Husband fixed the mechanism problem and I love it. He does, too -- I need to replace the VERY expensive one-piece name brand with the Champion 4 (an upgrade from mine) so I can have my bathroom back!

I have tow of these toilets to date. They have never clogged and work perfectly well.

Only one flush needed, never clogs
The slow-close seat is an added bonus that spoils us. Also, the Right Height is wonderful for all ages, and we have converted several friends to install Champion 4's with this comfortable height for sitting.

Inspect under the rim before buying!
A Home Depot (HD) employee, a manager and myself opened five boxed American Standard Toilets and found all of them had NO glazing around the rim and about a half inch down the side of the bowl! So be sure to check the rim for glazing before you buy. I returned mine. If you can't see under the rim you can still check it by running your fingers under the rim. If it is smooth then it is glazed. If it feels rough then it is not glazed and will stain easily and be hard to clean. Also, if not glazed then little cracks are exposed between the rim and the bowl - very unsanitary.
The Champion 4 is a great toilet if you can find a good one. I could not. What a shame American Standard has such poor quality control. HD has the Kohler Cimarron. It is a very good non-clogging alternative. It has a fast powerful flush because the tank system supports a large siphon jet. The siphon jet is a 1.25 inches diameter opening opposite the trap-way entrance at the bottom of the bowl. It is not as large as the Champ 4 siphon jet but much larger than most other toilet jets.

Great value for the #1 rated toilet on consumer reports
I bought 2 of these for replacements. I am no plumber but have installed about 7 toilets in previous homes with no issues. The first Champion went in easily. Installed the second one and couldn't believe it when I found a leak between the tank and bowl. It was small and would show up about 2 hours after flushing. The area immediately around the tank bolts was dry. I pulled the tank and replaced the gasket with a Fluidmaster from Home Depot which solved the problem.

Years of service and no clogs!
Not the cheapest toilet out there, but well worth the investment. This toilet has made my plunger obsolete!

I like the comfort height, that 2+ inches makes a lot of difference in us older people.
The flush is outstanding along with the comfort height.

Not quite
All the waste in the water flushes very well, but if any waste gets on the side on bowl outside of the water there is not enough water coming through the rim to clean it when you flush. I would like to see that improved.

" The Right Choice For Us "
My Father has Parkinson's because the toilet is higher, he has less difficulty getting on and off of the toilet. We have also found the toilet to flush more efficiently, and without any clogs. We plan on purchasing another one for our master bath in the future.

A high quality product at a good price makes for value
This toilet replaces an oval that originally came with my new house. The increased height aids in comfort. The 1.6 gallon flush is more than adequate, and the non-slamming seat and lid are an added plus. While it is pitched as no tools required, we had difficulty tightning the tank to the bowl so that we did not have minor leakage. A good wrench did the trick.

good concept poor quality
This toilet hauls the freight like no other. However, the quality of the parts in the flush mechanism is poor. Worked with American Standard for a month trying their fixes, finding parts back ordered, frustrated with long phone waits. Home Depot made it right so all is good now, but I would try another brand next time.

So happy with the 1st I bought 2 more :)
I was so happy with the first one, I replaced the other 2 toilets in my house with Champion 4s, for a total of three of these magnificent thrones. And I couldn't be happier. I have not had the leak between the bowl and tank that others speak of. (maybe those were over tightened) Nor have I had problems with any of the works. Very easy installation. The latest one came with a slow close seat and lid. I don't know if thats standard issue now, but its a nice feature! Have not ever had to plunge any of my Champian 4s, and suspect that I never will.

NIGHTMARE!!!!
We ended up taking this toilet back! Our contractor tried everything to fix the leak. We looked at other reviews as to what other people complained about and tried all of their tricks. Didn't work, still leaked. Also the lid will not stay up.
DO NOT BUY THIS TOILET!!!

Great No-Clog Toilet at an Unbeatable Price
I installed one of these several years ago in my guest bath and it completely eliminated the embarassing clogs I would get with the original builder grade toilet when guests vistied. This purchase is to upgrade my other baths too.

Great flush, poor seat!!
Had this unit for a little over a year. Flushes great and have never had to use plunger, but that darn seat. When I purchased, reviewers had commented on the cheap seat, and now I have to agree. The seat will no longer stay up, so it is a challenge to avoid being guillotined if you are a guy. Also, the seat is so flimsy, it squirms if you try to sit on the closed lid. Oh yea, and the seat bolt covers keep popping open. Again, it works great, but the mfr cut the quality on the seat. Too bad.

YOU CAN'T GO WRONG WITH THIS ONE
YOU CAN THROW AWAY THE PLUNGER. THIS THING WILL FLUSH A VOLKSWAGEN. IT TOOK ME TWICE AS LONG TO REMOVE THE OLD TOILET THAN TO INSTALL THE NEW ONE. CRUMMY SEAT FOR SUCH A CADILLAC OF A TOILET. PLAN ON BUYING A GOOD SEAT ALONG WITH THE TOILET.

reviews helped alot!!
i purchased 2 of these after reading the very helpfull reviews and tips. yes the seat is a bit cheap. so i purchased one i liked in the same aisle at the store. also the leaking issue i can understand but i used a socket wrench to tighten the bolts that hold the tank to the bowl and have had no problems, no leaks, and it really sped up the installation(the tool it comes with is worthless). And as far as the flush power is concerned, just played with the adjustment to get the water level to the best setting to provide the optimal flush. these were all tips from other reviewers, thanks!!!!

I smile every time I use it!
I seriously love this toilet! Fantastic flushing action, not too loud, economical, and looks good too!. I was thinking about replacing my old toilet for years but just avoided it. Finally, after a guest overflowed the old toilet, I knew I couldn't put it off any more. I debated between a couple of brands and finally followed the advice of a popular consumer magazine and went with the Champion 4. I have not had a single problem in the year I have owned this toilet and I really do smile a bit every time I flush it. Best purchase of 2011. Just a note, I went with the Right Height and elongated bowl and both worked out well. Excellent buy!

Will buy again
My wife wanted a comfort height toilet. Usually, I buy the cheapest but splurged a bit for her. I believe it will flush 28 golfballs! The only issue I had was the "No tools required". The flange bolts were awful to put in. I should have switched them out with "tools required" bolts but I had already set the toilet on the wax ring. The tank bolts were difficult to tighten as well with the little handles.

Great toilet
I bought this toilet (after quite a bit of research) to replace a toilet that clogged constantly. I have had it for 4 months and it can flush anything. As far as the leaking from the tank that some people experience... I had this happen to me as well, everytime I flushed about an ounce of water would leak out where the tank attaches to the bottom segment. I fixed it by tightening each side a little at a time while leaning most of my body weight on the tank to compact it down as much as possible. I only used the provided tools and I fixed it within 30 mins after installing. You really have to tighten those suckers down and it is a little awkward while leaning on it, but has been perfect since then.

flush power appears great but tank leaks
There appears to be a design flaw between the tank and bowl... Even after tightening the tank bolts/nuts for a china to china touch there is a slight leak... It wasnt there immediately after finishing but within 2hrs.
There is a design flaw in the toilet, the ring needs more fluff to allow for an easier compression... Had to use a deepwell socket to tighten the bolts... Taking it apart tomorrow to see what the deal is.

good but it can be made better
The Good
- strong plus, 2 months so far and have no clog yet, I am keeping my finger cross.
- this has a new flap valve and no leak so far.
The Bad.
- not as easy to install as other toilets. the tool provide was not strong enought to tighten the tank to the toilet, I had to use a socket wrench to finish the job.
-the tank must be remove to replace the flapper valve.
