Kind of a dumb design - i had the cycling problem and kept returning the lights as defective. But now i think i found that the light and motion sensor are fighting each other. So I put a piece of cardboard in the cover to block the light from coming out the back of the fixture (toward the sensor) and it seems to finally work. note - I have LED and CFL bulbs, if you use regular lights you don't want to put anything flammable in the light cover...

The photocell is picking up light as the fixture tuns on. It can be reflecting off nearby surfaces or light from the bulbs being used. The cardboard seems to be restricting too much light from getting reflected back into the the photocell causing the photocell to function normally during the day and night. If the photocell picks up light as it comes on it would cause it to turn off immediately since the fixture would think it is daylight.     The lights were easy to install but getting them adjusted...
    The lights were easy to install but getting them adjusted is really tricky and still not working correctly. I can stand in front of them and wave and they don’t come on, but let me walk away and they blink.

    These lights do not work and are going to be returned. One stays on and the other 3 wont stay on like they are supposed to. Max time once activated is supposedly 6 minutes. I cant even get 5 seconds out of them. I hhope I just got a bad bunch.

    My wife and I got this motion light as part of an "update" to our main entry door. We installed a new exterior door, storm door, doorbell, and this light. We went with this motion light because it matched the Newport Coastal Marina lights we have on our formal entrance. The lights match the color of the formal door and sidelights. I will admit. This motion light works very well *IF* used with the correct bulbs. I read the reviews about it cycling on and off but assumed they were defective lights. I installed our light and put a 100 watt equivalent (~15 real watts) LED bulb in it. It cycled on and off, on and off... I stole one of our 150 watt equivalent (~40 real watts) daylight CFL bulbs form the basement and the light still cycled but at a slower pace. I ended up using one of the new 60 watt equivalent (~45 watts) Halogen bulbs. This bulb worked perfectly. It isn't the bulb I would like to use though. I have LED bulbs throughout my house except for my basement where I use CFL's since 150-200+ watt daylight LED bulbs are still too expensive. I would have preferred a 100 watt equivalent daylight bulb for the outdoor entrance. I was only able to find a warm (yellow) 60-watt equivalent bulb. My other Newport Coastal Marina lights without motion detection are using 100 watt equivalent daylight LED bulbs. It appears this lights limitations have to do with the corners Newport Coastal took in wiring in the motion and dusk sensors. The wiring requires (from my experience) a minimum of ~45 watts to a maximum of about 60 watts bulb to operate correctly. While I'm happy with it because I got it working properly and it matches my existing remodels, I have to say I am VERY disappointed with Newport Coastal's lack of updates to this product. Incandescent bulb were banned by the government ~year ago. You CAN NOT GET a true 60 watt incandescent bulb anymore (recommended bulb). Most people are now using LED's anywhere they can (I am)! I know its possible to make LED bulbs work with a motion / dusk light because I am also running a RAB light on my shed with LED lights (AWESOME motion light BTW). Newport Coastal, I almost returned your product even after getting it to work properly with the correct bulb. Why? Because I hate the fact that this bulb takes 42 watts every time it turns on. Update the model and send me one that works with LED bulbs and I will sing your praise!!! I was hoping to get this same light (to keep a theme) for my back door. I also hope to purchase another (non-motion) of these lights for my last remaining door that needs replacing. I'm not soo sure anymore though.

    MarineGeek- With the 7972-11B Marine Outdoor Motion Sensor light, we recommend using only a Type A medium base lamp bulb and not going over the 60W maximum.         This is a sturdy and good looking light that works well as a motion sensitive porch light. The package included everything you need to install it: slotted metal bracket, screws, and wire nuts. The adjustments are easy to use and the best part is that it uses standard light bulb (I used a LED).

        With great joy we purchased this light fixture because it fit the nautical theme we are aiming for in our new waterfront home. The install went fine but the minute the sun went down the strobe light effect began . We tried compact florescent, LED and plain old incandescent bulbs to no avail. I tried adjusting the sensitivity and time duration again to no avail . I'm Glad we only bought one fixture at first , we have a need for at least 3 more but not a chance now. Poor job Newport Nautical this is a beautifully designed fixture , too bad the engineering is sub par. I'll be taking it down in the morning . I don't have the box to return it in so I've basically squandered away $45 . Thanks !

            I loved everything about this light fixture EXCEPT that it cannot be installed more than seven feet off the ground or the sensor will not pick up motion. I do not recall reading that in the online description or I would not have purchased this light fixture. It makes sense (hindsight) because of the way the non adjustable sensor is placed. This light was returned because I wanted it for the center peak of my garage.

            I bought these lights online due to no store stock, and about 2-3 months ago finally was able to get them installed (my handyman had medical issues). They didn't work until I read don't use CFL bulbs. Bought new LED bulbs... worked until the sundown. Then the strobe lights began. Only one worked as it should, while the rest went on and off continuously. Thinking I got a bad batch, I bought 4 more at the store and had my guy take down the old ones and put up the new ones. Same strobe lights. I had to have my guy take all of them down and rebox them for return. So now I'm out $100 in handyman labor and have no lights. So I return the lights to the store - the associate gives me a hard time due to the date, The manager agrees to refund my money but nothing for my costs, aggravations, and time. "Home Depot can't help you." Well, Lowes sure can-which is where all of our business will go including all of our remodel business on the rental homes were have been buying. I'm done with Home Depot

              Using at seashore because anything not plastic rusts! The motion detector is adjustable and is working very well. The install was to replace existing lights so it was easy. Just remember to screw in the screws that hold the light fixture into the clamp/cross before screwing the clamp/cross to the outlet box!
