I needed to replace two shelves in a cheap bookshelf in a rush. These were the correct depth, easy to cut to width, and they look very nice. Saved time over milling my own even though I have the wood already.

2 Shelves From a Stair Tread
I bought this because I was looking for a short shelf material. I could make 2 shelves if I cut it, and it worked perfectly. Both shelves look great. Material is good quality.

I am completely satisfied with these stair treads. I ordered 13 and they came quickly and packed in two boxes. The quality was better than I expected. I stained them and applied seven coats of polyurethane sanding between all coats except the last one. They look great and now it’s time to install.

Rough surface
After stained the surface get rough and applying the poly and more rough again we have to sanded it and recoat it 8 more time if we know that cost too much time and problems we would buy the solid wood

Hi Vicky, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We're sorry to hear about the challenges you had when finishing these treads. Bear in mind that the top layers of these treads are solid wood, so they should stain and finish like the solid red oak treads you describe.

Engineered not solid but for the price it makes a stair retread cheap. They are solidly built and there is plenty of veneer to sand and work with several times if necessary over the years.

Thanks Jonathan. The top and bottom layers are 1/8 in. thick solid red oak "re-sawn" layers that can be sanded, stained, and finished like real wood....because they are real wood. These are not the paper-thin veneers made famous on assembled furniture. The engineered core, along with the solid oak top and bottom layers, produces a stable stair tread that resists warping, twisting, and checking. You also get even grain and color matching as well.
