Prior to installation, we recommend setting your fan to it's highest fan speed and ssliding the fan control's slider to high. You're absolutely right about removing the fins - it's important to ensure that when using these controls in a multi-gang application t​​o check what the wattage or amperage reduces to from breaking off fins.
