Q:Hello, do you sanded or on sanded grout for this tile? Please let me know. Thank you

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Jules, You could use either sanded or unsanded grout for our Crag Square Multi Grey. The location of your installation will help dictate what type of grout you should use. This mosaic should have 1/8” grout joints, and the space between each mosaic piece should be approximately 1/8” as well. When grout joints are going to be 1/8”, we encourage using unsanded grout on the wall and sanded grout on the floor. Home Depot always recommends Custom Building Products installation materials. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

Q:what grout color should i get for these

A:  Hi backsplash12, Home Depot always recommends Custom Building Products installation materials. Two great options for our Crag TriSquare Sunset Slate are #165 Delorean Gray or #52 Tobacco. Being as coordinating is a matter of personal preference, it is best to decide what color you feel matches best. Home Depot stores offer dried grout samples, so it is best that you take this tile to your local store and compare it to these samples in the flooring department. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

A:  Hello jules, Yes natural stone should always be sealed. I hope this helps. Cheers, Chris

A:  With this particular product the tile, the choice to seal is up to you. It is however recommended to seal the grout.

      by|May 6, 2023

A:  Hi Jules, Sealing our Crag Square Multi Grey isn’t required, but we would recommend doing so. Depending on the location, you may want to consider it strongly; areas that would fall into this criterion would be bathroom walls or shower walls. We recommend using a sealer that is intended for natural stone https://thd.co/2r96wdP and testing it on scrap prior to sealing the whole installation. Sealing can take place before or after grouting. Sealing before grouting may help with grout removal, but extra, unwanted grout should still be cleaned off of the tile while it is wet. You will want to seal the grout when you are done to prolong its life as well. If you opt not to seal the natural stone, routine maintenance will help preserve the life of this mosaic. We would encourage fast cleanup of spills, especially if you choose to not seal this, just to prevent the stone from absorbing the stain. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

A:  Any non-tinted clear tile sealer that is water based will work. Your choice would be the level of gloss I have included a photo of the sealer we used and a picture of what our tile looks like about a year later.

A:  Hi Gayle, We would recommend looking into a sealer that is intended to be used with natural stone products. Home Depot always recommends Custom Building Products, and their Aqua Mix Enrich ‘N’ Seal Penetrating Sealer would fall into this category https://thd.co/2r96wdP. We would recommend testing the sealer on scrap prior to sealing the whole installation. Sealing can take place before or after grouting. Sealing before grouting may help with grout removal, but extra, unwanted grout should still be cleaned off of the tile while it is wet. You will want to seal the grout when you are done to prolong its life as well. Routine maintenance can also help prolong the life of your tile. A:  In extensive heat you would need to use mortar and not grout, pretty sure this is not fire rated. If these tiles are outside the fire box, they should hold up pretty well - inside the firebox, not so good.

A:  Hi KC, Yes, our Crag Linear Sunset Slate would be great as a fireplace surround! As long as this tile isn’t in direct contact with the flames, they won’t be affected by indirect heat. A small amount of indirect heat from the fire won’t cause damages to the tile. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

A:  I can't answer that. I used it in my bath/shower and it is really nice and easy to work with. I can say that the individual tiles seem tight like they are made from the harder slate and not the flakier pieces. If they did crack over time, the broken tiles would be easy to replace. Keep some 12x12s for spare and the grout too. Just make sure you prep the fireplace surround properly and it should be fire safe, but I am not an expert. I really like the look of the rustic slate against the vanilla trim.

                    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Cathy, Since our Crag Square Multi Grey comes from natural stone, this mosaic has a wide range of tones and shades that are present. A few examples of the tones and shades that you might receive are ash gray, charcoal, pink, rust and tan. If you would like to determine if these tiles are right for you, we offer samples! Please be aware that samples come adhered to 6”x6” sample cards which offer a color and texture sample, not a look at the whole pattern. To be able to see the whole pattern, we recommend ordering one sheet. Please note that variation in color, shade and texture are inherent characteristics of glazed tile. The pattern, shape, dye lot (color) and size of the actual tile received may vary. Home Depot offers a 90-day return policy on all unused items returned in the full quantity they were sold (in this situation, an each). If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

                      Answer This Question

A:  Hi porky, Our Crag Quad Sunset Slate can be used for shower installations. This tile has a C.O.F. (Coefficient of Friction) rating of 0.8 which makes this compliant with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) guidelines for slip resistance. All C.O.F. means is how slip resistant a tile floor is; the higher the value, the more slip resistant the tile is. It also has a DCOF (Dynamic Coefficient of Friction) rating of 0.58. To be considered slip resistant for DCOF, a tile must meet or exceed the required rating of 0.42. We also recommend that you seal the tile, especially if this will be used in a floor installation. If you seal the tile, it could help prolong the life of the tile. Regular maintenance can also help prolong the life of your installation. Like any material, if staining contaminants are left for a suitable amount of time, it could stain. Sealing the tile will add another layer of protection to the surface of the tile. Home Depot always recommends Custom Building Products installation materials, and their Aqua Mix Sealer’s Choice Gold https://thd.co/2r9ght4 is a great option for the ceramic tile. Since sealer can change the look of your tile, we recommend following all of the directions on the packaging exactly for the best results. We always recommend sealing the grout to help with cleanup and to prolong the life of the grout. If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!

A:  Hi Lola, Yes, our Crag Spiral Multi Sunset has an unglazed, matte finish which would make it perfect for a shower floor! If the background construction is waterproofed properly, this tile would be a great choice for a shower floor. A:  Hi Kathy, This tile is made from natural stone and has a rough texture, so for some it may not be ideal under bare feet. Comfort is ultimately a matter of personal preference, so you need to decide for yourself if this product is something that you can use in your home. We would encourage ordering this tile and judging for yourself how you feel about walking in bare feet on this tile. This will allow you to test out this tile “risk-free” prior to placing a large order. Home Depot offers a 90-day return policy on all unused items returned in the full quantity they were sold (in this situation, an each). If you have any further questions, please give us a call at (800)-963-7652. Hope this helps!
