We bought two of these. Our downstairs bath is a little, small, room. This toilet does take up some room, be on the lookout for that. Other than that, these toilets seem to work quite well. The flush is quick, and complete. Very different from the toilets we had before, as they were water-users. I love how the toilet seat (enclosed in our purchase) closes silently and softly. The "right-height" was the right choice for us, and I personally never want to use a toilet that is low-down to the ground again. We had these professionally installed by plumbers, they did not seem to have any problem.

This is the second toilet I purchased. The first one worked so well, we decided to replace our other toilet. We have had the other one for a couple of years and have never experienced a clog. Fantastic product, and the height is perfect!

This is a product that works and never clogs on us. It's easy to install yourself. I've got two in my house; one installed about a year after the first. The problem is the flapper. The older one we bought a year and a half ago and I heard it filling up by itself. There was a slow leak from the tank to the bowl. I'd lose about a tank of water in two days. The other Champion 4 we have I caught leaking from the tank to the bowl at 2:30 this morning when I heard it re-filling. American Standard will send you a new flapper and it's fairly easy to install, but they have a flapper material problem that they need to fix. If you are having this problem, ask them to send you a few flappers so you can repair it when it fails again in a few months.

I bought this toilet because of the powerful flush and quiet-close seat. This toilet does not use a flapper valve, but has a special 4" instant open valve that I think is the secret to the powerful flush. The fill cycle is very quiet and quick. Installation was easy, with no leaks and the toilet quality was excellent. I am going to replace another toilet with this model soon.

Easy installation and good flush, but mine also leaked. The seat was also uncomfortable and had a crack on the hinge. Brought it back for exchange and thought it was good but noticed a small leak between tank and bowl next day. Appears to be a slight dent inside the porcelain tank at the hole for the bolt and the washer does not seat and seal completely. Also noticed that the underside of the rim is not glazed as mentioned by another reviewer. Returned it and bought another brand. If they had a leak free tank, this would be close to 5 star. Don't know why some don't mention leak from other reviews so it could be a quality control issue.

Easy to install......

This product fullfill our needs very well. It is the right height,was very easy to install, (the easiest I ever installed). Looks great also.

For years we'd had to use the plumber's helper a couple of times per week with our premium brand toilet. To stave off divorce I purchased a Champion 4 about a year ago. Our plumber's helper is now dusty. Installation was a breeze. I was very impressed by the designer's evident consideration of each step in the installation process. Recently I noticed a drip drip sound coming from the tank. I sent a message to American Standard Support. They mailed me an 'O' ring and gasket repair kit for free, which fixed the problem.

This AMERICAN STANDARD CHAMPION is the best AND FASTEST toilet that we have ever seen! WE REALLY LOVE IT!!!

easy to install

It went in easily, and everything looked good. A couple hours later I noticed water on the floor. There was a very small leak where the tank meets the bowl. So empty the tank, put in new screws and washers to replace the ones that came with, put it back together. All fine for an hour, then water on the floor. It doesn't matter how well it flushes or how little water it uses if you can't stop the leaks. If I can't figure out why it's leaking, it will have to go back.

You have to clean it 1-2 times a week. That is NOT good for the price. The one I replaced you would clear it once every 2 weeks.

We bought this toilet in February to replace an old one, and I had our plumber come out to make sure it was installed correctly. All was fine for four months. Last week we noticed it leaking on one side. Had the plumber come back out this morning, and he found that the flush valve gasket was bad. Replacement parts = $19.00, labor = $100.00. I called American Standard to ask for reimbursement of some part of the cost under their warranty. They told me that I should have called them first before letting the plumber replace the part. So .. that means I would have had to pay the plumber twice. I'm disappointed - hoping it was just a fluke that this part failed so quickly after purchase.

Flushes in one flush and cleans the bowl well. Great height for ease in standing. My Mother's toilet is similar but a different brand and makes a gurgling noise at the end of the flush. This one does not make that ugly sound. Glad we changed out our old toilet with this one!

