Easy installation at storm time.
Roughly twice the price of aluminum panels.
Does not protect window from impact. If window breaks, water will enter home.
More than double the work of installing aluminum. Same time drilling and installing anchors. Plus time spent cutting, attaching clips and sealing.
Just make sure you know what you're buying. There's a lot of marketing behind this product.

After the last hurricane in in 2017 I realized the importance of hurricane shutters for my house. The regular metal panel shutters were not something I considered because I have a huge 2 story house. It would be an impossible task to put those up without backbreaking labor and help from others when a hurricane is approaching. However, accordion and impact windows were so costly that I decided to do further research.
Enter hurricane fabric. I was initially skeptical and thought that this had to be a gimmick. After all, how can "fabric" protect me in S. FL from a cat 5 hurricane? However, after doing extensive research I realized this was in fact the real deal. They are Miami Dade approved (the strictest hurricane code in the US) and were a proven product. I also noticed that the company gave extensive info for anyone who wants to DYI. Not being handy myself I ordered enough materials to do just 1 window first in case I couldn't cut it. However, after a bit of a learning curve I realized that indeed this was actually not too hard. I ordered enough material for my entire house and I couldn't be happier with the results! As a bonus the cost actually came out cheaper then cheap metal panel shutters since I did the labor myself. This is a phenomenal product that's even more impressive because of the cost savings if you can DIY. Here are the pro's and cons of the product:
Pros
-Hands down the strongest hurricane protection you can buy. According to tests, every other type of hurricane protection (accordions, impact windows, metal panel shutters) will eventually break after multiple hits. This thing can take an unlimited amount of blunt force impact from objects during a hurricane.
-Extremely lightweight and easy to put up. If you compare it to metal panel shutters there is no comparison. This blows the panel shutters out of the water in every category. I'm not a very big guy and I was still able to easily put up all the shutters myself without help from anyone else.
-Very affordable: This shutter is cheaper then even chea metal panel shutters if you DYI and a bit more expensive then metal panel shutters if you pay an installer. Therefore, if you have someone else do the install, its the second cheapest shutter type on the market after metal panels.
-Its translucent: Although not see through like impact windows; this allows light to filter through when put up. So unlike metal panel and accordions where your house is completely devoid of all natural light; this shutter allows light to filter through making the hurricane/post hurricane experience much more pleasant.
-The company that manufactures this has come out with a "storm bar" that you can put under the panel as an optional extra. This completely takes care of the issue of "your windows breaking from impact." Therefore, if you do the optional storm bars (like I did) your windows have zero chance of shattering.
Cons
-Even though its very easy to put up compared to metal panel shutters; accordions are still much easier and less time consuming to put up compared to this.
-This shutter has no side benefit of "protection from people" during/after hurricane. All the metal shutter types/impact windows makes it difficult or almost impossible in the case of impact windows for anyone to break into your home after a storm. This offers zero protection in that category.
-Your windows can shatter from a decent impact if you do not install the storm bars as well. The upside though is that even if a window completely shatters; the fabric still offers complete protection from hurricane force winds.
I think impact windows offers the best all around protection if you don't care about the cost. However, if you factor in cost then this product is probably the #2 best product on the market. And for those people that prioritize price and hurricane wind protection over all other factors (like myself) this product is the best thing on the market.

This product is overpriced. When you open the package you'll feel like you've been cheated. Sort of like paying $10 for a bottle of water after a hurricane.

This product is a DIY hurricane shutter project: fiber has to be cut and the cut edges heat sealed, brackets are easily installed, attachment bolts are screwed into walls. The instructions are good and there are videos that help. I give it 5 stars because the shutter is custom made by the homeowner. In my case, I fit the fiber cloth shutter to the front entrance where a roll-down or accordion shutter were not practical.

The fabric panels are fantastic. The only issue I had at all was a note from the manufacturer that requires that you cut the fabric with a hot knife or the warranty is voided. I used a soldering iron with an exacto blade knife. The installation is not difficult but it is time consuming.

Very easy to use and install. My only complaint was that there was no mention of needing a special tool to use when cutting the material that seals the cuts. Did not find that out until the fabric was delivered. Be aware of that.
