charcoal drawer. Hope this helps. You might want to take the grill 0ff the legs and seal your grill in a large plastic garbage bag until you exterminate your rat problem. Good luck to you.
A: there is exhaust slits, they can be closed and are not large enough for a rat to get into.
A: NO ! HOWEVER YOU WILL WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR VENT OPENINGS STAY FAIRLY SNUG, BUT TOO TIGHT. RATS ARE VERY SMART ANIMALS.
A: None that I've found. The vents close and if you tighten the bolts, should stay closed. The lid can be tied down, if you need to, but it's relatively heavy.
A: Good Afternoon, There is no opening in the patio pro for a rat to access as long as you close both the dampers and the ash drawer it should remain completely rodent-free. If we can be of any further assistance, please don't hesitate to call our Customer Service Center at 912-638-4724, email Service@chargriller.com or visit our SUPPORT link at Chargriller.com. Thank you!
A: Yes. Just control the air vents .
A: Good morning. Yes the Patio Pro can be use as a smoker. The side firebox will not fit on the Patio Pro but you could smoke a small amount of food. Use a minimal amount of charcoal and keep it on one side for the fire grate. You can add some wood chips that have been soaked for several hours for flavor. Put the food on the cooking grate opposite the charcoal. For smoking you want low and slow and with a little practice this method will work. Thank you.
A: Yes, it can be used as a smoker. However, this model has a very limited capacity and (I believe) adding a thermometer is essential above the meat side of the unit. It will take some practice, but it would be possible to smoke a small amount of items...just watch your temperature very closely.
A: Not really. This style of grill is excellent for cooking steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. A true smoker cooks at a much lower controlled heat. Good luck & happy grilling.
A: No. It is too small for a smoker. You can add wood chips to get the smoke flavor. We attached ours to the back of our RV and it works great.
A: Go on the website for char griller and look in replacement parts: https://www.chargriller.com/collections/parts/ I'm sure you'll find what you need there
A: So it’s rusted! Wire brush it and then use cooking oil spray after each use . It will then last. Care is the key . Iron rusts.
A: Do not wash the grate, do not allow the grate to get so hot it burns off the seasoned coating. This coating provides a not stick surface. Keep the grate oiled, I prefer peanut oil, as it is a higher heat oil, which provides a better flavor than most lighter vegetable oils like canola oil. Olive oil also works well, lard is the best animal fat, although you can use bacon grease too. If your grate is dirty, bring the grate to temp and brush with a wire brush, then re-coat with oil. If you feel the need to wash the grate, then put it back on the fire to dry, and coat with oil before storing. Rust will taint the flavor of your food, so remove all of the rust you can before grilling. Cast Iron is one of the best cooking surfaces you can use, when properly cared for. You want gourmet cooking use a good charcoal and keep your grate seasoned.
A: Desperado Why buy?? just go in line and use same process to clean and restore cast iron skillet . IMHO
A: Please call Char-Griller's Customer Service at (912)-638-4724 or visit WWW.CharGriller.Com, for the cheaper shipping option! Thank you.
A: Terrific grill . Assembled myself in an hour. Being cast iron keep it well oiled with veggie oil
A: It should not be necessary to purchase another set of cooking grates. Just scrub off the rust and re-season it with oil or animal fat as outlined in the instructions. It is much easier than you think. Otherwise, you can purchase another pair of grates directly from Char-griller.
A: If cast iron just scrape and pre-season like normal cast iron cookware.
A: I assembled it with my grandson it took us a couple hours it wasn't really hard it was just holding the parts together that made it a little tedious but didn't take that long to put together and it's a dream I really enjoy it.
A: No! However, the smoker (side box) can be purchased and is designed to be an easy ,add on attachment.
A: Unfortunately not. The Side Fire Box is compatible with grill model 5650. https://www.homedepot.com/s/chargriller%252022424?NCNI-5 Thank you!
A: yes easy
A: Yes. But make sure it is facing away from your house and as far from the house as you can. Smoke can go in your house and it does have fire, so keep as far from house as you can and have water/fire extinguisher close by just in case.
A: Yes if your patio is covered you can barbecue!
A: Possibly, Just try it. If it doesn't vent well try a fan. I bought this grill last year and it is a very good grill. I could not use it on my patio because it smoked out my patio too much(my patio is screened). I had to move to the front door which is covered but not screened.
A: I have mine under a awning and I use it all the time..
A: Well I don't see why not. I have a gazebo covering on my deck and have no issues
A: Yes, covered patio. We grill in all types of weather conditions.
A: Char-Griller recommends keeping your grill at least 15 feet from any combustible material (decks, buildings, fences, trees, bushes, etc). Thank you!

A: Hi Carlos. To remove the ashes from your Patio Pro Charcoal Grill, you will need to wait until the grill has cooled down and then you will need to remove the Ash Drawer. Once the Ash Drawer has removed, take out the Fire Grate and then empty the ashes into a fireproof container like a metal trashcan or the Behrens 6 Gal Steel Trash can with lid: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Behrens-6-gal-Galvanized-Steel-Round-Trash-Can-with-Locking-Lid-00108/202264761 http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfImages/7b/7bf00a2c-02b1-43ce-a377-35977c9bf869.pdf Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.
