Powerful and well worth the $39.99, it will do all the same as an expensive hammerdrill just keep in mind it is a 40 dollar hammerdrill. With a wirebrush attachment for rusty wheel rim cleaning gets the job done fast. Hammerdrill mode for drilling wall frames in concrete.

This hammer drill made it infinitely easier to drill cinder block than any rotary drill. Save your joints. If you need to drill into masonry, or its siblings, use a hammer drill and a carbide hammer drill bit, it makes a world of difference. And if you want to save your money, this is a great value for the price.

    A Very Worthy Tool
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After using a drill and rotary masonry bit, anchoring shelves to the wall, for half the day, my shoulders were screaming at me to do something else for the rest of the day. With more to do the next day, there was no way I was going to repeat that effort. What's Ryobi got? They've got an outstanding tool that's value-priced for every diy, or novice, like me. While Variable-Speed-Reversible may be easy for others to make, & 'hammer drill' hints at big price, nobody else comes as close to smashing that myth. Corded, constant power, hammer drill or plain drill, it's a very affordable tool. What a world of difference from rotary to hammer drill! I finished the rest of the wall-hanging work using the D620H on the cinder block, and the P1811 18V cordless for the driver & wood drill work If you're using rotary bits and a drill for masonry, brick, or cinder block, stop. There's a reason they give away rotary drill masonry bits with products like wall anchors. Hammer drill and carbide hammer drill bits will save your joints for other efforts.

I had a project to install lights to concrete pillars with concrete screws. My regular drill would not drill in the concrete and the bit would get stuck in the concrete. So I went to Home Depot and bought this hammer drill by Ryobi. Well I will tell you it drilled that concrete like it was butter. I finished drilling holes for 6 lamps in a couple of hours. It would have taken me days with my old drill. The hammer capability is amazing, and I love the reverse.I would highly recommend this drill for those tough concrete jobs.

      Powerful
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed a drill powerful enough to drill a hole in a tree trunk 20" deep. I have nothing but Ryobi tools. I knew the 5/8" hammer drill could do the job. I wanted to place a 30 foot tall flag pole into the hole. I couldn't be more happier with this tool.

      Good affordable hammer drill
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I spend my time between the main land and Puerto Rico out here on the island I would say about 85% of structures are made of cement including all new homes,so having masonary tools is a must I myself own 2 sds+ drills and a newer Ryobi cordless hammerdrill so I wanted that middle of the road hammerdrill with a cord, all I do is DIY and ocassional jobs for the family so this Ryobi corded drill looked fine to me from that point so I bought it and broke it in by running it full speed with out a load for a minute or two to let the brushes set in then I fit in a Dewalt 1/2 carbide bit and tried to drill a couple of holes on a solid slab of concrete and it all went nice and smooth, won't now how long this will last but if you buy cheap bits you will kill this drill sooner than later so if you know you got yourself a good price on the drill don't cheapen out on the bits, use quality bits like the Dewalt set Model # DW5207 also from HD and the drill should perform good and cool also when on hammer mode go full speed if posible to keep the drills fan at high to prevent overheating the drill,I have had good luck with Ryobi tools and this one looks to be a solid good one.

      Fair Value
Brought this drill because my apartment has cement walls. I wanted something simple to use to hang up pictures and shelves etc (without having to call my contractors every time). The bits (sold separately) are not the easiest to insert in and out of the drill. The little key that you use to tighten the bit grip can be cumbersome; I kept dropping it. But, its very easy to manage once you get the hang of things. It was the least expensive hammer drill available at that time and I'm happy I purchased it.

      It works for now
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this and the first time I used it the reviews are correct. It has a very sparky commutator and a definite smell of ozone with all the arcing. I am not sure how long it will last before the brushes or commutator bars burn out. While drilling into a concrete floor with a 1/8" bit it does hammer drill thru it though you defiantly see a light show coming from the back end of the drill, the sparks will actually fly out from the case. Hopefully its just because the brush blocks haven't bedded into the commutator.

I only bought this item because the rigid comparison was un available. The associate had to un lock it from a cage then walk all the way to the register with me where i had to check it out myself. Terrible experience. I only use home depot now when i cannot wait for a delivery. I used to shop there for my business at least 4 times a week.

          Always the perfect fit
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this a couple of weeks ago and it worked fantastic… more than enough power and I was very impressed especially for the price. There is no need to spend more then needed and Ryobi hits the mark every time… Don’t hesitate to purchase anyone of their products, I can’t say enough about them… They are perfect for the general homeowner and should be considered every time…

            not working
I bought this item yesterday and used it today. The hammer feature is not working which caused me to ruin the concrete bit.

Right out of the box, I used the hammer function on this drill to bore into concrete with a carbide, masonry bit. Started smoking the motor (same as what happened to the previous exact same model of this drill). This drill is insufficient for the task of boring into concrete and probably shouldn't feature a 'hammer' function. The chuck key is a bit loose and doesn't allow really sufficient tightening when in 'hammer' mode. Ergonomics are good. Trigger control is good. Packaging was exceptional. Hammer-drilling.... not so good.

              Broke on first day.
I bought this Hammer Drill today due to a project at home. Needed the drill for 1/2 inch holes in concrete to attach the base plates for shed. Initially things went smoothly but I did notice the drill bit chuck was difficult to adjust for the bits. I thought it would correct over time but no such luck. In the process of drilling, I noticed the drill bit not turning. The chuck would not stay locked onto the drill bit. Now, the chuck will only open half way from the large opening. Very frustrating. Checking for a service center shows one 44 miles away.

                Electric smell each use
Was using the drill making holes in concrete, kept smelling like electric. It drilled 8 holes was okay doing it not a lot of hammer feeling but did it. Came back a week later to drill 8 more and on the 3 hole it smoked really bad and stopped. Wasted my money should have just spent another 50.00 and get better quality.

This drill made it so easy for me to install a TV monitor stand on a cinder block wall in the basement. I drilled 3/8" holes at least 3 inches deep and each hole only took 2-3 minutes with a masonry drill bit. The hole sizes were a perfect fit for the plastic anchors. I couldn't be happier with the result.

                  Works like I needed.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this specifically to drill 4 holes in a concrete porch to install a handrail. Set it on hammer drill, used a hammer drill bit and it worked like a champ. I would definitely recommend for the household DIYer, especially for the price.
