Customer Reviews for GE Adora Spacemaker 1.9 cu. ft. Over-the-Range Microwave in Black-DISCONTINUED

We replaced a Sharp OTR microwave we had put in when we built in 1994. It quit and we got our money's worth. This microwave, has us happy to this point (1 month). Ours vents to the roof and the 400 CFM fan is really better than the previous and worth looking at, if you plan to vent to the exterior or use existing (which we were able to use) Only drawbacks is this one has a handle, while our other one did not. And Popcorn cooking (see below) The interior being like an oven, while darker, is really something we like. The popcorn function is lousy and we are just doing a timed full power cook. The reheat function is very nice compared to old one. I seems to use just the right amount to heat up from the fridge and not dry out. I chose to install myself and was really nervous about it, but it was relatively easy taking about 3 hours total to install. Had to cut some backsplash tile and drilling for a different pattern of holes versus the old install. Install the new bracket, two people to lift and catch the fasteners to finger tight.

The biggest concern I have with this specific micro wave is quality. Upon installation it created a grinding noise as the turntalbe made it's rotation at a certain point. This required a service call by GE in which the lower motor for the turntable was replaced and the plastic race below the plate was forwarded to me, problem solved. The latest concern, again quality, is the pad surface is bubbling at the typical functions being used. I will be contacting GE to see if there is another protective layer of plastic for the touch pad face or if this will require another service call. Price was not the best but it matches the replacement stove.

I love the easy-to-clean ceramic interior and number of vent and light options, but I can't get over how much darker this microwave is compared to my other stainless steel appliances. Looks more like a matte dark gray than a shiny stainless steel.

I like everything about this product, except that, even though it is supposed to be higher powered than many other microwaves, it seems to take a little longer to heat things up. Otherwise, it is quite, the fan works well, the lighting is great, and it looks fantastic, inside and out.

The internal mounting nut for the top left screw breaks loose and spins once the screw starts tightening. This happened on two different units. This is one of the screws that attaches the microwave to the cabinetry above the microwave. As a result, the installation contractor pulled the nut through the sheet metal of the microwave in order to remove it. I'm glad he did not destroy the cabinet.

Fit the space perfectly and has worked great, did have to read instructions i.e cooking a potatoe takes a few extra buttons to push

I bought this in Nov 2012 and it stopped working with in a few months. Had to call service.

It not only looks great,it performs great.I like the Energy Saver Mode it features.It`s simple and easy to use, My last GE Microwave lasted for 16 years, I can only hope for the same.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I think that this is an excellent product and the only reason for rating the QUALITY Good instead of Excellent is because the keypad on the predecessor GE product failed after 3 years. The estimates to replace the keypad were too high to justify repairing the unit instead of replacing it. Since we were happy with the old unit it failed, we decided to purchase the same unit, only a later model. The decision was based on price and performance. Hopefully, we will get a longer service period with this new unit.

Bought in May 2012 had to have it repaired twice. Great price if it would stay operational.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This GE unit model DVM1950DR1BB is an excellent and relatively inexpensive appliance. With the exception of power levels this unit would be rated a excellent or 5 stars. I find it is underpowered for warming up beverages when a time to cook is manually inputted. Would purchase another GE without reservation.

As far as the way this microwave operates, I have no problem. I like the very large interior as well as the blue enamel finish rather than white. The controls are easy to use and I like the way it functions. However, I do not care for the way the door is manufactured. The inside plastic covering of the door is rippled. Whenever I clean it, it presses in and out. We have had an ongoing saga with GE over this. They have sent out repairmen several times and have ordered me 2 new doors, which have the same issue. I might add that the sample in the store did NOT have this issue. Finally, GE has washed their hands and said since there is no problem with the operation of the microwave, there is nothing else they can do. Even though this is not their Profile or Cafe line, this is by no means their "low grade" model and I would expect more in the way of quality control and customer satisfaction. I also have the Adora french door fridge and that has issues as well. The Adora range and dishwasher are fine. I am not too thrilled with GE at this point.

We purchased the GE Adora microwave approximately 2.5 years ago, magnetron failed this week. Not covered by warranty and cost to fix it is $165. Microwave should last 10+ years, this model is a lemon, review other complaints on the web. Not sure why HD even carries this model as it is no longer advertised on GE's website and I can see why.

