Excellent Mower..very happy!
Honda makes a really great mower, and this is no exception. Living here in Alabama, I have to cut my .5 acres every 5 days or so, and this Honda mower is keeping up perfectly. The grass is perfectly cut and even. This mower is so much better than my Craftsman, I will never buy anything but a Honda mower from now on.

Manufacturing defect-poor quality controll
As we pulled mower from box, the rear plastic shield protector fell off the mower. Imagine, it was shipped this way! We tried making the long pin that holds the shield in place work, but there is no way this pin will work, its a defect. Took it to our Home Depot, they took a pin out of floor model mower, but by the time we got mower home, the shield fell off again. And, this is a Honda product??

Great Mower
I wanted a non self-propelled mower that just mowed. I didn't want bags, mulching etc. Just a mower. That is hard to find these days. This is a great mower. Starts on the first pull every time. It actually has a throttle (try to find another mower with a throttle) and it has a very handy gas valve. You shut the valve off at the end of the year and run the mower out of gas. Voila! No bad gas in the spring. Just run it out of gas and don't worry about it until spring. So many nice features. It's very well balanced. I find during normal mowing that I am lifting the front of the mower off the ground because it is so light. Has adjustible wheels too. I only have 2 complaints but they are minor. This is an honest review though. 1. The side discharge is kind of cheap.; It falls off if you hit the slightest thing. I can tell I am the only one left in the USA that leaves cut grass on their yard. It's funny that people bag grass (incredibly great fertilizer) and then pay money to fertilize their yard. 2. The mower deck has a weird lip built in to the side that catches wet grass and it builds up. You can't mow grass if it is wet. I like to mow it early in the morning when it is cooler but have had to change that so it doesn't clog up the side discharge.

Well built, quality product.
Was not packaged well. Mower handles had punched through the shipping box, and were scratched. Mower was easy to start, and height adjustment was easy. Happy with this mower, I wanted a mower to trim with, did not want it to be powered, or bagging attachment. Was just what I had been looking for. Had to order online, as this mower was not sold in the store. Most people want a self-powered mower. Expensive, but should last a long time if well cared for.

great product
on arrival i found the mower to have a jammed height adjuster on one rear wheel and the protective shield on the rear of the deck was broken off. both were resolved by home depot with just one phone call. the mower has the power to mow thru fairly tall grass without struggleing, it does a great job of mulching and runs very quietly. i found it to be great on gas usage. all in all a great product that appears that it will last for many years to come.

Great mower! Perfect for me!
Having used other, more complicated mowers that didn't work terribly well before, I was in the market for something simple that would work reliably every time without much hassle. In my opinion, this mower is everything I need and nothing I don't. It has simple, straightforward controls with a choke and a throttle, ergonomic and comfortable handle, plenty of power to go through anything you can throw at it, and an engine that is almost bulletproof. If you take care of this mower, it will probably last a lifetime. My yard is small (about 0.4 acres of grass and 0.6 acres of woods), so I didn't need a self-propelled mower. This is a "yard" that is being mowed, not a "lawn," so bagging was not of interest. I found the discharge chute to hook on easily and firmly. You would have to be trying pretty hard to knock it off, since it is held in place by the deck door. Also, I could mow my entire yard with about a cup (1/4 tank) of gas. I am impressed and hope to use this mower for a long ,long time. Thanks, HD!

A poor design executed with high quality
I ordered the entry level Honda push mower as I dislike self-propelled or rear-bagging mowers. Assembly was quite straight forward. Setting mower height is a mystery as the front-rear increments to not match. The manual confuses you further, by showing the front and rear settings as coming from different mower models. It cranked on the first pull and exhibits loads of power with low vibration and low noise. But pushing this mower is a real trial. For the price it should have ball bearing wheels. After cutting my yard with it the first time (.80 acres) I lifted the deck and studied the machine, to see why it left so much broad-leaf still standing....and I saw the problem. It is a vented mower. I would not have purchased it had I known. The descriptive info both on Honda's and Home Depot's sites omits this key consumer-essential fact. Vented decks are an idea that does not work, have been down this road with both lawn tractors and push mowers. The deck appears to be the same deck used for the self-propelled and rear bagging models, without the pressed openings. This makes the machine harder to manuever, and needlessly heavy. Also, throttle placement and design allows a brush with a bush to slow the engine down. I am mulling over the idea of returning the machine, except there are so few decent choices in this sub-genre of push mowers. to summarize, it feels like a $320 engine on a $30 deck.

