Needs battery back-up
This device is very nice and well made. It can save money and quickly pays for itself. I would give it five stars if it had a battery back-up to maintain the programmed time during power outages so you wouldn't have to reset the clock which is fairly easy to do. All in all, I like it and recommend it.

Purchased to reduce water heater electrical costs. Perfect adition for energy reduction. Run 1 hour in the am and 1.5 hours in the pm. Have not noticed drop in temp yet. waiting on first electric bill after installation.
Installation was easy. Reused wiring from wall to WH.

Easy DIY project
I know electricity is life threatening for those that do not know how to manage it, but with the instructions and guidance of multiple videos you can do it yourself and save at least 100-200$ on labor

monkey love
I put this on as a timer for a swimming pool pump. It works well, but the start and end thingamabobs (the two clip like things that turn the switch on and off when the dial comes around) are like half stripped coming out of the bag and you can't get them tight enough so they constantly fall off, defeating the purpose of a time.

what a p.o.j.
I had hoped that by installing this product it would reduce astronomical local energy costs but, not so much. My timer failed just after the 1 year warranty replacement period. Even when it did work, it was noisy and could be heard from it's location in the attic in the homes interior. I doubt I even recouped the purchase price etc. thru energy savings in that amount of time. Color me disappointed.

Timer was easy to install and program
Bought this timer to replace a timer that was 20 years old. It was made by the same company that manufactured the new one. The old one was almost worn out so since it gave so many years with no problems I stuck with the same thing. The new one was easy to install and program and runs very quite. This one also has a view port so you can see the motor turning and the override switch is now mounted outside the door so you don't have to open the door to override the timer. So far it is working great. Saving me money on my power bill as well.

Install was simplified by electrician freind. Was able myself after reading directions, but my time was not available for it.
Timer is merchandised with easy to follow directions and highly visible features inside the product to guide install.. The product is packaged for the average DIYER to facilitate easy wiring and fitted to any inside locations.

Nice, simple, mechanical clock
It took my husband a couple of tries to get our older wiring to match the directions. Once he had that set up, it also took a couple of tries to figure out how the little start and stop things attached to the ring. They don't exactly fit into the indented ring, but eventually securely attached with the thumb screws. It has worked effectively to turn the water heater off and on when we have it scheduled.

Does just what it's supposed to do
It is easy to install if you can do the most basic wiring. The on-off functions are activated by screw-on pointers that mount easily and firmly. There's an external lever if you need to temporarily override the presets.
We have our water heater set to turn on for a few hours each morning and each evening. I am taking it on faith that it saves power, though. I have no comparative data to show that it is truly effective.

Reliable, sturdy timer
Had one of these in our apartment a few years ago. It paid for itself in three months. Just bought one for my mother in law. With her, it'll pay for itself in two months. It keeps time quite consistently. External override switch is a nice touch, and works well. Easy installation with 1/2" knock-outs. Water heaters don't use the neutral wire, and neither does this timer.

Going back to analog for a water heater timer
After trying a GE 7 day digital timer and having it fail after two years I researched manual analog timers. I have been using one at work for over 20 years without a problem. The Intermatic little gray box WH40 was given high marks by all and seems to be living up to the hype. The one complaint of noise must have been an isolated instance or operator induced. I went with the version that has the outside switch so my wife would not open the box.

In stock
Intermatic time clocks are inherently reliable, which more than I can say for Home Depot's stock or computer system. I order on-line just to be sure my 30+ mile one way trip isn't in vain..

Water Heater Timer to save $.....
Timer is easy to use and should begin saving money on my utility bill. Have not had it long enough yet to see the savings, but it definitely cycles the heater on and off as it is programmed to do. Had it installed by a pro., so I cannot comment on install.

Works great
Water is staying surprisingly hot with wtr htr after installing this device. I have the 'On' time set at two times dailly for approx two hrs each time. So 'Off' time for wtr htr is approx 20 hrs. Should see saving of elec consumption and wtr htr wear.
