Customer Reviews for GE 30 in. Single Electric Wall Oven Standard Cleaning with Steam in Black

I bought this about a year ago and hate it so much I want to write this review to warn others off. I refer to it as my moron appliance. What do I hate about it? 1. It takes FOREVER to preheat, and while it's preheating, the display just says 'PrE' the whole time, instead of giving the temperature readings as it warms up so you know how close you are to the temperature you want. 2. There is no way to turn the interior light on while the door is closed, so to check on anything in the oven you have to open the door and let the heat escape. Just plain idiotic. 3. There is no self-clean function. There's something called steam clean, but when I used it the water never evaporated into steam and the oven was not a bit cleaner than before. 4. To set the temperature, you always have to start at 350 and go up or down from there. I often bake at 425 or hotter, so I almost always have to stand there with my finger on the button. My old oven automatically started at the temperature I had last used. Duh! 5. The timer keeps on bleating until you walk over and turn it off. Fine if you are using it to time something you have to take out of the oven anyway, a real pain in the neck if you are using it to time something else in the kitchen and you have to stop what you're doing, walk over and hit the button to stop it from beeping. I think that's it, but if I had more time to write this review, I'd probably think of other things I don't like.

Just bought a new house with GE kitchen appliances.The lack of an oven light switch is driving my wife crazy. A definite oversight or poorly thought out cost savings measure.

I had this oven installed two weeks before Christmas. I m having to adjust to how I cook not because there is a problem with the oven, just my old one must have been so poor. Warm up time seems good. It does tend to cook a little hot so I have to watch baked goods at the end of cooking so it wont over cook.

This oven looks nice and it's certainly one of the lowest stainless prices around, but .....it only has one heating element (compared to the two of our old GE oven), so it warms up very slowly. Also you can't turn on the light inside except by opening the door. Overall we bought it for a rental property and it's perfect.

wanted a good and simple oven with out all the electronic gadgets.

As of this date, the oven is working just great. Nothing fancy, but do the job that we expected.

Overall this is a great oven! We have it in our basement as a 2nd oven. Looks great, great controls and everything cooks as expected. Wish it had a better self clean option.

This oven is very quiet and cooks evenly. It has a nice design. Very simple and easy to handle.

I do wish it had a light inside so you could see things while they are cooking. Also, the hit air vents to inside. It really makes the kitchen hot.

Looks nice with it's companion, a GE refrigerator.

This oven is a running joke among my friends and I. No one can believe an oven would be made with a light that only comes on if you open the door!!!!! They think that maybe I am making things up. This oven came with the house we purchased a year ago and we've just recently replaced it because WHO WANTS AN OVEN WITH A LIGHT THAT ONLY COMES ON WHEN YOU OPEN THE DOOR??????? The final straw was when my son asked if we could do Shrinky Dinks. We most certainly could not because you have to watch them shrink through the door WITH THE LIGHT ON!!!!! We are trying to sell it on Craigslist and I'm hoping to avoid that subject with the buyer. I mean, I've bought cheap ovens (like 1/2 the price) for rental properties before and they had a switch for the light. Other than the stupid light, I did notice that the oven took FOREVER to pre-heat. I don't recall ever having an oven that took so long. We replaced the oven with another GE that fits the same wall space, but actually has two separate ovens AND both ovens have a button to turn the light on! Honestly, I cannot believe this oven retails for $1000!! I know some folks are thinking, "well, who cares if the light only comes on when you open the door?". Trust me, you have been warned!!! It will drive you nuts!

Easy to operate, easy to clean. Love the extra wide inside that fits all my big cookie sheets. Only drawback I've found is no way to turn inside light on without cracking door.

PROS: - Looks very good! - Bakes like a PRO!! Excellent. - Very simple to operate. I like everything about the oven, with a few exceptions... CONS: - Worst Con - Cannot switch light on unless you open the door??? Real bad idea - you cannot open the door during cooking - for successful baking!!!!! - Advertised as 'Easy-Fit...although it replaced a 30" oven there is a 4" open gap at the top of the opening?? I now have to put spacers underneath...and then find something black to close the gap at the bottom. - Steam Clean not very effective - doesn't warm up enough. - A little slow to heat up. - Door not closing fully on the top right side...maybe it will 'wear-in'??

Don't buy this model ! We renovated our kitchen with all GE appliances because we trusted the brand. However, we installed this model before we realized it has no oven light control on the exterior - what were they thinking! You have to open the over door to see cooking in progress, which can affect the baking. I'm mad that I spent this much for it, plus installation, and GE didn't get the basics right. This wasn't disclosed when shopping online and in store.

Wall oven looks beautiful, but disappointed with how it works and lack of information on how to use. It doesn't have a small important feature to me that I had in my 12 year old oven, no light feature when door is closed, you have to open oven for light to go on. Preheat takes too long to get to desired temperature even with nothing in oven.

This is a very good product for the price and performs exactly as I expected . Would recommend the oven to anyone.

So lets get to the point. The display isn't very advanced, timer doesn't show seconds. NO LIGHT BUTTON?! constantly is making clicking sounds when baking. The sides are exposed so if you are able to look at it from that veiw doesn't have a good feel. I have only had it for 20 minutes and I already have regret. Not a happy consumer at all

I am pleased with the oven, only wish it had a light that you could turn on while baking to see how foods looks withou opening door, old one had it I loved it

The oven looks great, and cooks fine, but with the hidden heat coils it takes far to long to warm up We would rather have the exposed heat coils and clean around them. Also, not having an oven light switch is annoying, you have to open the oven door to look at the food. That causes heat loss, and a blast of hot air in your face.

Very disappointed in this product. No interior light unless door is open, exceptionally slow pre-heat cycle, steam cleaning feature worthless.

I like the new oven I just wish that had the lower heating coil where I could see it but it works great

Oven falls short for glancing at baking items without having to open door to get light to go on...letting heat escape. Loss of heating efficiency and inconvenient. Poor design--how could this have been overlooked? Very disappointed in GE.

I bought this product last month. I like this model but miss the light feature to view food while cooking from outside. The light comes on only when you open the door. My old GE oven did have a light feature.

Preheat takes too long. Can the heat be adjusted? Cooks hot and recipes have to be watched closely. Some are done on the outside but not completely throughout.

Love this oven for the price. Heats evenly and quickly.. Only wish you didn't have to open door for light to come on..

I just had this installed and from initial looks it looks great, very simple features but elegant. I tried baking with it yesterday and so far it works great with consistent baking temperature considering there is no lower heating element. So far it is working great and I can't wait to see how the steam clean works.

This is a replacement for a seven year old GE that expired prematurely.

I've had this oven for about 2 months. Not only does it look nice, it cooks nice. It's larger on the inside than my previous Profile. I would order this again!

I bought this product yesterday, cooking a ham in it at this moment...love it!

We had some troubles initially. There was a loud rattle upon installation. The GE mechanic came out and couldn't tell what was wrong with it. He assumed the fan, and ordered a new one to be shipped to me. He then installed it a few days later. He said there was nothing wrong with the original fan once he removed it, but I haven't had any rattling noises since the new one was installed. I was skeptical that this oven would be any good since we had these problems right from the start, but I've been happy with it's production. One other comment: it seems to cook things much quicker than recipes call for - so I've learned to minimize the time. Not sure if that's because it's so new or not?
