I bought this at Home Depot about four years ago to replace an older water saving toilet that saved water,, but had a terrible flush. At more than four years here is what I found.
It was easy to install. No difficulties and no leaks; and this is the first time I ever installed a toilet.
Now the time I have owned the toilet it still continues to flush great. Within the first year the handle developed a problem, but I was still able to flush the toilet. The handle and pieces part of the flush assembly are plastic, cheap. From what I understand, the one-piece toilets from AS have metal parts. Why skim;p on quality for a near $300 toilet? From what I understand, this can be used on the two-piece toilets, so that is what I will be doing when I repair this soon.
Other than that. I have had years of exceptional use from this toilet. It is easy to clean and looks nice.

Great for those who always had to keep the plunger close!
A well made product except for the flush handle which broke. HD replaced it with no problem.
I love how it works!

great flush...home depot doesn't stock parts
This toilet will flush anything. You will no longer have to flush twice when you buy this. After owning 2 of these for approximately 3 years they started leaking internally causing phantom flushes. I went to the home depot where I purchased the toilet only to find out that they don't stock parts for the junk they sell. American Standard has the parts backordered for over a month so my only option is amazon.

Great product and value.
As advertised these are the best toilets on the maarket. I purchased 2 to replace the 2 I had which plugged way too often. My Champion 4s don't hesitate even for an instant. I also had a surprise bonus and my Champion 4s came with an upgraded slo-close toilet seats which Champion sells separately for $30 each.

Love these toilets!
Why did we wait to switch the toilets out? We thought if the tanks don't carry as much water, then they won't be as effective. Wrong. These toilets are powerful, and only need one flush to do the job. Effortless handle, taller height makes it easier to sit on, and easy shut lids which is great with the kids. It has a four inch flush valve, which makes it so powerful. We are anticipating our water bill to go down since it is using half the water per flush, and half the amount of flushes needed sometimes. Watch video on youtube of this toilet flushing golf balls and other things if you need convincing to spend the extra money on these. Buy online, because they didn't have them in the store, ship to store free. We got them on sale for $186/each.

Great flushing ability-CHEAP plastic seat and lid
I usually don't write reviews on products I purchase, but felt it necessary to comment on our new Champion 4 toilet. We have only had the toilet two weeks and are VERY satisfied with its flushing ability since that is why we purchased a new one. However, the seat and lid are constructed of CHEAP, thin plastic. Every time you sit down on the seat, it slides off the edge of the bowl either to one side or the other. I realize closed toilet lids are not made for seating, but I sit there in the mornings when I am putting my shoes on and I feel like the lid is going to cave in! Mind you I do not consider myself a large size person, 140 lbs; I always sat on my older toilet and never experienced this problem. I would definitely recommend this brand/model for the flushing, but be prepared to purchase a new, sturdier seat to go with it.

Best Toilet I've ever had!
After seeing the demo video's and all the hype about this toilet, I was worried it wouldn't live up to the expectations I had for it. But so far it has! We installed it a several days ago, and it works great. It's hand's down the best toilet we've ever had in any house or apartment we've lived in. It won't disappoint!
Only issue we had with installing, was the tank to the base, it got tight before the tank made contact with the base. We had to use a socket wrench to keep tightening, and was worried that we would break the tank if we tightened to much. We went slow, and their is still a little gap before we wimped out and didn't go any further, but the tank is stable, and there are no leaks. Might be able to go tighter to get rid of the gap, but we chickened out at this point, and didn't want to buy another one if we broke it.
Unless you have a longer water feed line already, you'll probably need one for this install. We had to move from a 12" to a 16", and the new one is just long enough to make it. The longer line is needed due to the higher height of the base, combined with the design that makes the tank sit a bit higher than other toilets.

toilets broke after four months
Had two Champion 4 installed in a new house. After four months both toilets started to leak, so had to have a plumber replace the inside. Repair cost was over $246.00.
Going to file a warranty claim.

Don't want to watch
The tank rocks, the toilet seat is cheap and uncomfortable, and worst of all, you have to hold the handle down while it flushes or it doesn't complete the flush. I have more important things to do then watch my toilet flush!
Installation couldn't be easier, if I hadn't needed to replace the 30 yo shutoff valve, it wouldn't have taken more then 15 minutes. I've had no leak issues as other reviews describe. The flush power for minimal water is incredible. In fact, after installing this unit, I went to the local THD and bought/installed the 1.28 gal version upstairs, which also works great. The height/shape are also big upgrades from the old small/short unit I replaced.
As others have noted, the supplied seat is pretty flimsy, but works OK. Also, the unit I received seemed to have some casting irregularities under the bowl; nothing major or functional, just some bumps where it should be smooth, But its out of sight, so not a big deal.

PIECE OF JUNK
I have already had to replace the plastic arm twice in less than a year because the plastic keeps breaking. After every few flushes the lid had to be removed and the plastic screw holding the handle in place has to be screwed back in. You can't buy replacement parts the the store so you have to wait until American Standard ships it to you so the toilet is useless while waiting. Because of the flushing system (which I do like) the arm needs to made of something other than plastic!!!! Even though this toilet is brand new I'm going to replace it and not with an American Standard.

