I had taken the chance in utilizing some of Wagners more innovative products in a dash to paint multiple apartments which needed to be rented out. One of these products was the smart roller. It came assembled in the box, as promised, but only learned through a YouTube tutorial, there was a “Wagner Paint Lid” that may have expedited the process and procedure of loading. I forwent the instruction manual for Wagner’s own video tutorial in which a woman made the process seem anything but complicated. I went step-by-step with the video, slid the plastic loader into my bucket, connected it to the loading reservoir of the roller, and pulled back the plunger. My roller was loaded! I proceeded to paint the wall, pumped the comfortable trigger, and immediately shot paint like a child’s party favor across the room. It was not covered in the video, nor the instructions, an additional step to preventing painting the opposite wall with globe of paint. The troubleshooting was a huge help, kidding it was worthless as Wagner concluded the sole possibility was I had paint in the loading reservoir, and to clean it out and all my woes would disappear. After I emptied the entire contents of the roller shot after splattering shot into the bucket, I knew at last Wagner got lazy on possible causes. There was no additional info on social media, their website, or the god awful instruction book to the contrary. In all I was left with an overly priced paint cannon which I promptly kicked across the room and cursed as I though about all the time I could have been rolling with a standard roller, cover, and pan. Thanks Wagner for the defective product and the lesson that what makes life look easier, only results in an overdose of Advil, some mangled plastic pieces, and a loss in confidence for your products.

There's a lot of complaints about this device in reviews but overall, I liked it. Assembling was fairly easy and using it to paint the wall was easy as well. Oddly i'm speckled with little dots of paint because it seemed to do that.

It worked well for 8’ foot ceilings and walls. Not as easy to use on 9’ ceilings. I found it exhausting to hold Smart Roller up when fully filled with paint and balance on ladder. I will try it again on next paint project. It is messy to clean up if you don’t have slop sink.

Loved it. Works flawlessly and absolutely made no mess, there was no need to put plastic down because there was no drips from a messy and awkward pan. Buy it!

I had one one of these rollers before bought both through homedepot, first one did fairly well. This one is a joke the roller has popped off 8x+ on a small closet... I tried bearly pushing on it and still pops off and also doesnt cover areas without a little pressure which renders it usless... Once it pops off a glob of paint splatters everywhere which leads to am exhausting amout of clean up time! Would return back to homedepot, but threw the recipt away because I placed my trust in Wagner and lost! Headache galore loved the first but the 2nd is a deal breaker!

Here is what I like about this product. 1) It is affordable - a little more than a good brush. Even if it lasts for 5 sessions of painting, it's still worth it. 2) If something wears out or doesn't get cleaned properly, you can always get parts, and the parts are very affordable. 3) It works well. It's not perfect, but like with anything, it takes practice. Keep it up Wagner - your innovation and affordability are awesome.

Makes painting walls and ceiling a breeze, almost fun. No drips!! I put the roller in a zip lock bag when I took a break and overnight, so it doesn't dry--clean up takes a little bit of time but if you are thorough, my first unite has lasted over ten years and many projects.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have seen may "loadable" paint rollers in the past, but this one is great. Easy to load, minimal mess when painting, especially the ceilings. The roller lays down the paint nice and evenly. Cleanup is quick as well.....A LOT easier than dealing with the splatter all over the room from a traditional roller.

It was easier to use and even easier to clean up. The convenience of having the paint inside the roller, helped me save a lot of time. For someone with back issues, saving the step of constantly bending to pour paint was a huge plus. I would definitely recommend this!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is an excellent painting tool for home owners wanting to do their own painting. It is relatively easy to fill and saves time loading the roller with paint. Clean up takes longer with this tool, which is off set by the time saved painting

What a pity. It could have been so helpful, but the thing is quite useless. The feature that allows drawing the paint up into the tube is flawed, so instead of sucking paint it only sucks air. So disappointed.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My first project with the Smart Roller was a ceiling in an averaged sized room. The Smart Roller is as easy to use as a classic roller. Right out of the box you simply suck the paint up into the tube with all the included parts and you're ready to start painting. The roller was smooth and continued to feed paint to the brush and I completed nearly half the ceiling before I had to refill with more paint. Refilling is also very easy to do. The Smart Roller's greatest feature is how mess free I was able to paint. I did not drop a single drop of paint onto the floor while doing the entire ceiling. I love how much paint the tube holds, however it does make the brush a little heavy which is the only drawback I had with using the Smart Roller. Clean up was also very easy as all the parts of the Smart Roller unscrew so you can wash all the excess paint out. I will be using the Smart Roller for a long time for all my painting projects. I would recommend the Smart Roller for anyone looking to paint and keeping the mess factor down to a minimum.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I opened the box of the Smart Roller I was skeptical about how well it would work. I did not think that drawing paint into the tub would work very well, and that when pumping paint into the roller would leave me with paint running all over the place. However, neither of these two were a problem. The first room I painted was a small 5 foot by 10 foot mud room. I used the Smart Roller on the open wall area after edging around baseboard, door trim, and ceiling and wall corners. Paint was delivered evenly across the roller which made it easy to paint, and splatter was almost non-existent. The weight of the Smart Roller when loaded with paint was not cumbersome to use. The overall look of the finished job was as good, if not better than using a standard roller and painting tray. The Owner’s Manual is well written and easy to follow. The Tip on page 4 is an excellent suggestion. I would strongly recommend using a large tub for clean-up. In addition, for those who tend to get paint all over the place like I do, I would suggest clean-up be done outside. I am using a five gallon container of paint, and the Fill Tube is not going to reach to the bottom of the container. An additional longer Fill Tube would nice.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this about two weeks ago and the timing was perfect I needed to repaint my pantry walls before I put up new shelves, The Smart roller made the job a lot faster being able to fill the handle with paint I didn't have to keep going back and put more paint on the roller, it allowed me to get so much more area covered that I was able to do the job in half the time it would have taken. clean up took a little longer than I thought it would but I'm kind of picky on how clean my tools are but still it wasn't hard to do and it really only took about 20 minutes to get everything clean. It was nice not have to clean up a roller tray or worry about spilling any paint like you can when filling the paint tray.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a previous owner of the Wagner Paint-N-Roll, this roller is easier to use when rolling from head level to the floor. A lot more control of the paint flow. The only downside was when you were painting above your head. With the Paint-N-Roll you could grab the plunger in your right hand and the end of the tube with the other, allowing you to reach higher. The Smart Roller overall is a time saving piece of equipment for small to medium sized projects.

Well, count me in, the ability to roll some paint on walls, ceilings,you name it without using a tray (that can get spilled) is awesome! It DOES take some getting used to as far as gauging when your paint will run out but that's okay,this is streamlining painting for those of you who don't want to use a sprayer and it's a whole lot easier to clean up!

I have used several Wagner smart rollers over the years. The seals tend to dry out when left sitting for many months....so I buy a new one for a new big job. But you can't beat it for multiple gallon applications ! Yes it's a tool that requires thoughtful setup (lubricate the O rings !) and careful cleaning, but it's well worth the time saved in my opinion.
