Not sure why so many people had problems with wiring. I thought the instruction was very clear. Yes, if you do not have a neutral wire, then get other ones which accepts single pole. What I found from researching is if a timer switch allows the white neutral wire connection, there is no requirement of minimum wattage to make it work, otherwise, a minimum of 40 watts are required. So, if you want to use it on one or two CFL, you need this. This also can be used for motors, I think. I use this for my one 15 watt patio CFL, so I need this type. The single pole likely will not work.
Wish this can be hooked up for 3 way. I ended up have to buy the more expensive Honeywell for my 3 way.
Programming is rather straight-forward and easy to do.

works perfectly
Installation is not for the faint of heart:
1) No alternative wiring directions provided
2) Does not state that neutral must be connected.
3) Connection hardware too small to fit the larger gauge wiring that is in older homes
4) Too broad thus crowding out the other switches in a three gang box
However:
Information can be found online, once connected it is worth every penny. programming is flexible enough to meet most needs, override mechanism need no explanation to others. once installed woks flawlessly.

Know your home wiring
Box does not state that this timer will not work with Single Pole (one "hot" wire leading into the switch and one "neutral" wire leaving the switch) wiring which is very common in homes. Further, doesn't work with 3-way wiring where there are two switches
This timer only works if you have 3 wire system, which is line, load, and neutral.
Would recommend using a timer made by Aube - Honeywell (model TI032) if you have a single pole or 3-way system.

Just a note
Do not buy this timer (15086 or 15071) if you have an older house with a loop system. A "loop system" does not have an actual neutral wire and the switch will malfunction. If you have one hot wire coming in, and another wire going out to feed the light fixture and no other wires in or behind the switch box you have a loop system.
If you install per instructions with a loop system your light fixture will simply flash on and off as if it is a car's directional. This can be corrected by running two additional wires for a neutral wire, but is no longer a DIY project.
There are o indication or instructions stating this with the product.

Good switch overall, not for a beginner
I installed this switch to control my outside lights. This is not a project I would suggest for an electrical novice. It took some trial and error to get the wiring right since the wiring in my house is pretty old and the load/neutral feeds are not always obvious. Also the unit is fairly deep and pretty wide and I had some trouble getting it and all the wires back into the box. It may be easier with newer construction and deeper electric boxes. Once installed, the switch works exactly as expected. Fairly straightforward to set the time and the on-off cycles. Have had it installed for about a month and so far so good. The override feature is a nice bonus, and I also like the unobtrusive aesthetics of the switch. It is certainly better than the older dial type in wall timers, and more accurate too.

Not Compatable with all home wiring....
I attempted to use this on a home 3-wire home system... blue/green/orange... couldn't get it to work properly. The timer powered up, but it would not turn the lights on. It only turned the lights on and off in a quick fashion. I did some web-searching for a troubleshooting answer, and found that this will not work in all home electric systems.

Great money saver
I use 1 the units to control the outside security lighting. Better than a manual "tabbed" timer. I use a 2md timer to control indoor lights to make it look like "I am home" with different cycles set everyday.

Love it
I bought this to automate turning the dinning room light on as I usually come in from work during the night or when traveling so it is a great peace of mind, also I wouldn't have the repetative task of turning the light on and off when I am home. Plus it save me money on my utility bill. Earth Friendly fuel wise...