Challenge accepted
We needed to do a remodel to include an ADA compliant toilet. We chose this particular brand because of the claim “Flushes a bucket of golf balls in a single flush.” We have had bad luck with our old toilet clogging with just paper, so this seemed like the perfect solution. Well, this with the low flow feature, the challenge was accepted and the toilet failed. The plunger still sits at the ready for what our family has to offer. We still have to employ the flush-as-you-go method to prevent clogging.

leaks that just won't stop
everything else about this toilet was fine, EXCEPT it just keeps leaking. And when it comes to toilets, leaks are deal breakers. Installed THREE of these within two months, all by a professional plumber. EVERY ONE of these toilets had the same leak. Very poor design apparently leads to leaks from the tank-to-bowl connection. Tried replacing gaskets on all of them but they continued to leak. It's apparently impossible, on these THREE toilets at any rate, to achieve a watertight connection. All three of these leakers have been returned. I won't be buying American Standard again.

No stop ups
I orignally bought 2 for my residence home after getting tired up untopping the toilets. They work so great, that now I have been replacing the toilets in my rental properties with them. When I get a tenant call about a stopped up toilet, I just replace the toilet with this and never hear from them again.

Bought two of these in the last 2 years and they have been problem free. Now leaks, flushes great and the right height makes it so much easier as we got older.

Flushes anything!
We purchased this toilet after listening to the advertisement that "it will flush a bucket of golf balls". I thought.... this is the toilet for us. We really didn't expect to flush the golf balls but do have a person in our household that uses an excessive amount of toilet paper and the previous toilets would get clogged on a daily basis. I was also preparing for future years... I like the right height :-)

Excellent performance, easy to clean.
I replaced a toilet with a Champion 4 right height elongated model in "bone" in November of 2009, 32 months ago. It never clogs. Few modern (1.6gl) toilets can do as well. It's quiet, refills quickly, is reliable for the most part, and cleans easily. The "right-height" is a much more comfortable seat height than the more common low ones. The 10-year warranty is incredible because you only need to contact the manufacturer for any parts. I had to replace the trip lever (flimsy plastic design) and the flush valve seal over the last year. They were sent in the mail quickly and were extremely easy to replace. I've since discovered that an all-metal trip lever 738772-0020A that's intended for a different Champion model is sturdier and costs about $15 on Amazon.

Best flushing mechanism bar none...
I'm a plumber and have purchased two Champion toilets. The first was converted from the older Champion to the Champion 4 mechanism. The second was purchased as a Champion 4 from HD. You cannot clog this toilet! Unlike air assisted toilets from other manufacturers, this toilet is very, very quiet. The flushing mechanism, combined with the industry's largest trap flush hard and fast without waking anyone up. However, there are 3 downsides to this toilet. First, all American Standard toilets have 2 problems: There is blue mold release that needs to be wiped off from the bottom of the tank before you bolt it on, or your tank will sweat and the blue will drip on your tile/floor and is impossible to get out. Second, bolting up the tank is tricky. American Standard toilets have a gasket that will not crush down to make the tank completely solid and wobble free. After about 6 months, you can tighten the bolts a little more and cinch it up better. However, be careful not to overtighten and end up with cracked porcelein. The last downside is the fact that this is a proprietary flushing mechanism, so parts aren't readily available at your local HD. I believe they have the main silicone gasket in stock, and the only other replacement part you'd need is a generic o-ring at the top. But, if something more major broke, you'll have to order parts from somewhere else. Most toilets use generic flapper designs and can easily be completely replaced. Not this one, but the flushing mechanism is what makes this toilet so special. I bet you can flush an entire dirty diaper with this toilet and not clog it! Also, the porcelein casting is high quality. Quality just oozes from this product. My only complaint about the quality is that the standard Champion 4 has a rather cheap flush handle. Other styles of this toilet have a better made flush handle.

GREAT TOILET GREAT PRICE
Having rehabbed over 100 houses I have found the perfect toilet @ a very reasonable price. No one can say it doesn't flush quickly or quietly. It comes with a slow close toilet seat and a wax ring that is actually the right thickness. You can tell quality by the thought put into the internal workings of the tank & provided extra thick bolts ( unlike many others ) to secure the toilet to the floor and provided tools that actually work. The only bath I would not use it in would be a child's because of the seat height. I would tell anyone to replace the water supply line at the same time, they only cost $5- $6 each.

easy install and great preformance
I rehab for a living and found this toilet really easy to install and at a great price for a toilet with this many bells and whistles. Quiet flushing, quick fill and a nice flat usable top to the tank, the ever clean surface and simple directions. It came with a taller wax ring with a collar but I prefer to use one with a bit taller of a collar.

Easy to Install
This is the 5th toilet I have installed in this house in 40 years. By far it was the easiest. I was skeptical when the box said No Tools required. The box did not lie. Could do everything with equipment supplied and for once the hold down bolt covers were big enought that you don't have to cut off part of the bold to have the cap fit.