      Good, but...
I purchased this online because no stores in the area sell Honda push mowers; they only carry self-propelled models. This is a replacement for the exact same model purchased 10 years ago. That mower still runs and works well, but over the years it has gotten a little hard for my wife to start. For the first 7 years it would start on the first pull, even for her. Opened the box, unpacked mower. The handle retaining bolt was bent, and thus the 3-pronged wing-nut could not be tightened down all the way to the tubular steel handle. There is a notice on the mower that says "mower needs oil", or something like that. There is an included oil bottle. Instructions state to add the entire bottle (12 oz). Did so. Filled with gas. Started up on first pull. Mowed the yard. The next week went to mow the yard but the mower ran very rough with diminished power and lots of smoke from muffler. Checked air filter--looked clean. Changed fuel. No help. Checked spark plug--fouled. went back and pulled out air filter. Looked clean but saturated with oil. Checked owners manual. The manual states the mower has oil added at the factory and the mower is started. But, before shipping the oil is drained out. BUT, the amount of oil drained is variable. I drained the oil out of the mower into a measuring bucket. 17 oz. So, 5 oz of oil were still in the machine when it arrived. So, following the enclosed recommendation to "add the entire bottle of oil" caused a problem. Refilled mower with 12 oz oil. Started without air filter in place--ran perfectly. Went to Home depot to get a new air filter. The genuine Honda replacement filter package said it fit #'s of mowers that all corresponded to self-propelled models, but did not list the HRS push model. Consulted the manual in the store--it didn't list the HRS 216 or any parts for it. Asked an employee for help. She got on the computer and tried looking it up. I'd written down the serial number off the filter I'd taken out of the mower--the one in the store was similar, but not the same as the filter in my mower. The Honda website provides the manual to the mower. Went through the index. Areas that talk about air filter or maintenance point out the air filter, but don't list the serial number. Went home, got the filter, returned to the store. The filter that fits the self propelled mowers is the same for the push. Why not list the push mower # on the filter pack? Anyway, I really like the mower (or else I wouldn't have bought another one), but the bent bolt (with no damage to the box indicating mishandling), the instruction to add the entire bottle of oil, and the confusion regarding the air filter all suggest Honda needs to tighten up the ship a little bit.

I am very happy with this mower
I am very pleased with this mower. It does start every time on the first pull. Does a excellent job cutting the grass and I have been using it to clear underbrush. It just whacks the underbrush to pieces like nothing to it. Engine has plenty of power in the tall grass. Only drawback it the grass deflecter just hooks into place and you have to learn to not run into things or you will knock it off, then you have to stop the mower to hook it back on. It uses very little gas, easy to push, easy to start. I have only used it a month so don't know about long term.

      Nice mower
I ordered this mower on a Saturday and it was delivered on Wednesday. That's quick! This is a well built, sturdy mower that fits my purposes perfectly. It exudes the kind of quality feel and look that typify Honda products. The mower set up easily and took only a few minutes to assemble and prepare for operation. I bought this mower because I needed a mower for mowing areas around trees and mulch beds that I couldn't reach easily with my tractor. For this purpose, I didn't need a bag or self-propelled capability. The mower is well engineered and constructed. The handles attach to the deck in a very secure fashion which is important to me, since most of my mowing is done turning right or left, or pushing in and out. The engine starts on the first or second pull and is powerful and quiet. Grass is mulched into fine particles and deposited under the mower. The only downside is that the mower was slightly damaged in transit. One of the studs that secure the handle to the frame took a whack and was bent. I straightened it out well enough, but it is annoying that my brand new mower was delivered damaged. This is the problem with shipping something this size by UPS. The parcel is going to get dropped, kicked, smashed, etc. because it is just too big to handle. It's a pity that Home Depot doesn't sell this model in their stores.

      High quality mower.
I wanted a simple mower that was quality made without self-propel. Toro, John Deere, had self-propel feature. I've had too many self-propel mowers in the past which break after the warrenty expires. The mower does have a plus a real " Honda engine". Quiet operation, metal deck and fuel shut-off switch. Home Depot offer of free shipping was a saving. I priced this same mower from other suppliers and they added shipping. The mower was shipped in an original Honda product box and shipped UPS. The mower was in perfect condition and the box was also in perfect condition. Very please to purchase this on-line.

      Honda HRS Mower
A very disappointing experience with my Honda Mower from the start. When I took it out of the box to get the mower ready for use unfolding the handle and trying to tighten the knobs the one on the left side was striped from poor assembly was jammed and cross threaded to start after reversing the left to the right and the right to the left was finally able to get them tight with some difficulty. After filling the oil and the gas the mower did start with the first pull <A Good Thing> but with the mower set at the 1 1/2" height setting was missing some spots of grass not cutting the grass very well had to go back over several times to get it. The grass was not that high at all and was NOT thick at all should been able to cut it without any problem. Being a NEW blade and mower this was unexceptionable ! Even with my 20 year old mower it cut the grass better ! As I continued the mower had a miss that you could hear at times and also in the 45mins I used it about 6 or 8 times sounded as if it was about to stall with it running at FULL speed and with fresh gas. Also found the mower hard to push and also hard to manoeuvre on my property around obstacles seemed very heavy. Bottom line very dissatisfied with this Honda product and in my opinion not worth the money. Would NOT Recommend.

