Great engine & performance / reliabilty
This is my second one of these. I bought the first in April 1999, & after 13 years the engine starts flawlessly on the first pull, but the deck is rusting to where mower is no longer usuable. I received the new one from HD, just 3 days after ordering it online. Straighten the handle bars, tighten, add the included bottle of oil, gas it up & it started on first pull. It is identical to my 1999 model except the stickers/look & such have changed. I hope this one will last 13/14 years as well. Would highly recommend this HONDA push mower. Little over priced but I suppose you get what you pay for.

The mower ran poorly right of the box
I am going to have to take the thing somewhere to get it looked at since it runs poorly.

    Nice, smooth, efficient cut.
Replaced 10 yr old YardMachine. Switching from large rear wheels to all equal was an adjustment, but not difficult. Fuel valve is interesting. Instructions say to keep it open while mowing, but I find I need to keep it closed or it chokes out. Still getting used to throttle as previous mower did not have this feature. Very happy with the fineness of the clippings.

    Light-weight and easy to setup
I was looking for a lightweight, quality mower to use on a steep hill in my backyard. I am very pleased with the quality of the mower and the ease with which I can maneuver it on my backyard slope.

It's very good mower, light, cutting smooth.
I had this mower for 3yrs, I've never had prolem with it. I replaced twin blades with it that worked perfectly, I do recommend to anyone who like working out ( pushing )

    What bent bolts?
Mower is a little heavier than the cheapie Briggs mowers I'd been buying, but runs quiet and smooth. The handlebar bolts weren't bent -- I think the other reviewers who thought they were may not have been used to the Nylok knobs that secure the handlebars. They take some strength to tighten.

      Cuts Well, Hard to Push
This is a nice mower, but much harder to push than I expected, and much harder than the 16 year old generic one it replaced. The front wheels are way ahead of the cutting deck, so it doesn't trim close to objects in the front. It cuts very level, probably due to the super long wheelbase, which also makes it hard to turn, but go well in a straight line. It's very well built and starts the first time it fires, every time. Great engine, really qiuet and it has an adjustable engine speed control, which many others lack. From a function standpoint, it's really nothing special, but the best value I could find with an OHV engine and good for getting lots of exercise.

      Push mower
Great mower!! Its a typical Honda. Starts on the first pull and cuts great. Would recommend this mower to anyone wanting a dependable, well built mower. Its a little more expensive than some other brands, but you get what you pay for.

Great engine, but handle bar joints not thought through..
When I got the mower, I had to buy my own 1/4" wing nuts, and drill holes at the bottom of the handle bar and mower to fit with my own pins that I got from HomeDepot because the ones it came with didnt fit and were cheap. I had to install my own pins otherwise I wouldnt have been able to pick up the front wheels for turning and avoiding stumps. This design didnt make sense to me that it compelled me to write this review. The handle bar not installed properly with a downer, but after I tweaked it, the mower was a pleasure to use. It devoured thick grass with ease, cut very short, and the side exit attachment was a cinch to put on. Wouldve liked to have a folding handlebar for the price...but this was the mower I wanted. So, with this being a Honda, I hoping that this bad boy will last me a looong time with proper maintenance.

Good mower at a fair price.
Happy with my purchase. Mower already assembled and oil included. Was able to wheel out of the box, add oil and gas and start on first try. Much better than my previous Black and Decker electric mower.

Love to push Honda push mowers
I own four Honda HRS216 PDA mowers of various vintages. They are wonderful mowers that are easy to start, fuel efficient and very easy to push. The oldest has been used and abused, beginning its tenth season. The newest is just going into service. They are all at different properties, used by different people. Everyone likes them. The only chronic problem has been carburetors. At $18, ten minutes to replace, one wrench, no big deal, wear on the float, whole carb about the same cost as a float, life expectancy about five years, symptom running rich.

      Good, for the most part
No complaints with the mower itself but did have the issue common to many reviews on here: the carriage bolt for the handle was severely bent on one side. Not sure why they can't get this corrected.

worth the extra money compared to other brands
Ordered this mower to be delivered to my home, since the local Home Depot did not carry this non self-propelled mower in stock. Delivered to my home with no damage as some other reviewers have reported. Very easy to unpack. Just added the included engine oil and filled with gas and started on the first pull! Have already used the mower twice. Appears to be typical excellent Honda quality. Engine extremely quiet with plenty of power. About 200 dollars more than the cheap ones at discount stores, but my previous mower lasted only two years. You really do get what you pay for.

      Great Mower
The mower fired up the first pull after I got it out of the box and got the gas and oil in it. Can’t complain about that! And I wasn’t even trying to pull it all the way through. The only issue I had with it was the angle in which the handle bar ends meet the chassis. They are bent to far inward from the factory and you have a very hard time folding the push handle over for storing the mower. Pulled the push handle off, put it in my vise, and bent the ends outward. Now the push handle folds up no problem. Other than that, the mower is great. Considered buying a John Deere mower before this, but read a lot of bad reviews on them. Read the reviews on the Honda mowers, and nothing but good stuff. Also have two Honda motorcycles and they run and run. Figured the mower will do the same. Bottom line, I’d buy this mower again in a heartbeat.

