Q:Hello, I want to ask for clarification from the manufacturer because I have just scanned the 11 pages of questions on Home Depots site. Are these treads solid 3 piece oak that would allow me to cut to design and then run a router along the cut edge?

A: Hi Ffuzy,
No, the engineered treads have a hardwood/laminated core, with a solid layer of red applied to the top and bottom. The nosing is solid red oak. Routing the edges of this tread may produce unwanted results since the engineered core would not be appearance-grade.

Q:Please clarify; are these solid red oak wood or glued together junk with red oak veneer? Your description states these solid red oak stair treads will match... and then later says something about them having 1/8 th inch veneer red oak. So which is it?

A: Hi WhyKnott,
Thanks for the great question! These treads are engineered treads.

A: Engineered wood simply means that it is not 100% solid wood without any kind of assembly done. From the picture, it appears to be "lumber core construction," meaning that the internal component is wood lumber. The facing boards are a thick red oak.

Answer This Question
A: Hi Sand27,
The treads are sanded in the factory, but we always recommend a final sanding before finishing with 220-grit sandpaper. A final wipe down with tack cloth is also recommended. If you have additional questions, we will reply as quickly as possible. Thank you!
