A:  Yes, I was able to use one kit to rekey four locks so I could use the same key.

A:  You will probably need to rekey all 5 of your locks, but once you have done four you will be able to do the fifth in a couple minutes. Try the key from the kit in all your locks, though. You may have a match for one of them.

Also, if you've never re-keyed a lock like this before, i recommend not only reading the directions included in the kit, but also watching a couple of video demonstrations on you-tube. A:  I dont think it will only on the brand it states it will re key.

A:  It has at least 2 to 3 pins to do the job for both. As long as you know how to re-pin a lock you should have no problems.

A:  Yeah that should work, you'll just have to figure out the pin combination. The pin combination is provided for the keys in the package.

A:  It would work if there are sufficient pins in the new kit to match your existing lock configuration. You would need to disassemble the new locks using the kit instructions (save the pins from the new locks, you may need them). Once disassembled, put your existing key in the core and insert pins that fill the holes so that they are flush with the top of the barrel. If you can achieve this configuration with either the colored pins from the kit and/or the pins you saved from the new locks, your existing key will work. I was going to try this method myself on a lock in a different house using all the left over pins I had from the kit and the locks I re-keyed. Haven't got around to it yet.

A:  The Dexter has a Schlage keyway which should work with the kit. If the new kit keys go into your existing lock, the kit will work.

A:  Potentially yes. You will have to ensure that the codes on each kit match. Then the keys and the instructions and pin color will match for both sets. If you have two sets that do not have the same code then you will have to make sure you use the same size pins instead of color code when rekeying the second 5 locks. As long as the order of the pins and size are the same in each tumbler you could rekey an unlimited number of locks. This kit merely changes the pins and the key included matches the new pins. The current key to your house opens a lot of other people's houses too. The keys are not unique they just vary.

A:  You might have to buy more. That would only work if the key used one of each pin. There's a good chance it'll use multiple of one color and not use one of the colors at all so you won't have enough pins. Might need 3 or 4 kits.

A:  The Schlage "C" keyway, plug diameter, and pin spacing are the determining factors. If the keys in the kit will enter the cylinder and the spacing from cut-to-cut on the keys are the same, then it should work. If the diameter of the cylinder plugs or the key spacing cut-to-cut is different, the included pins may be too long or too short by a few thousandths of an inch. Residential lockset keyways cross over to many brands. Hillman produces low-end locks in several different keyways for folks that don't want to pay premium prices for a higher quality lockset. For example: If one lock of a set of 6 locks that all use the same key breaks, you can replace it with a lock compatible to the keyway that you already have. That way you don't end up with several different keys to carry.