Not worth the $$$ at all
Mower does not cut the grass good at all and does NOT start on the first pull most of the time and very heavy and hard to push and to maneuver. Come on people do you really know what is good ?? Seems not !!!!

Depending on needs, may be best push mower on market
A previously had the same model Honda that lasted for 10 years before it appears the valves were shot. None-the-less, it is among the lightest mowers and best mulchers for my steep front lawn. I didn't want a heavy rear bagger and power drive adds weight and can tend to tear up grass like a rototiller on steep inclines. This design is well made, well balanced, light, relatively quiet for a mower, I love the handle shape as opposed to competitors, and when you purchase the special two blade mulching system, it makes the mower an even better mulcher. On the negative side, it is expensive for a push, and you must watch out for those valves after years of use (as opposed to simpler designs). In addition, be careful if you turn it on it's side (cleaning undercarriage or changing blade), as the mower design has a habit of flooding the air filter and then not starting. In addition, the carbs tend to be extra sensitive to bad gas... so don't by 20 gallons with your discount card to "stock up" for the summer. Depending on use and the mower's low fuel consumption, just by a gallon or two at a time and pick up more as needed. Also, when storing for winter, make sure you either completely drain fuel or use fuel stabilizer.

For the price, you can't beat it.
Just the right lawnmower for me: lightweight, easy to use, starts on the first or second try. I especially like the handle as it makes pushing easy on my injured neck/back.

Good mower but I prefer self-propelled mowers with bagging options
The Honda mower was very well made, with a smooth and quiet engine. It did not mulch well and didn't have a bagging option so I returned it to Home Depot for a refund. After the refund, I purchased a similar Honda mower from Home Depot which is self-propelled and has a bagging option. This mower works really well. The customer service representatives at Home Deport were great.

      quality mower
      A good quality product. low gasoline consumption. quieter than most. nice cut, yard looks healthier now. **not good on steep slopes. gasoline leaks out of the carburetor/air cleaner assembly. *!!!*Careful when adding supplied oil upon receipt. Check fill level while adding as it may not need the entire bottle. {only 4 stars because of the gas leaking on steeper slopes.}

      I would purchase this again
I recently bought this lawnmower and came with the bent bolts at bottom of handle. Got that repaired, and have mowed my 1/3 acre lawn 6 times since.I've been very happy with the mulching cut and starts first pull.Uses little fuel and is very quiet running. I 've had many mowers in the past and I really like the Honda the best overall.Everyone of these are delivered with bent bolts , the packaging is very poor design, too bad such a nice mower needs to start out like that.Home Depot, you need to correct this problem. One pull start, again and again and again.
As the owner of an Odyssey and a CR-V, I now have two more Honda's in my garage. Due to the reliability I've experienced with their automobiles, I just bought a Honda mower and a trimmer and love both so far. The mower starts with one pull, again and again and it's quiet, easy to push and mows nicely but not perfectly. The occasional blade of grass manages to escape being cut, resulting in an almost perfectly mowed yard. Honda recommends that you cross cut your yard, first mowing in one direction and then at a 90* angle to your initial cutting path. This essentially amounts to mowing your yard twice to achieve perfect results. When one follows this set of instructions, the results are impressive. I bought this Honda because I didn't want to buy a new lawn mower next year, or the year after that, or the year after that. sorry Home Depot... I won't be back to buy another mower for a long time, but when i return (eventually), I'll be purchasing a Honda.

      Very nice mower
Started on the first pull. Still starts on the first pull. Don't like the gas cap or the little plastic insert. Can't figure out why it is even there. Don't like the flap in the back, but it hasn't ever got in my way. Like the little plastic insert that changes it over to a mulcher. Very simple.

      Great basic lawn mower
This is a great, basic lawn mower; Very easy to start and a quiet, smooth operation. The only issues I have found to date are: 1) the air filter casing can be easily damaged when mowing near motor vehicles. 2) the oil is not as easy to change as previous lawn mowers I have owned.

      Nice mower!!!
The mower runs nice and cuts well. However, I had a one small issue with the packaging. One of the bolts that hold the handle in place was bent in shipping. I would also like to see a better mechanism for attaching the side discharge shute. It can become disattached too easily when bumped, such as when mowing under bushes.

used machine just once so far....seems OK not wonderful....not as maneuverable and compact as I would like.
my only real issue so far with the purchase is that Home Depot should consider improving packing. the machine came with one bent bolt...I had to straighten it out with a tool to be able to clamp handlebar. the front wheels also appeared mis aligned with something like the shaft, perhaps between the wheels slightly bent. I have not figured what is wrong here yet and just got the machine going....which worked pretty much straight out of the box which was good.