Only problem we had is the light bulbs in the underside of the unit burned out within 60 days of purchase. Customer support shipped new bulbs which I installed. No other issues.

IF YOU BUY MODEL NUMBER DVM1950, IT TELLS YOU TO BUY THE WRONG CHARCOAL FILTER. BE SURE TO GO TO GE'S WEBSITE OR CALL THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO GET THE CORRECT CHARCOAL FILTER PART NUMBER. THE MANUAL ACTUALLY TELLS YOU IN 2 DIFFERENT PLACES, 2 DIFFERENT FILTER PART NUMBERS TO BUY. NEITHER OF THESE FILTERS IS THE CORRECT FILTER FOR THE DVM1950. THE MANUAL IS FOR 3 DIFFERENT MODEL NUMBERS,MAYBE THET FIT THE OTHER MODELS, THOUGH IT DOES NOT SPECIFY WHICH FILTER GOES WITH WHICH MODEL NUMBER. I HAVE WASTED SEVEAL HOURS BUYING AND THEN TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO INSTALL A FILTER THAT DOES NOT FIT. I CAN NOT COMMENT FURTHER AS I HAVE ONLY HAD THE MICROWAVE FOR A FEW DAYS, AND IT WORKS JUST FINE.

This GE oven has exceeded our expectations especially considering the cost. Delivery was on time and the delivery men were efficient and courteous! Excellent experience from purchase to delivery.

I've been using this microwave for a year. No complaints. In fact, what I am most pleased with is how evenly food cooks so it doesn't splatter nearly as much as my old Whirlpool. I had no idea food could cook more evenly in a microwave without having to constantly stop and stir. The basic controls are easy to use, with some nice quick cooking buttons. I occasionally use defrost and popcorn settings, but don't use any other features. Stainless steel finishes are always a problem with streaks and fingerprints, but the GE finish is better than others. Bonus, I like that you can turn off all the annoying beeps. Nice!

This microwave is great! It looks nice and has a lot of useful features. The melt/soften button works perfectly on both butter and cream cheese. The buzzer when it is done is loud enough to be heard, but not annoying. The light has 2 settings, and the lower setting is great for a nightlight. The fan has several speeds. It is a little loud on the High Boost, but I never need to run it any higher than medium anyway. I have never had the problem with the crooked door that several people have complained about. All in all it is a great microwave and I highly recommend it!

I have this microwave for only 2 months and it has been working fine so far. The fan seems to have decent suction power. The only complaint is that the microwave top surface does not fit the cabinet very well and there is quite a visible gap.

Barely a year old and it made popping sound and went dead. Obviously just out of warranty coverage. Would not buy again.

When we bought our home, we bought a GE Adora microwave from Home Depot. The thing died after 18 months. It was too expensive to fix, so we bought another GE Adora microwave from Home Depot. 15 months- DEAD. This microwave is the biggest piece of junk. Do not buy it- period!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've had no problems with the GE Adora microwave since installing. Looks great and big easy to read and use buttons (especially good for my kids). I researched microwaves on-line and through Consumers Reports and found this one to be a great value. I especially like the energy saver button to cut power when not in use.

Purchased all GE Appliances for kitchen. Microwave had 1 yr. warrenty. After one year and 5 months its smoked. I would have been better to go walmart and buy a cheap one as to buy a $400 GE. Very dissapointed in quality. Hope my other appliances hang in there. Called customer service and they said they wanted someone to come out and repair it. Since it was still new. Even if they cover some of the repair bill I might as well just buy a new one. Will definatly do my research on this one and it wont be GE junk.

Easy to use panel. Easy to clean interior. Cooks evenly. Easy to install. The door fits and meshes perfectly with the unit.

Original microwave installed in February 2012, had problems with the power, a second unit was installed in April 2012 and after a power outage in June, the microwave has never work again, service came and now waiting for a part. Use to have a GE Profile for 12 years and never any problems, this Adora line is not reliable, at least not the microwave.

Family loves this microwave. Really like that it is dark inside and not white. Love the multiple fan settings. Looks very sleek and stylish.

Delivery and installation was super. They arrived in the time frame, and even put the old one in the trunk of my husband's vehicle.
