Rich, dark color that repels water.
It has been on the deck for almost a month now. It still is holding it's color and has not peeled or faded in any way. It was easy to apply. I put on two coats. Aside from the faint odor of oil stain, I am very pleased with the outcome. I do not expect to see a 3-year duration, but will definitely apply this same stain in the future. I am very happy with the appearance and ease of use. The price was reasonable compared to most.

Easy to apply
We rolled our flat bed semi trailer decks with this and it worked great. Application was easy and everything coated uniformly with out much effort. Clean up the excess with a rag and some mild cleaner and you have a great looking finish.

Excellent product
Easy to use a sprayer to apply, which is what we were looking for. Did need to go over with a light brush or roller so there wouldn't be puddles. We only put one coat of the stain/sealer on. If necessary, we will add another coat in the Fall for extra protection. Pleased with the product and would recommend. Also, really like the cedar color.

Easy to apply and looks good.
Ordered to cover new fence 8' x 64' board on board, 5 gallons covered the face side of the fence. Fence looks really nice. Blends in with the background better. Wife really likes the color. Used a combination of hand pump sprayer, brush, and roller. Used the sprayer to get the side edges and the face of the setback boards, used the brush to smooth it out, and used the roller for the face boards. Took a majority of the day to complete the job. The cover has no pour feature, think about getting a 5 gallon roller thingy, worked right from can. Used plastic container to scoop and poured into sprayer.

I would recomend this product
I have stained my cedar sided home 3 times with a latex stain and it does not last long where the sun shines on it for long periods. This oil base seemed to penitrate the cedar and I am very please with the look. I used the natural color witch darkened the sideing and am well pleased.

Good product, easy to work with
I used this stain on 27-year-old rough-sawn cedar lap siding, that was last stained 6 years ago. It was lightly power-washed and allowed to dry for 3 days before staining. Reading other users describe this stain as "dark", I thought I would try it, since I didn't mind if the outcome was dark brown & the price fit my budget. When applying this stain it does go on incredibly dark, but as you can see from the photo, it lightens up after just a few days. (photo is after 9 days of drying) This stain flows smoothly, covers/soaks in well, and is not too overpowering with VOC's. I used a brush on the siding, and a roller and brush on the deck (which is 20+ year old & pressure-treated). I got about 250 sq ft covered per gallon. Time will tell how it holds up to the sun and rain here in the mid-Atlantic.

Awesome!
F & P have a great product here. Looks really nice, though I will suggest if you are painting a new fence to paint it sooner rather than later having to pressure wash, etc, the old. Can see a difference between the new/old fence but it covered up nicely on the old fence with a second coat. (in the picture new fence is left to middle of pic and then the old fence - old fence has more of a glossy look to it) Started using an electric spray gun (Wagner) and that worked for about 5 feet of the 1700 sq. ft, - a lot of solids in the stain even after straining. Went out and bought a Husky $35 dollar air compressor "sprayer" and the thing worked perfectly. - though I did still strain the stain before use. Water beads and runs right off the fence now and it looks really good!!

Redwood stain came out great!
After searching "deck stain" reviews on-line, I decided to use F&P Redwood exterior stain from Home Depot for my wood deck. It applied nicely and was very easy to use. The final result was a professional looking stained/finished deck. A very worthwhile weekend project. I like it so much that I'm going to do my fence next (I came here to order another 5 gallon bucket). See my pictures for before and after results.

Excellent application and Color
This product has excellent richness in color and no overlap problems. Unlike water base sealers, the linseed oilbased product disipates over time, making removal of the product evironmentally friendly. I have been using this product for several years. Because it is an oilbased sealer it will absorb into the deck based on the moisture of the wood and back wiping excess product is esential. My joy in using the product along with my customers satisfaction in look ensures I will use it as long as they will make it!

