How to Stop the Leaks
Love the drain but it leaked badly when I first installed it. After some research, I arrived at a method that works (I installed three of these the same way - no leaks). I used Oatey Stain Free Plumbers Putty and some Teflon Tape for the threads. The upper gasket that goes on the top side of the sink, coat both sides with Plumbers Putty. I included photos. Use Teflon Tape on the threads both where the nut goes and also where the tail pipe goes. Again, see the photos. This stopped all leaks.

Paid premium
price and bought 2. Installed on brand new Kraus sinks. Both Leaked. Looked on Internet and common problem. Had to tape the threads to get it to stop leaking. Silly me thinking if I bought the same brand of drain as the sinks everything would be easy.

The Kraus pop-up drain is a very nice product and far superior to a lot of ones I looked at. The only issue I had was leaking around the drain threaded portion where the large nut compresses the lower seal to the bottom of the sink. I had this problem with both I installed one to a greater extent that the other. I solved this problem by wrapping yellow teflon tape, used for gas fittings, around that threaded bit and that solved the problem. I initially did try tightening the nut even more than I thought best all to no effect so the teflon tape. But otherwise I would have given these 5 stars.

A really nice pop-up drain, probably better than I needed to install since it was going into a rental unit. However, I didn't want to have any problems with maintenance, so I decided to spend a few more dollars and get something that was durable and would last for a long time.
I read all of the other reviews and applied a liberal amount of plumber's putty as well as the white tape to eliminate leaks. No problems there. The only problem that I had was with the length of the tailpiece; it needed to be about 1" longer to reach my p-trap. I picked up a tailpiece extender for about $4.00, though, and all was good.

I bought this to go with my Kraus sink. The install was pretty straight forward but we had to use pipe joint compound on the threads to stop it from leaking. There simply isn’t a good seal. Other reviews said plumbers tape, but that wasn’t enough. Now that it’s not leaking we are happy with it.

We also recommend ensuring the hole within your counter top is at least 4" - 5" in diameter which would be large enough for the concave washer to be able to get pressed up against the bottom of the sink directly.