For my convenience I had a plumber pick up the toilet at the store and also install. It flushes quick with a minimum of noise. No adjustments had to be made to the flushing system, worked fine right of the shipping carton. I am very satisified with its performance. Actual highth of bowl rim from floor is 16 7/8 inches. The supplied slow closeing seat will then measure 18 inches from the floor. Both seat and lid have the slow closeing feature. Warning about installation. The distance from fixtures base to the finished wall base board is only about 3/4 of a inch. It could be more depending wheather your rough in deminision is a little more than the standard of 12 inches. If you have hot water base board heat elements or electrical heating elements running behind the toilet along the baseboard, you will have to make some serious adjustments. I had to make some surgical adjustments to my hot water baseboard grill work and heat radiating fins. Another note, the supplied plastic deepsocket wrenches supplied to tighten the bolts holding the tank to the bowl will only half do the job. Eventhough you can tighten the nuts enough to have the tank setting square on the bowl, it will wobble from front to back if you lean back on the seat back when in use. I had to use a 1/2 inch deep socket with a 3/4 ratchet to tighten the tank bolts enough so that the tank would not move front to back when leaned on during use. However don't over tighten which could crack the tank...............

My son and I installed in this toilet with only the tools supplied with the toilet and did it in less than 20 minutes. It works great, the easiest toilet I have ever installed. Love the toilet seat and the flushing power, no clogs, quiet. Love the height of the toilet. Very happy that after quick installation there were no leaks.

Installation was simple, although I needed a new longer water supply line since the toilet is taller than the normal one I replaced. Toilet flushes completely everytime.

Happy with this toilet's design, right height, and performance! No more plunger. Feels like sitting on a throne. No need to flush all the way. Had this toilet installed by my brother who is no plumber, and it took him about 40 minutes to accomplish the task. As mentioned by some reviewers, the water leakage was there, and let my brother know right away to remedy the problem. In the meantime I took the mop and placed it next to the toilet so that the mop would absorb the water leaking. After about three days, my brother told me he was going to come to my house to fix the toilet. I informed him the water leakage was no longer there, that the toilet probably needed a few days to settled in. Best toilet ever!

Flush sounds better than another good brand that my Mother has. Doesn't make that ugly gurgling sound at the end of the flush. Flushes waste completely. It is a ONE FLUSH WONDER!

With a toilet it's all about the flush. This one does what it was made for. The good looks and comfortable height are just a great bonus.

While I had my plumber install the toilet, he had no problem. It is a great value, saves on water, and because it is 1-1/2 inches higher than normal toilets, more comfortable.

Installation was easy, just followed the directions -- no leaks. I think this might be a first for me. I agree with the other reviewers who've said that the handle is a little cheap and flimsy, but overall a good product which handles the #2 job very well.

Installed by plumber as part of a powder room redo. Old toilet clogged several times a week (Wife and teenage daughters love the TP) and also embarrasing to pull out the plunger during an event. Wanted the best flusher and that's what I got. This baby can flush a LOT of stuff! Wife wanted designer toilet but I put my foot down and said Champion 4 in white. It's a toilet not a showpiece! No leaks but installed by plumber. Family likes the 'right-height". Did replace the plastic seat and plastic chrome flush handle. Both looked and felt cheap. Flush handle does take a little more force to flush ... not much though. I have not noticed any more noise. Refill time seems fine. Plan on replacing other two toilets with Champion 4 in the near future. Working perfectly for three months. Did I mention I have not touched the plunger!

After tedious installation and requiring real tools, I used this toilet first time and had to flush TWICE... I was going to buy two of these to install in both baths, however, I'm glad i didn't. Poor quality for American Standard.

Toilet flushes well. t has never clogged since install in Nov 2010. Original seat was very uncomfortable, it was quickly replaced. The tank top easily slides backward when you lean backward. It is never in place. The top needs to have a deeper edge/rim or larger top to stay in place, this is annoying. I would buy another toilet with the same trapway and flush sizes, but would look at the way the tank top fits. At least the seat can be replaced.

I love this powerful flush! I had an apartment, and the toilet would clog constantly. We have had this toilet for almost six months, and I have yet to use the plunger. Despite the power, it is still a quiet flush.

This toilet lives up to the advertising! I've never had a problem with clogging and it will probably be a very rare instance if it ever even happens. If you have young children, then you will definitely appreciate having this maintenance free toilet. I also really like the more traditional styling of the toilet. The Right Height is so much easier to use than the shorter versions. The one thing that was disappointing was that the toilet came with a cheap plastic handle. When I tried to find a nicer metal one, I discovered that you can not buy just any handle. It has to be one made specifically for this model. Fortunately, there is a metal one that looks decent. Not the style I would have chosen, but it's not terrible looking. Besides that small quibble, which can be easily remedied, this toilet is a product that I recommend over and over again to all my friends who are looking for a toilet.

Performance is as advertised. Ann excellant product.

We like the height and the power. It is a solid heavy unit,but easy to install.
