This does what it says it does. Longer drying time but that is to be expected with an oil based product. The finish is Amazing! I used it on a Redwood pergola structure and birch gate and I am extremely satisfied with the result. I did a second coat after letting the product dry for 3 days since there were dry spots.

I have liked Wolmans products and I'm hoping this 5 gallons of F&P Redwood will serve well as a preservative. My main disappointment is the color/appearance. This was called "Redwood" but when I coated a new piece of lumber, it looked nothing like redwood. I've included a photo of true redwood with a clear finish (left) and Wolman F&P "Redwood" stain applied to pine (right). The stain looks pretty, but I don't think you should call it "Redwood". I may try adding a dye to get the color I need. It is a problem because I want to match some previously stained and /or painted wood in a 300 foot wood fence. I may check with the seller to see of they have any suggestions.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience, Bob. Our Wolman F&P Finish and Preservative is a transparent finish, and will not be able to create such a dark color on a light wood surface. We recommend using a semi or solid color stain to create a darker hue on the surface, such as our RockSolid 2x Solid Stain: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-RockSolid-5-gal-Redwood-Exterior-2X-Solid-Stain-319835/307428303 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

I used Wolman F&P on my dog-eared redwood plank fence 5 years ago. I haven't had to re-apply at all. The home is in Corona Ca. and has done well in all types of weather. It still beads water! I'm re-applying this year in the spring to give the fence an even more striking appearance. For the 125 bucks, a backpack sprayer and a hotdog roller, time and money well-spent. Thanks Wolman and HD.

In my opinion this product works better than any other on the market. I get compliments on my deck every year. people can't believe that the deck is almost 30 years old. The finish maintains it's luster and water continues to bead up months after the application.

Case arrived and the gallon cans were dented but, clips secured the lids without any issues. I applied the product on a pergola using a roller and then followed it up with a brush to smooth out the applied product. This worked out well. Pergola was made from PT and had weathered for two years and then was sanded and sanded, very smooth. The product absorbed into wood very well. Be forewarned, I choose the natural color and it turned out quite a bit darker than I expected (as the photo shows) but, am still VERY pleased with its appearance. The pergola is 12'x12' and it soaked up just over two gallons due to the fact that it absorbs so well. Be attentive to slight runs during application as these areas will appear darker once you get back to that area.

    Beautiful Color
Beautiful color, stays mixed quite nicely, not too stinky. We're thrilled with our choice to use this stain.

    Expensive but Worth It
Had a new 6' Cedar fence installed in October along our property line abutting the alley. As I paid a lot for this fence I wanted to keep it in good shape. The online reviews tended to indicate this product (made by Rust-O-Leum) is exceptional. It was pricey at about $140 for 5 gallons. I purchased a $40 Echo pump sprayer in anticipation of applying the finish in this manner, but that was a bust -- it just pepper-sprayed the fence. Finally, sorted to using rollers and a 5" stain brush. Since the wood was very rough and porous, the finish really soaked in. We used 4 gallons to cover about 480 square feet: a 70x6 fence section. Bottom line, from the pictures it appears really good and enhances the look of the wood; now the test will be how it hold up over time.

    Looks great, excellent wood preserver
We have applied three treatments of F&F every four years for the last 12 years for our deck's wood preservation. We applied the material with rollers, stain brush and sprayer (lattice work); two coatings on the flat surfaces and one on the spindles and lattice. The picture shows the deck after a rain storm. Notice it does a great job at keeping the water from penetrating the wood.

I absolutely love the look of this stain on my fence!
I spent hours researching products in stores and on-line. This product had very good reviews so I decided to give it a try. I couldn't be happier. My fence was about two years old and had lost almost all of its beautiful cedar color. I power washed it, gave it a few days to dry, and applied 10 gallons of the F&P Cedar stain and the look is amazing. It has a dark, rich look and I love that it shows all the wood grain beneath it. We had a good rain about 24 hours after application and it repelled the water very well. You can't go wrong with this product. I've had numerous compliments from my neighbors and I just applied it a few days ago.

