YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! Piece of junk: Dug one hole fine worked fine. Auger wouldn't turn for second use. Would have returned to home depot but I didn't use until after 30 day period (was waiting for fence supplies to arrive). Called company. Told take it to their repair shop. If they deem it manufacturing defect they will fix it. Otherwise out of pocket expense. How much you want to bet it somehow isn't covered. My fault for not buying top of the line. It was for a single job and I now have to dig holes by hand.

This auger does everything you need it to do. I would definitely recommend it for anyone needing to drill multiple fence post holes. One heads up - if you run into clay when digging, it is not your auger blade that is having issues. Clay is just tough to auger through when dry. Add about a 1/2 gallon of water to your hole, wait until the water disappears, and the auger will go right through it.

This did exactly what I needed it to do-24" deep footers in soft dirt/clay. My footers were 24" square, so I had to drill several holes, but this made the work so much easier than a shovel! If you need to go deeper than 24" or have lots of rocks/tree roots, you may need a larger device & 2 people.

Works good enough for a homeowner to use every now and then. It doesn't do very well in ground that has a lot of clay in it.

Easy to assemble and operate. If in rocky soil I’d probably get a much stronger two man auger.

Bought Southland auger to dig postholes in rocky clay in TN. Rented different auger from HD weekend before I bought, which had a little more power, but this one performs extremely well. Light enough not to be a bear to lug around. Still need long prybar for big rocks, but that goes for any auger.

Easy assembly and easy to use. When engine is warm and after it has sat off, it has a small problem keeping the carb primed and loses some power during operation. This hasn't been a problem on the first use of the day, only after well warmed up and turned off/on a few times. Perhaps a fuel tank vent or fuel supply line issue. Still troubleshooting.

Hard to start on first startup like any 2 stroke engine. Once it got going, I dug 20 holes in loam/clay like soil. Was lucky enough not to hit rocks, but it tore through some 2 inch diameter Douglas Fir roots easily. I just had to back it out and let it carefully dig in more. I was impressed. Western Oregon soft soil may have helped. Giving it 4 stars for now, but if it keeps up for another 30 holes I'll up that to 5 stars.

Could not get this to start - did everything according to the directions!! Watched the YouTube videos - which demonstrated opposite starting instructions (with the throttle handle on top). paper instructions showed holding the handle down with your foot (throttle handle on bottom). Others with it standing strait up - still nothing. Thinking the spark plugs are bad - will have to make another trip for parts!! Ugh! and customer service is only open Mon-Fri!! seriously???

Auger does not start well and runs rough. I had to put a new spark plug in it after the first couple holes. I think the carburetor is not calibrated correctly and there is no adjustment .

I bought this auger with an a 18" shaft extension to bore 48" holes and I have to say it has worked perfectly. I bored through gravel, clay and dirt with no problems unless you hit bigger palm sized+ rocks or tree roots (hit quite a few tree roots). Very durable started fine every time.

Works fine. In good soil, digs 2 feet deep in just a minute. Then I hit clay, and the digging is a lot slower. Using a San Angelo bar to bust up the clay speeds things up. Also, use a good old two handled post hole digger to get the last of the churned up dirt/clay out of the bottom of the hole.
