Easy to use and worked great to punch holes and install grommets in a medium duty outdoor commerical vinyl sign. This unit performed properly and left my eyelets perfectly and professionally shaped. The combination 3/8 and 1/2 inch kit available in store did not, the length and shape of the punch made all the difference.

Quality kit with everything you need to set grommets

I didn't want to spend several hundred on a super-sturdy tarp for a trailer so bought a recycled one without grommets, and this kit. Unfortunately, this kit is not designed for super-sturdy vinyl material. After one attempt I gave up the idea as it proved impossible to make decent holes with the hole-cutting die. It would be helpful if the kit description included the weight/type of material it is suitable for. Also, we suspected that the cutting die would become blunted by repeated use.

Yes, it will install a grommet, the supplied grommets are very thin, but will work under light loads.

Wanted a grommet kit to install more grommets on plastic tarp. Did a little research and saw many of the tolls in the kits to be inferior, frail pieces. The installation tools with this kit are sturdy, well made heavy metal pieces. Also, the kit has real brass grommets that won't rust, unlike a lot of other kits with brass colored tin or steel grommets.

The tool set works well. One problem I noticed was that the mandrel would stick hard in the grommet when I hammered it down solid. The first one I did took some effort to release the mandrel. After that I used a 7/8 box end wrench to knock the grommet free from the mandrel. I was doing this on a concrete floor in the garage so I would just remove the anvil and set the mandrel point on the floor, slide the wrench over the mandrel and smack the handle of the wrench right near the mandrel. It would pop the grommet free easily. The ad info doesn't say how many grommets come with the kit but the "package quantity" says 48 total items so I was expecting more than 12 grommets. I needed more than that so I had to buy more grommets after I got the kit from an online order and saw that there were not enough with it for my project. My local store did have those in stock so I didn't have to place another online order and wait for that to arrive.

This is the best grommet fastener I have used. The punch is a joke. Had to buy a separate punch set from another dealer.

The tool does not go into the base portion sufficiently to set grommets tightly in thin materials. On heavy material like canvas it is satisfactory.

Allowed me to fix my tarp that I use on my carport. The new grommets are holding up after 2 months. They have survived a few strong storms. Easily paid for itself in just one use.

Was used to attach a shade fabric over a pergola. The hole cutter wasn't the sharpest edge. Scissors helped. Only used them a couple of days ago so nothing about longevity of the grommets.

I have purchased a grommet tool before and this one works just as well.

After reading about other grommet kits and downfalls, this one worked well and accomplished exactly what I needed for my project, without breaking the budget.

I used the General 3/8" Grommet Kit to install grommets on large artists canvas and it worked perfectly to punch the holes and set the grommets. The kit includes brass grommets, better than some other brands which are not brass. I used a 1 lb sledge hammer with a light touch, instead of the light ball and peen hammer suggested.

Worked well. The cutter didn't last too long but it did it's job.

Perfect for household repair. While I would question the durability if used daily or for heavy duty applications, it works wonderfully for that occasional repair use around the house.

I guess Home Depot is not the place to buy a grommet kit to use for tarps.

Works great with one exception. The round tube for cutting the hole in the fabric almost doesn't work at all. It works somewhat and I just used my fingers to finish holes in canvas. I may just try using a screwdriver for hole next time. The grommet kit itself was so easy my teenager used it quite a bit and it worked very well. The grommets have held in canvas for a few months with some serious wind in Arizona lately so I am quite impressed with it.

These did a wonderful job. I would highly recommend them unless you need to break up some concrete. Then a rotary hammer would be better. These are very good. I would have no hesitation in getting them the next time the need arises.

Was having a HUGE amount of difficulty hammering a hole through a thin layer of canvas. No sure if that was the ideal fabric but it was listed on the back of packaging with the rest of recommended materials so i expected it to work ... Finally came up with the idea to put the hollow punch into an electric drill and it worked like a charm!! Save me hours of time and frustration. Grommets were easily assembled once the holes were in place. Happy with my replacement canvas for the boat and ended up saving a lot of money doing it myself.

While I can see how it would be tricky to keep all of the pieces together after the initial use, inserting grommets into a thick piece of fabric or through our tarp was actually very easy. I was worried it was going to be a daunting task, but it only took up about 45 minutes to add about 30 grommets.