    So far good product
Used a sprayer to apply product, went on very easily and had good coverage. I put red cedar shakes on the front of my house, and used this product to prevent graying and to prevent ultraviolet damage.

    Awesome product, easy to use!
We purchased this product to stain/seal the cedar deck and outdoor kitchen cover. As you can see, the contrasting stain selection and finished project is warm and inviting. Stain was easy to use and only required a one-coat application! We were so pleased with this product, we plan to purchase the 5-gallon container to stain our cedar privacy fence. We anticipate that this will make our fence look awesome and add additional life to that investment.

    Love it
My deck was 15 years old and had never had anything done to it. It looked really bad but now after a thorough cleaning and applying this stain it looks great. I couldn't be more pleased. It took a lot of stain since the wood was so old and weathered but it must have worked because it really beads up after a rain. I applied using a roller and a cheap brush for the cracks where the roller couldn't get. Although the directions say to use mineral spirits for clean up, I just discarded the roller and brush after I was finished and cleaned up everything else with Mr. Clean and water. Ceder is a great color for me. I've attached a photo to show what the color is on the weathered wood and on new wood. The top and rails are new wood and the spindles and decking are old wood.

    Great Product, Easy Application
Awesome product that goes on very easy and looks great. Don't have to worry about overlapping sections, evens out very nicely. Just make sure you go back with a rag and wipe up any excess after a few hours. I was going to do two coats, but decided to do just one. I will re-apply next Spring if it looks like it needs it. Repels water very well.

    Great product!
We used the F&P Honey Pine on a powerwashed 7yr old fence. We applied it with an airless sprayer. The color came out very nice. So far we are very pleased.

I expected a lot and got even more!
I'm not usually a review writer but can't help it in this case... I purchased this product based on the previous reviews and the good price. I was extremely pleased with how easily the stain applied to my 7' stockade fence (1820 sf) using my little Ryobi airless sprayer (also purchased at HD online) and with a back roller. I bought 15 gallons based on the estimated coverage and got 3 coats out of only 10 gallons! It looks beautiful and I expect it to last several years!

    Looks great!
Wasn't sure what to get to stain a new deck with but read the reviews on this and decided to get it, even though it was only available online. Ordering, shipping and pick up were easy, and the product performed as stated, and it looks great!

    This product exceeded our expectations
This product was easy to use and surprizingly easy to clean up afterwards. The second coat deepened the color and made the new wood much smoother. After the first rain, beads of water were everywhere. I plan to get a small push broom to be sure the water doesn't sit there.

Look no further, I already did the research, as good as Sikkens if not better & more reasonably priced
After doing months of research & speaking to friends, family, coworkers & painting contractors, I chose this product after I pressure washed & sanded my deck lightly. I applied it according to the instructions, I did however run out twice & had to re-order twice since it is sold online only to NJ. The coverage info is way off, but I should have known better since my deck has never had anything put on it since I built it.Just the deck surface is 16' X 32' (512 square ft) & also I also stained the top rail & spindles. I ended up using just about 8 gallons. As per the instructions, you CAN NOT put a second coat on after it dries or it will look horrible since it does not penetrate the wood & lays on top & leaves a nasty sheen so I recommend you put a liberal non puddling coat on using a 3/8 nap roller & a brush on the spindles all at once. (forget about a sprayer, I tried it & wasted too much) Many of the past reviews helped me choose this product & I owe thanks to everyone. I stained the top side in the fall & the spindles a few months ago. My friend just used Sikkens & it was priced much higher, my father's neighbor also used it & said he needed a second coat as it seemed to fade fast. I guess time will tell how this product holds up, they say you will get an estimated 3 years out of it. So far, it is beading water like crazy & made it through a winter of snow & ice laying on it. Good luck, bottom line, I would recommend it.

    Great Product
I used this stain on my decks and I am extremely happy with the results...it rained the day after application and the water beaded on the wood...it also made the grain of the wood stand out better...great product especially because its a stain and sealer combined.