        Honda Mower
This is an outstanding mower with excellent fuel efficiency. One tank lasted 6 mowing cycles, while my last mower needed a refill after each mowing. It is very easy starting (one pull) and quieter than my other mowers. I like the ability to control the throttle. The reason I replaced my last mower is because the auto choke-throttle broke. I added the optional top mulcher blade.

Happy, Happy, Maybe not so much.
I was glad I bought a Honda product because I was mechanically inclined as youngster with Hondas. Most Honda products certainly make the upper grade. This lawn mower is no different, except for only a couple of complaints. Mainly, I like to cut my grass taller than what most people would. I believe that taller grass is healthier. The mower has 6 height adjustments, however I really needed about 2 or 3 more to keep the grass taller. My old lawn mower went out with a bang, and since it was cheap to begin with I figured the money to repair it would be better spent on a better product. This mower starts easily and everything is as you would expect, very good quality. With all the rain in Florida's rainy season I wasn't able to mow my grass until it was a foot or more tall. I raised the wheels as high as they would go but ran over an iron reinforcement handle on the septic system and instantly ruined my blade. I had made a habit of mowing right over this reinforcement bar with the higher deck on the previous mower. Bummer. However, I will admit I could have been more careful, knowing the mower was lower. The grass here is very tough. But it worked O.K. until the blade was ruined. I noticed the same problem that another reviewer had. It doesn't discharge old lumps of grass easily at all. Maybe because the deck cannot be raised any higher? I thought to myself, "I would exchange this for a mower with a higher deck if it were as well built otherwise." Good mower, swolf

          Good No-Frills Push Mower
So far, so good. Starts easy with both cold and warm engine. Only complaint so far is that wet grass tends to clog the side discharge chute. Maybe this won't be the case with shorter grass, but has been enough trouble for me to only consider mowing after morning dew has dried up.

          running out of the box
I got this mower online, FREE shipping. I just wanted a plain GOOD mower that will run. I got a WELL build mower that ran right out of the box. Add fuel and oil, tightened the handle bars and it started right up. It's heavy, but with the wheels it just flys in the grass. About 50% quieter than my old mower. So far I love it and I hope it will last for years. I read the review, for trouble free mowing anf that is for me. a few buck more and you can get the best. HONDA, I say its worth it.

            Good Basic Push Mower
I ordered this online and got it via UPS 5 days later. It was easy to set up. I just unfolded the handle bar and tightened it in place, put the provided oil in it, and put some gas in it. Also, I adjusted the wheels to raise it up a little. I put the choke on, and it started on the second pull. Seems to run well so far. I'm surprised that for this price point it doesn't have an automatic choke system and just a set speed rather than a speed adjustment lever to mess with. That would be better and make this mower a 5 star to me. The one front wheel came a little bent inwards so it's not aligned perfectly, but it's not something that effects the operation of it and isn't a problem worth the hassle of exchanging it. The handle bar seems a little low and doesn't adjust. I'm 5 foot 10 inches so maybe it was designed for someone 5 foot 8 inches. Engine seems to run nice and quiet. My overall opinion is that this is a good basic mower so far.

            Great push mower!
Pros: Well built mower, with plenty of power, and cuts grass very cleanly. This is a very good, high quality mower from Honda. Cons: The separate side discahrge attachment is only held in place by the spring tension of the side mulch cover, and easily falls off while mowing. It would be good to have the side discharge attachment permanently attached.

                Awesome Workout Mower
Great mower! I returned the top-of-the-line Honda mower (cruise control, composite deck) because it was not fast enough for the way I really wanted to mow. When the grass is not real high and the mower can handle the cutting and the self-propel part would limit the walking speed, I want to wak pretty fast. Pushing definitely gives a workout on my sloped 3/4 acre yard. But afterward, I feel like I didn't just walk or ride around. Most mowers have a lot of play in the handle where it joins the deck, but this mower is anchored and makes for an efficient transfer of power and easy turning and maneuverability. I really like the solid and lightweight mower. No slop in the handle and no slop in the mulching! Positives: Strong engine, and all the power is used to cut the grass not drive the wheels, self-propelled mowers have a maximum speed and this one is limited only by the human engine, easy starting, simple operation, lightweight, very sturdy handle, easy to turn, good 8" wheels, good mulching, quick shipping and did not have to put it in my car, delivered hassel-free to my garage, no self-propel mechanism and cables to break or maintain. Negatives: A slight rain as I started my first mow in rather tall grass made the side discharge clog a lot. Once the grass dried, there was no problem. Wife doesn't like the push idea, just in case she has to use it once in a blue moon. No bag, but that's ok with me.
