Toro’s independent service dealers provide warranty consideration. After a physical inspection, if the failure is determined to be a manufacturing defect, it will be covered under warranty. Items such as fuel-related issues, improper maintenance, adjustments, and accidents are not manufacturing defects. Please review your product’s warranty located on the last page of your operator’s manual for details of coverage. To locate a dealer nearest you, please visit us at www.toro.com/dealer.
      Impressive
I purchased this mower it handles quite well with the Zero turn radius. The 24.5 hp engine provides plenty of power to mow high grass

        I recommend this mower highly.
I have only taken it "out for a spin" four or five times (about 2+ hours), so I realize it will take a while for me to "learn the foot controls", so this is coming from a rather novice user. 1. When you release the foot pedal the machine automatically applies the "brake" rather aggressively. It will take a while to learn right pedal control for a smooth stop. 2. This is a "zero turn" but not "zero mow". I quickly learned that you cannot encircle any size obstacle because the rear wheel encroaches the object, and gets hung up on it. You need 4-wheel steering for that. 3. I like that I can bypass the PTO shut-off for reverse (a lot of ware 'n tare). I'd rather leave it engaged. 4. I was really surprised how really stable this machine is on slopes. It is much more stable than the lawn tractor I had previously. The steering holds the slope very well. I suspect it is also little wider than the tractor was even though they are both 42" models.

        Deck
I have had this lawn mower for 1 year and the deck has jumped off the hanger three times already. I had to hire someone to finish cutting my lawn until I get this issue figured out.

          Worse Mower I've Ever Owned
I've owned a Time Saver (42" Steering Wheel version) for a year. It is heading back to the dealer for the 3rd time. Forward - Reverse cable sticks and the mower will not move. Cable has been adjusted once and then replaced. Seems like a design flaw. I plan to try and get a full refund and go buy another brand of mower. Not happy with Toro at all.

            Very unreliable mower
Have tried to use this mower for a year. Cannot keep the deck level. Almost every time I use it the deck comes off the rear suspension rods. I suppose it would be acceptable for mowing Golf course greens; but my lawn is not quite that smooth. If the deck wheels touch anything, mope hills, ruts, tree roots etc---the deck pops off the suspension. Very poor design---I definitely would not recommend this mower----Henry

I purchased 2 of them and since I was used to a steering wheel it was very easy to use. They cut my lawn mowing in half!

            Excellent for steep terrain
I have been using a Timecutter Z Zero turn mower for about 15 years to mow about an acre of variable terrain including some steep side slopes with bumpy ground. I had to go to the skid turn mower because a standard rider would have rolled on the terrain. The skid turn was exciting but could manage it except when the grass got slightly wet. You then lose all steering control and begin sliding down the hill. The new Timecutter SW4200 solves that problem totally. I have never felt as secure before while mowing these hills. I have much more steering control in the steep and slippery sections now. It also seems to be much less likely to get stuck in soft and muddy sections as well. Those are the two great plusses and I'd recommend this mower to anyone with these conditions to deal with. However if you have a reasonably flat yard, I'd go with the standard skid turn models. They are much easier to turn in small in and out areas and just a lot more fun to drive and less $$ as well. The only negatives I've found other than the slightly decreased handling compared to the old one is the placement and labeling of the lever controlling the deck height. From the drivers position you are looking straight down the slot from the top and can't accurately see the height labels - you can only see them well while looking from the side. If your eyes were in your right knee it would be perfect. I've gotten in the habit of counting notches to drop the deck down to 3". Would be good if they had an adjustable stop pin like in my old one so you could preset it and just drop it into place without looking. Many have commented on the lack of an hour meter and that you have to buy one as an accessory even though there is a spot prepared for it. I found that annoying, but my old one did not come with one and wasn't wired for one either, so this is actually a bit of an upgrade from the older models. The hour meter snaps into place and plugs into an existing wire harness so it took only about 5 minutes to install. Just figure this as an add on to the sticker price and get on with life.

