A twist of fate, and done!

Discovered the shower knob was completely seized up, watched a lot of YouTube videos where I found out about this invaluable tool. It made quick work of removing the very stubborn cartridge. I am very pleased that I discovered this tool!

Bought this to remove a stuck 1222 positemp valve. It works, but read the instructions. Important to turn the v Old valve to release the pressure. If yours is really stuck like my 20 year old one was, get two hardwood 24 inch x 1.5 inch by 3/4 pieces of scrap wood or two thicker hardwood dowels to add leverage to the pulling operation. The idea of pulling it straight out, as they tell you to do, will not work if it is really stuck. Position one piece of wood behind each handle and use leverage to work the cartridge loose. You can reverse the direction of the two dowels or wood pieces to evenly move it out. Much easier and no risk of pulling out shoulder.

This should be sold as a single use tool. It is made of soft aluminum and was destroyed after one use. The threads striped and the end twisted and chewed up.

Sometimes cartridges just need a little more pressure to break free. Yanking directly on the cartridge with all your might is fun and will work in most cases, but often enough you'll need this thing to put that steady pressure between the cartridge and the housing to get it to break free.

It worked! So happy this inexpensive tool lived up to its expectations! Danco pulled out a very old rusty moen cartridge that was over 10 years old! FYI if you need a moen replacement, call the MOEN company first and see if you have a warranty on file... might just save yourself some $$$ in cartridge replacement.

it was easier as expected.it was tight moderate not to hard not too soft .when i started to fix my shower i had a problem ,,the screw was too short so it looks like if does not fit on the cartridge very well so i was thinking take it back to the home depot..what i did was pull up the cartridge like when you open the shower then it fit perfectly

Mine cartridge puller worked a treat on a very unused and jammed cartridge.

Instructions were easy to follow and although the cartridge was difficult to remove, I finally got it! This didn't slip off or break the cartridge, which would cause expensive repairs. If you have to replace a cartridge, spend the money and get this tool! At least you'll have it again in a few years when you're changing another one.

I had busted up the free plastic piece that came with the new cartridge trying to get the upstairs shower out (after successfully using it to replace the basement shower cartridge). I figured I'd give this a try and it worked amazing! I think my scenario is atypical since my cartridge was falling apart in the sleeve, it took me about 10 minutes and some WD-40 but I finally got it out! The only downside is that I wish the handles were longer, I was hurting my hands twisting and pulling as the handles only got to my middle fingers. But I imagine it's a lot easier if your cartridge comes out in one piece. I would definitely recommend to anyone having problems to give this a try. Even after my fight with the cartridge, the puller didn't strip or show much wear afterwards.

Old cartridge was not giving up a without a fight. The removal tool that came with the new cartridge would probably work great in a <1yr old setup, but not if the cartridge has been in service for several years. Grab this tool from the same aisle as the cartridge and you will curse less during install.

This one didn't work. Pulled the stem out without the cartridge. Recommend Pasco 7040 Stem and Cartridge Puller instead: Two tools in one, has an end to pull out a stuck/broken cartridge. My plumber didn't know about it, saved the cost of tearing out a wall.

This Danco Moen stem puller might not work on your shower cartridge, as it might not reach the base for you to try and twist your stem loose for removal. It should work on faucet stems. Made of aluminum, it might be too weak for tough jobs. Buy the real Moen puller from Depot sku# 135222 for stuck stems like mine.

My in-laws had an emergency failure of the shower cartridge and I couldn't get the 55 year old cartridge out. This puller worked like a charm. Totally intuitive to use as well. I had the old cartridge out in less than 30 seconds. Totally worth the money. The pickup lockers are great too. No waiting in line. At this Home Depot, the lockers are outside, so could have even picked it up after hours.

the front alignment tabs are a tad short.

It worked better than perfect.

Even with this device it still took me 30 minutes to remove the old cartridge. Not because of the tool. The rubber on the old cartridge folded over which if I didn't have this tool I would still be trying to remove the old cartridge.

Job was done...........

Husband struggled trying to remove an old cartridge for a tub shower faucet with much effort and no success. Bought this tool and it was removed in less than 5 minutes. Well worth the money even though it will probably only be a one use item

Worked as advertised

Poor design. The inside diameter of the puller does not fit over the cartridge. Result is that the puller ends up pushing on the part that needs to slide out. Had to modify to use.

Excellent tool and great price! Nothing more to say but well worth the time to go to Home Depot and get this item.