Awesome Stain, beautiful color, Goes on easily
Wolmans F&P Stain is so easy to use. I have stained my Gazebo with it and my fence. I have gotten compliments saying it looks like a professional did the work. I have tried other stains and they went on awful. I will only use F&P for now on. The color natural does go on darker than what you might expect for natural color, but it does lighten some over time and regardless the color is rich and beautiful. My father is doing his fence next with it he loves mine so much!

Great for wood siding & T-111 plywood! - I'm a repeat buyer
My first application on raw & properly prepped (bleach & water sprayed on, to open the wood pores) Hemlock board & batten siding lasted 8 years! My neighbor has had to do his twice in the same time period, using another popular brand's semi-transparent stain. My siding had accumulated mildew and a little graying of the color the last few years on the south & west sides of the building, so I recently stripped the remaining finish, mildew and graying of the wood by spraying/wetting the siding with a mixture of 50% chlorine bleach and 50% water. This made the siding look like fresh lumber. I let it dry for a week and applied the new coating (a moderate coat) with a hand pump type sprayer, working a 6 ft by 16 ft area at a time. This was followed immediately with a medium nap paint roller on a extendable paint stick (and paint brush, where needed) to distribute wetter areas into drier areas and to force the oil finish into the wood pores. After 1 or 2 hours a thin coat was sprayed again over the first coat and this was distributed again with the roller & brush. This second, "wet on wet" coating (recommended by Wolman) is to saturate any areas that absorbed the finish too deeply, looking like dry spots. This second coat maximizes the life of the finish. I did the second coating on only the south & west sides, as the north & east sides are shaded and protected from the sun at all times. The finish looks wet or shiny for a few days and drys (or absorbs) to a flat finish. It shows the grain and knots the same as an oil stain on wood furniture does. Their "Natural" color tone I used resulted in a color similar to an old penny, or unfinished western red cedar, or cigarette tobacco...sort of a reddish-brown color when in the can and on the siding. I did mix in additional mildewcide to the stain, even though Wolman puts twice the mildewcide of other brands in their finish. Probably overkill, but I did this the first time too. I mix the stain and mildewcide in the can thoroughly with a paint mixer (has paddles) attached to a drill, and immediately pour it through a "painters sock" (fine mesh paint strainer bag) into the sprayer. I shake the sprayer every time I had to pump more air into it (about every 3 minutes), to keep everything mixed well. Every time I would refill the sprayer, I would first remix what was remaining in the pail with the drill paint mixer and then pour it into the sprayer. I will now do a quick rinse of the siding with a much weaker bleach & water solution every year or two, to rinse away any mildew or slight graying, and apply a fresh thin coat over the siding if any raw wood is noticed afterwards (as recommended by Wolman). This should extend the life of the finish to should prevent future stripping off of the finish entirely every 6-8 years (maybe never again?)...we'll see how this "maintenance" works. Strangers and distant neighbors have made a point of stopping by to ask what brand I used...and commented how they loved the color and overall finished appearance!

Many Compliments on this stain!
I did not know too much about stains or painting before I bought this stain...I had a fence installed and needed a stain to paint it---well, I knew I wanted a reddish hued stain so I purchased this one---little did I know how great the stain looked---I have had many people around me want to know what I used---I think the secret was to get the semi-transparent redwood rather than more opaque varieties---this transparency allows the beauty of the wood to still stand out.--This, I believe was what caught other's attention to the beauty of the stain and wood...I am on my 4th 5-gallon can---Homedepot has the best price for this stain and I was waiting for them to carry it again....you will not go wrong with this stain if you want something a little more exotic and strong looking for your wood-staining needs.

easy to use and covered well.
we used both a roller and brush to smooth out the puddles after we sprayed and it was very easy to do. the area covered was far larger than we anticipated so we only needed to buy another gallon to finish.

I was surprised that this product wasn’t available in any stores as I have used and purchased this locally for the last 30 years. I was pleased that it was available but did delay my project due to delivery issues. The product is excellent and hope to continue to be available.