            Not for all yards
I would not recommend this for those who have sandy soil, which I have. The first day out on this machine I got stuck twice...really stuck! I thought if I changed the tires with a different tread than the tires that it came with that might solve the problem, so I contacted Toro who said I could not put different tires on my machine. Then I was told by Toro that this Zero Turn was not meant for sandy soil. Our soil is not Beach sandy, it is loose soil that has sand in it. I checked the Toro website and the Home Depot website and nowhere on either does it say anything about this. I also called the dealership in my area who told me the Zero Turn was meant for golf course type lawns and nothing else. On the good side. I called Home Depot and they immediately set up a return and had a freight company come to the house and pick it up. I didn't have to pay for the return and will be getting all my money back I spent on this mower.

I have a hilly terrain and this cuts it fasts and even. I added the mulch kit and it works really well. Haven't had it long enough to rate the dependability but good so far.

Less than 5 hours on mower but so far so good
Less than 5 hours on mower, but so far I am impressed by the way it cuts. I am on an incline and cut across rather than up and down. Mower mows even with no scalping. Mower comes without hour meter, which is an option. Should come with hour meter since maintenance is based on hour usage. I added the hour meter.

              Great mower
This has been a terrific mower. Reduced my cutting time by 2 hours. Acceleration is very smooth and the zero turn function combined with the steering wheel just feels natural. The only thing I would have liked to have seen is headlights. I had to purchase and install my own. For this much money they should have come standard. All in all a great mower

                Buyer beware!
I purchased the SW4200 with the Kohler engine through Home Depot of Placerville, CA, after reading lots of reviews and verifying it was US made. It appeared to be a good mower, and I still like it. It was delivered to a Auburn, CA, assembled there, and then delivered to us in Pleasant Valley. Within a few months of operation, the mower started acting "squirrelly." While mowing, the mowing deck would shut off for no apparent reason (light mowing load). The automatic parking brake would come on and stay on. The engine would stop running, all for no apparent reason. The nearest "authorized service" was True Value on Missouri Flat road, an hour round trip, and NO, the warranty , according to the True Value, does not pay for someone to come get your mower; you have to figure a way to get it to them, which may mean renting a trailer (if you have something with which to tow a trailer). I suspected a sensor was failing intermittently, but the service center told me it was the battery that was the culprit, and Toro would not cover the replacement. After some conversation they ended up replacing the battery at no cost to me. I can only guess that Toro did not pay them. It did not take long for the mower to start misbehaving again. After several months of just living with intermittent failure, the mowing deck finally refused to engage, so I took it back to the same True Value, and it wasn't until I had already unloaded the mower and was at the service counter that they told me they were "no longer a Toro authorized service center." Really??? The only other "local" place, Placerville Polaris, told me over the phone that they would only cover "parts and not labor on a warranty repair for my Toro." That sound like a good warranty to anybody? I sent an email to Toro asking "why" and was sent a canned response telling me where the warranty information was located. As in, my question was never addressed. The next nearest "authorized service center" is that True Value in Auburn, CA, approximately a 3 hour round trip twice, once to drop it off, and another to pick it up. Ergo, it might look like a good warranty on paper, but when you go to get it repaired under warranty, you may either need to "jump through hoops," or just pay out of pocket for the repair. Not trying to imply that this is a common experience, but this IS what happened to me.

Meh - New and doesn't work??
Please take my review with a grain of salt. I can only base my review on the lack of the functioning mower. I bought the mower close to spring time and when the weather was at a good point to start mowing (just a few days outside of the Home Depot return policy), the mower refused to start. I checked all of the basics: Battery, gasoline, oil. I then opened the cover of the engine and found that the flywheel was extremely tight requiring a significant force to get it to move. So a brand new mower with zero miles on it failed to start even after following all of the instructions. I had to call a service center to have this looked at and incur an additional cost for having someone pickup/deliver. Let's see what comes back from the service center but I expected a lot more from Toro's products. This is not a used product but brand new and something as simple as starting is where it's failing over. I'm not impressed.

