Drops the bits
I needed to drill 4 holes for a handrail into a concrete pool deck. Considered renting a hammer drill but for the price decided that this could be better in the long run. I like that it is corded so I don’t run out of juice. Unfortunately it dropped the bits on many occasions. No matter how much I tightened the chuck they still came loose. Also the forward/reverse direction switch is located right on the trigger which caused an accidental change in direction once or twice. It is not a safe tool.

Not worth the time or trouble
I needed to drill a number of holes through cynder block. I was going to rent a rotary hammer but thought I may need it for too long and decided to buy this item. I was seriously mistaken. I used it to drill six of the twelve I needed. It took me most of the day and I was in agony for a week. I started on the next six and when it took more than an hour to get most of the way through one hole, I stopped and rented one. The difference was astounding. I had the remaining holes drilled in about 45 minutes with very little effort. The bottom line is this is not a serious tool. I'm not sure what Ryobi was thinking when they designed this. I would not recommend buying this.

        Got the job done
I got this drill to install a small handrail fence into concrete, which needed 8 holes. The concrete had a fair amount of small rocks in it, but with a good concrete drill bit, it was able to power through. Be sure to read the instructions -- it says at lower speeds for prolonged periods the product may overheat, and to set it to drill and run it at high speed to cool it off.

            Ryobi Drill
Perfect for what I needed! My Ryobi cordless drill just didn’t have enough power for my needs on one job. I really like both tools and all the other Ryobi tools that I have!!!

              Great Drill!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this just yesterday to do some concrete slab drilling and it did the job I needed with no fuss and trouble at all. Well worth the reasonable price, too. It was easy to use and has a great ergonomic design.

Decent hammer drill with 1/2” chuck
Works well enough. Switchable between hammer and regular drill mode. However, mine came with a chuck key that does not fit properly. It slips tightening and is very loose. Called ryobi and they said will send replacement key. Its been a month and no key. I will most likely never buy a ryobi product again - ive had quality issues with other ryobi products (router, sander).

                    Great Addition
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent tool to get the job done! I have many Ryobi cordless tools but some jobs require more than what a cordless tool can handle. Thanks Ryobi for the great variety of tools you offer!!!

                      Wood Auger Torque
I tried to use a 1” wood auger bit but there was not enough torque.

                        Great Drill
This is my first Hammer Drill, so I was not sure what to expect. Initially I thought that there should be more of a hammer effect feeling, but after I tried it, the drill worked much better than my normal drill or impact drill and went through concrete without issue. To test the hammer effect I took out the bit and just pushed down on the ground and you could feel the hammer. This drill met my expectation and was 50 cheaper than an equivalent dewalt. The drill feels very heavy duty.

                            Powerful Drill!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This drill is surprising really! It is super strong for the price you pay. Compared to the larger and meatier machine, this drill is compact and very strong. I really like the Ryobi products.

Bought this 5/8” drill, thinking it was powerful
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My only use of this was to drill out laurel but this failed. I started drilling 1-1/4” holes into a rotting western cedar stump, but it was not strong enough to go more than 3” twice. Moving to another, it only drilled 3- 2” deep holes before dropping speed as though it burned out. I will be returning this and buying a 1/2” professional drill at higher cost. Ryobi is okay for some homeowner projects but not anything heavy duty or professional use.

Hello, Brucem528 - We're sorry that your experience with the drill wasn't positive! We recommend this product for drilling in all types of wood products (lumber, plywood, paneling, composition board, and hard board), ceramics, plastics, fiberglass, laminates, metals, driving screws, and hammer drilling in concrete, brick, or other masonry. However, we do not recommend drilling into trees and stumps. We hope this helps! And if you'd like to discuss your experience further, then please feel free to email us anytime at Reviews@RYOBItools.com.