This machine is fast. The cut is nice and smooth. It handle with ease. My craftsmen 42" died and the Toro SW 4200 has easily taken its place. It should have included the hour meter and mulching kit should.

                        disapointed
It was time to replace my 20 year old standard lawn tractor, the type sold under several brand names but clearly all made by the same company. A new one just like it is less than half the cost of this one. It had become unreliable and needed yearly repairs, I wanted something better performing and more reliable. Only time will tell if the Toro is more reliable but it is not better performing. The rear tires are much narrower than the old mower and the tread is less aggressive. The mower got stuck where the old mower had no problem. The rear wheels spinning and digging up grass on hills. It has trouble turning on hills. It doesn't cut grass as well either. Despite having more horse power and going nice and slow, it leaves behind uncut grass. The zero turn maneuverability is great but the front tires tend to dig up the lawn and if you try to start out with the wheels turned, it doesn't want to move. If it was not too late, I would return it and get an entrée level John Deer for exactly half the price. The ride is very bumpy also. I think this mower is designed for perfectly manicured flat, level smooth lawns.

Broke the first time I used it!!
The first time I used the mower I was impressed until I hit a little heavy grass and the mower threw the belt that controlled the blades. Not a good start. The Toro dealer was prompt in picking the mower up at my house but there is a $100 pick up and delivery charge. I would expect it is under warranty.

Thank you for the feedback here on the difficulty with the belt. As you know the service dealer will inspect the machine and if the inspection uncovers any manufacturing defect Toro provides a full three year warranty to protect you. It is important to note that the warranty is specific to the machine and does not pertain to pickup and delivery service of the machine. Similar to any other type of home maintenance machine or jet-ski, boat, motorcycle. All do need to be brought to a service repair shop by the customer for repair. Thank you and please if you have any additional questions or concerns we are available at 888-384-9939. Toro

                        Very Capable Mower
May not be the cheapest but certainly a well made product. Mower is capable of traveling much faster than traditional riding mowers. Adding the mulching kit is straightforward...just follow the directions. I purchased the steering wheel equipped model vice the lap bar model due to having kids that will be asked to mow the lawn. In hindsight, the lap bar model may actually be easier for the kids to use. Very satisfied.

                        Love it
I researched several different brands and types of zero turn mowers and found myself with 2 options, the toro z steer or a scag. I only mow about 2 acers and choose the toro 50 inch z steer because of price and that it had all the same options as the more expensive mower. I feel both would be great mowers but for my needs the toro would fit me best. I have been well pleased with my new toro, it mows great, fast, does great on hills, and makes mowing a pleasure.

Toro SW5000 74790 The best mower ever, fast mowing, zero turn, stops fast, the automatic bypass choke makes starting easy. The steering wheel controls the front wheels so there is no front end drop on hills like the stick drive models have I can mow a straight line on my hilly yard from all directions up down or across the hills and you still have full control and full zero turn. You have two transmissions so when the steering wheel is strait each wheel is turning the same I feel it is as good as a locking rear end lawn tractor for traction and it also helps from one transmission working harder on hills like the stick drive models do. I was told by the local dealer not to worry about the Toro twin 24.5 hp motor it has been around for a few years and they have had no problems with it. The power and operation has been great for me. For the price I think the armrest and hour meter should have been included and lights should be standard but as of right now no lights are even available to install even as an accessory ? If you are comparing to a riding tractor lawn mower - The tractor style is slower, does not turn as sharp, but it can tow/hall more weight. The zero turn is faster cut down 40% of your mowing time, has zero turn, and does not hall as much 250 lbs. Both are just a lawn mower unless you buy the $4000 - $6000 garden tractor and they are still slower than the zero turn.
